i've heard the rear ends arent the best. I havent gotten a chance to upgrade to a 9". I'm not so worried about my 8" third member, more like my stock axles..

Has anyone here had any bad luck on the old 8" rear ends?? The third member is build for 400 hp with the ribbed case, but how about the axles? Were going up again next week, so i will try 4k launch.. [Razz]

I never had problems with my 8" but I wasn't trying to do 5k launches. The weak point on them are the 28 spline axles. From everything I read you dont want to run the 8" with drag radials or slicks although a lot of people do it. I upgraded to the 9" 31 spline before I put the DR's on since I didnt want to chance breaking anything.

If your thinking of getting a 9", you can get a good deal on the currie crate rear at Summit if you go to the store during hot august nights. I think they give 10% off. I got mine when they had the $100 summit bucks reward for purchase.

You might be able to find one in a junkyard, a little bit easier since your car is wider than the 64-66 body style.
