How can I get the locking lug off the car without the key? Am I fucked?

my grandpa's shop uses one of those air-powered hammers. it ruins the lock nut(obviously), but it works. you just put the bit (looks like the end of a screwdriver) somewhere you can dig into it and turn it with the hammer. a tire shop should be able to do it for you.

Or, take a 1/2" drive 12 point socket that is close to the same diameter of the lug nut and hammer it on. Use a ratchet and it'll come right off. Make sure it's a Craftsman, so if it breaks..you can take it back. [Wink] Pretty simple (and you don't risk messing the wheel up from the air tools).

I went out there and it looks like it grabs on the outer edge instead of the inner? There is nothing on the inner to grab. [Frown]

Dave;just get a socket thats close to the size and hammer it on.Even if it's round,It will grab it tight enough to remove, may even split the socket.

I was able to use this thing to get one off of mine:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2377644645&category=20773

Its called a GatorGrip, but there are cheap knockoff ones all over the place. I'm pretty sure they got one at your local hardware store for cheap, I got mine as a stocking stuffer a couple years back [Razz]

In summit: Part # SUM-900460

I follow you now. It took a while, but I got it. I took it over to big O today, and told them they didnt give me my key back last time I was in (about a month ago). Ill bring it back later this week, and they will take care of it. He said They will give me new ones too. I hope he doesnt plan on charging me [Smile] Thankks for all the help guys, I think that tool would be a handy thing to have around. I might invest in it. -Dave
