rent a tie rod puller tool from autozone or something. its free, you just have to put a deposit down

i learned the hard way trying to pry it off with a hammer

Hit that son-of-a b$$$h (a-arm) with a small sledge-or a big ball peen; that should free it up and the tie-rod should pop right out [patriot] .

Why are you pulling the tie rod? I did mine fine w/o pulling them.

If hitting it violently does not work go buy a tie rod fork. I have a tie rod puller and it did not work for shit. The fork works wonders. Just slide it in and smack it with a hammer. Never fails.
