What exactly is a fuseable link? I'm starting to think its not what I think it is. Its not a regular fuse, correct? Are they rated in amps like normal fuses?

Negative> its not a regular fuse> from the ones that I have replaced> I had to buy them from the dealer. They are specific for your car only> not like a one fits all type thing.

Fuseable links are not car specific. You can buy them in different ratings, just like a regular fuse. But instead of being an element that has contact points on 2 sides that burns out in the middle when its power rating is exceeded, a fuseable link is a piece of wire with a connection on one end that you use to connect between your power source and whatever it is you're fusing. When the power going through the link is too much for it, the wire in the link melts and the connection is terminated.

This also means that a quick easy way to test if the link is toast is give them a little tug, if one streaches out like gumby, thats the bad link.

Thanks for the info.... so is the fuseable link one or more of the following:
A) the heatshrink tubing part of the wire a few inches away from the ring terminal
B) the rubber "box" a few inches away from the ring terminal
C) the rubber "box" attached to the ring terminal
Finally- Anyone know how many amps '89 5.O's fuseable link is rated at?
