I phuckin floated a lifter about 5-6 months ago and have been changing the oil in this phukin thing about every 3-4 weeks- viscosity increases, lifter floats. If I change the oil the lifter will operate normally for around 1000 miles.

Phuk this shit...

So naturally I want roller lifters-ah shit, now I've gotta change the cam-oh damn, now I gotta mass air it- motherfucker, while I'm in there might as well install roller-rockers. See where I'm goin w/this?????

Any suggestions? If it were your truck, what would u do???????????

if you've blown a lifter why not address the problem?

I take it you've picked up a knock? At the very least I'd pull the valve covers to inspect. You never know what the problem is for sure until you do.

W/o the benefit of a good shop manual, it appears I've gotta pull the upper intake to remove the passenger-side valve cover . Fuckin GT-40 intake . Anyway I figure I'll do that and then crank, I mean torque, the fulcrum bolts to see if that helps.

I like turbofans more .

I limped to a shop owned by a friend-of-a-friend; knockin all the way.

When I got there he told me it was detonation. Other "mechanics" told me it was lifter knock. He pulled the dipstick; Mobil 1 with 1300 miles on it was burnt, black. He told me it may be a cam bearing, oil pump, but it was too loud for lifter knock. In other words I've gotta engine w/50,000 miles on it and it's worthless.

I gotta 2nd opinion; he told me, "what fool told you the engine's detonating?" (whoops).

Anyway

Official diagnosis: collapsed lifter
Cost: nothing, compared to bent rotating things

He wants $500 to put in a set of lifters (labor only); is that a fair price?

Talk 2 me
