I own an 87 LX which is lowered with Steeda sport springs (1/2 coil cut in the front). I have some AFS Cobra Rs (17x8 fronts & 17x9 rears) with 245/45 fronts and 275/40 rears. The front tires rub the inside fenders. I have only about a 1 finger gap betweent the tire and fender. How do I roll the front fenders to make them wider? Also, is it true that the 88 and up fox bodies have wider front fenders for better clearance?

u put 225s in the front i got teh same prob bald ass 245s dont rub ne more lol

but u need smalled tires to get rd of rub

First find out exactly where its rubbing, If it needs to be rolled, cut the are every couple of inches with tin snips or whatever you have and beat it back with a mallet!

I have 245/45-17's in front. The car is lowered with H&R Race springs and I'd be lucky to get a finger in between the tire and fender.

I used to rub a little on the lip but was able to just "massage" the inside lip with a hammer. All I really had to do was flatten that lip from the inside with the hammer just a little. Just be careful at the top or peak of the wheel well as there is a screw holding on the inner fender lining. It points towards the sheetmetal and if you flatten this point too much you can push that screw tip in to the sheetmetal causing a high spot on the fender.

I've heard that there were slight differences in the fenders or fender linings of 91-93 Mustangs since the 5.0's went to the 16" Ponies those years. The steering rack turn radius is also less on those years to keep the wheels from rubbing on the control arm when at full lock on a U-turn. I solved that problem by adding an extra steering rack spacer to each side of the rack.

To roll the front fenders you have to remove your front splash guards and you wont be able to use them anymore just so you know.

This is a picture of where my front tires used to rub on the fenders.


This is all the stuff that I took out.


Since you can't reuse the splash guards this is how it will look when you are done.


Couldn't get any pics at the actual lip after I rolled it but it look real good.

When cutting the lip with tin snips cut every half inch or so. This will make the lip fold better. Its good to cut a nice slice in the paint with a razor blade before you start cutting. This leaves a clean place for the paint to break off after you start hammering the lips up.

You do the backs the same way but they are easier since you don't have to remove anything like the splash guards.

Easiest way to eliminate "tire rub" is to buy wheels that are the proper offset.

the wheels are the proper offset. it's just my car is too low.

They may fit, but if they were the perfect offset you should have no problems. You don't have real wide tires on them. Just roll your fenders.

my car isn't really that low. i've seen alot of folks with cars lower than mine with no rub. also, i had some steeda wheels with 255/40/17 tires front/rear with no rubbing problems. offset is definetely an issue. maybe i should adjust my camber more negative that way the top of the tires fit snuggly within the fenders. not...
