i'm building up my 2001gt and i was curious if anyone here has 11:1 compression and is able to get away with pump gas after a good tune?

One of my buddies runs 10.7/1 compression with his 351. He runs on 91 pump gas and goes low 11's

mustanggt5091 from this board

has a 11.25:1 357w that is damn fast using 91 pump gas

does it matter that i have a 4.6 2v and has has a pushrod engine?

It all depends on the tune. If you want to run that high of compression, you NEED to get it tuned properly. Sportbikes run all day on 91 octane fuel and 12:1 compression, but they're tuned correctly (there's other design factors at work there too). Cam profile also has a great deal to do with how much compression you can run as well.

If its an HCI built block you'll be fine. [Big Grin]

Camara90 was running an 11:1 347 on pump gas if I'm not mistaken.

I'd get the motor put together and just run it. If it pings than you know the motor requires higher than 91 with the higher level of compression. You can either run better gas at this point or tune the car with a chip to remove some timing. Yes this motor will function differently than the old pushrod style as the 2 and 4 valve cars run different timing values. Also of note if you do go with running this compression ratio it will be good for NOS but won't ever work with a blower depending on your future goals I'd look at that as well

close Eric, really close, 11.4:1 compression without any problems on 91 octane, camara90 had 10.5:1 [patriot] Just keep in mind you will have to stay on top of your maitainence, IE spark plugs, cap-n-rotor, wires, etc...
