just need to know what I would need to switch from a 302 to a 351. like what parts would I be able to take off my 302 and put in 351 and what I would have to buy.

the 302 and 351 have many interchangeble parts. Any 302 head will fit on a 351. Intakes are different though. The 351 is wider so a wider lower intake is neaded. Cam is different to I beleive. You will also need special headers for clearence in a mustang as well as oil pan. I believe you can by a kit from FRPP or BBK for the swap. Hood clearence is another issue because the 351 is taller. I have a 21/2 cowl that clears no problem. Also the fan must be changed. I have a black magic electric fan that keeps my 351 cool. Good luck.

thanks, i now know what to save up for now

Posted by st5150 (Member # 51) on :

The cams are the same. That price list I gave you is OLD. Don't stick any 302 heads or intakes on that 351 unless you want to make 302 HP out of a 351w.

indymustang.stangnet.com is probably where ill get the long block from. they have a special on the 357 complete long block with all the forged goodies and other performance internal shit for around $1300 hopefully I can get the money saved up buy around spring break. they say it will produce around 425 hp thats a nice amount of horsies

Thanks,

302 and 289 heads will not fit on a 351 unless you have them drilled for 1/2 head bolts.

The deck heights are different too. 8.2 Versus 9.2 and or 9.5 depending on which 351W.

Oil pans are different

Dist. different

Headers/exhaust manifolds different.

Modifications for front accessories necessary due to 1 inch taller deck height.

Other than that you are oK

Clevelands are entirely different motors.

I don't have the money right now. But I will in a couple of months. I want to have the motor in by spring break. When you put the roush rims on what are you going to do with the cobras?

Posted by cobraman_1994 (Member # 467) on :

What kind of modification will I have to do to the accessories up front?

Posted by PunkINa5.SLOW (Member # 10) on :

Modify the brackets to raise them up.

Thanks a lot for all of the help everyone. Holy fuck I cant wait to do this.

What do you guys think of the 393 stroker from indymustang.stangnet.com , my blown (up) lx does need a new engine, and I want a 393 stroker, what route should I take, this seems like a best deal and most reliable. Also does anyone know anybody that builds engines. All of your help will be greatle appreciated in project reincarnation of FORDPNY.

indy mustang does have good prices, but try to get Jack's(the 50ho) attention. He'll probably be the one building my 351. Ask him. If he can't do it then definatly go with indy mustang's motor. It is one of the best deals on the net.

Posted by PunkINa5.SLOW (Member # 10) on :

I build motors too.

I have alot of referrences.

Hey David,
I'm putting drag radials on those cobra rims...Anyway The only 351 that Jack knows of is Karl's that's being built by R.E.M. I hope you don't expect him to build you one. If I were you I would baby your motor untill you save enough to purchace an assembled shortblock. Talk about easy from there, anybody can finish the job from there and if you doubt yourself than just call me. I 've already helped on a 351 install. Jack does have an accesory list but is lacking in the expierence dept. so don't suggest him to everybody. Now if your looking to build from scratch I have plenty of references and experience to get you going. Oh, are you still interested in that Pro-M meter?

Posted by PunkINa5.SLOW (Member # 10) on :

When I said referrences I should say that I have actually installed over 20 motors most recommended from the machine shop I deal with.

I have also built over 20 small block fords and can provide 10 phone numbers and or people of referrence.

Matter of fact there are two folks on here right now that I am building motors for.

I agree, that place sounds shady to me. You're better off going with more proven shops like Kuntz, Keith Craft, Houston Performance, ect.

Posted by PunkINa5.SLOW (Member # 10) on :

I agree Sawson but MAN has Keith Craft been screwing with TED and I lately.

Posted by cobraman_1994 (Member # 467) on :

Did anyone look at the 357 racing longblock with 425 hp on indy mustang? Does that sound right or not? You guys know what sounds shady better then I do.
Erik- I am defintly going to get a finished block. I don't really want to mess with the internals too much and risk fucking the motor up. And it will take less time so I wont have to worry about forgeting any of the little internal parts. Also, with all of the questions everyone on here has answered on here I feel pretty confident on getting this to go through. But you will be the first to know if I run into any probs. And yes, I'm still interested in the mass air. I'll have the money in a week or so
Thanks
David

david-

i don't know shit about stangs...so nevermind with me helping...better ask somebody else.... [BS flag] Sorry, wish I could help.

Jack

Posted by cobraman_1994 (Member # 467) on :

What gave you that idea? I was just trying to get all of the information before I started to go through with this shit. You and Erik are the two people I was going to ask to help when I was going to start this little project. So I do need your help. But not just yet. The march to april range is when I want to start. I'll call tommorrow around 3:00. If thats not a good time, leave a message tommorrow.

Posted by the50ho (Member # 73) on :

I didn't get the idea from you david...don't worry....I wanted to clear something up...I didn't build the 251, it's being built buy that sorry excuse of a machine shop R.E.M. I fucking hate that place. Anyway, I have had a lot of experience on other peoples stangs in the last two months. Trust me...I can help...many other people probably disagree, but I can...I have done my own god damn car a few times, and many other now. There are many people on this site who's cars I have worked on...feel free to ask anybody for references. Anyway, I will be happy to help...that's when Karl's 351 should be going in to..March-april time..so I will be in the swing of things ya know. Anyway...just give me a call bro...532-8753.

Jack

Jack,
You seem a little bitter about my comment. Why don't you just bring it up with me. I don't believe any of my statements were too far off, do you??? Oh, and thanks for slacking on my parts and prices...

Posted by the50ho (Member # 73) on :

Erik-

Don't take things I say so personally. Actually, maybe you read what I wrote wrong. I'm not angry..k? As for you parts....I called and never heard back from you. Tim doesn't know what to do. They keep telling me that Jerry Bitler is the one to ask. You and I know how he is. I also told you the clutch was a factory replacement. If you want me to pick it up for you, as I said earlier, I would be happy to. Sorry about your brakes...I have tried ever fucking day, and I get the fucking run around...you know how it is. It a whole lot of [BS flag] . Anyway...I need to get your cherry picker back to you. I have calss tonight but can bring it back tomorrow for sure. Anyway, just let me know.

Jack

could someone look at the 357 racing block and tell me if it sounds like a solid motor or if its shit. it seems like a good price, but not if the company is shady.
thanks
David

oh shit i forgot this: www.indymustang.stangnet.com its the "357 racing longblock"

Posted by st5150 (Member # 51) on :

Its a pretty mild 351w. Even they claim it'll only run mid 12's. If you want to run mid 12's, just put some thought into a solid heads/intake/cam combo for your stock short block.

Dan- How has Keith Craft been shady?

Jack
what the fuck is on your cell phone! I don't speak spanish. I called and got a message in spanish and didnt know what to do Ill try later and mabey it will be in english

Posted by Yellow94GT (Member # 431) on :

Why don't you take all that $$$$ that your going to spend on a 351 swap and build a 302??? You can get more power from a 306 with heads and intake than you can from the 357.....and it would cost less money. Just my .02 cents

Posted by PunkINa5.SLOW (Member # 10) on :

They sent Ted a CUSTOM cam and it is just a reboxed TFS stage 1.

They also sent him the heads didnt say what plugs to use, didnt advice of smog port plugs needed and didnt advice of reducers needed.

The heads have a machined recess that looks like ARP washer would take up the slack for (7/16 to 1/2 inch) and act as the washers do when using 7/16 on TFS heads but they actually required the spacers.

They didnt send. Just a shady deal they didnt seem to know much about their product on the phone nor the install and reboxing a TFS Stage 1 cam and calling it custom??

Come on now.

I have heard GOOD things from them tho.

so i guess what you are saying is that I should find another company?

Posted by PunkINa5.SLOW (Member # 10) on :

I would just be careful.

Posted by cobraman_1994 (Member # 467) on :

hmmmm....... any other suggestions of where to go? or should I take my chances. the motor seems pretty solid. well, ive got untill march to decide.

Posted by T-TopTerror (Member # 480) on :

David,
Just buy a reputable shortblock. Next- buy the combo you really want(heads/intake/etc.). F the bullsh*t, just build what your heart and experienced pro's suggest. Horsepower is nothin' but money. Get as many suggestions as possible.

Posted by cobraman_1994 (Member # 467) on :

thats exactly what i have been doing for the past couple of weeks what ever combo i decide to run with, i know ill be happy. i cant fucking wait

Posted by the50ho (Member # 73) on :

I totally agree with erik. You may find out that a 351 is not what you want. It may be...but get what you want...either way you go you are going to spend a lot of money...and it might as well be on what you really want. How is your car doing anyway...I saw you the other day, but I was late for class, so I didn't stop to say hi.

Jack
