bought a cheap 89gt for the motor/tranny, so i can smog my race car

swapped everything over to the race car, new plugs and a cap and wire set i had that was almost new

put the wires back on according the a regualr firing order for a 5.0, 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, and it ran like utter dog shit

change the firing order after fucking with it for a few days, and bam, it runs

anyone ever run into this before [Confused]

im guessing it has a $99 summit hydraulic flat tappet cam in it from a 70's era 302 [Roll Eyes]

Or it's a non-HO engine with an HO badge. I've seen this alot.

Yup, most have E7's. Does it have stock HO valve covers, or do they look like 93 cobra ones (stamped steel)? Stamped steel ones came on Non-HO versions.
Good find on the wiring!

BTW, do you still have the parts car? I need some fuel tank stuff (mounting bolts, lines to/from the pump, retaining ring, bracket for the fuel filter...well, basically everything minus the tank!)

SO 5.0s have the weird firing order, and do NOT have the E7 heads.
my SO has an HO upper intake, they're practically the same, just the HO flows better.
the firing order of the SO is the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
most everything from the HO can be swapped over to the SO, including headers, intake, injectors, etc.
though I really don't see why somebody would swap a HO for a SO [Confused]

maybe if it was from a truck it'd have e7s, but on anything else they aren't. I have a SO in my bird

A non HO flat tappet cam will fit an HO roller block. You could have someone who wanted to put a cheap cam in their roller moter and changed it over.

Hey, maybe the guy the smashed into the front fender to 'move the car over' swapped in a short block from a '76 granada? I mean, that was one well maintained unit you parted out there, bud!

Now quit horsing around, get it smogged, and put the REAL motor in there!
