So if I race on both sides and make it to the finals against myself...I guess I have to decide if I want to win as a Chevy or a Ford. What if I forfeited on both sides? [Big Grin]

Motor on engine stand. Changing out oil pump shaft tonight and will check out the rod bearings to make sure I didn't mess anything up. If everything goes as planned, I'll be at the grudge night Saturday, June 4th. Got a couple races already setup...

I would PM Drew directly and discuss. Hes a very reasonable person. BTW, your car is awesome [patriot]
When is the race by the way? Need to make sure I can make it before i go asking. Drew got a little bent out of shape when I said that the fastest board had not been updated in about 9 months. He then updated it, leaving me out.

The turn out from Ca fords was very low, only about 3 cars out of many that said they would race. If you go back and look up the old posts after this event you will even see ca ford members that did race asking where all the ford guys were.
Not sure what you mean by hijacking the event, but the event was put on by Nor Cal LS1 who completely fronted the 5 grand to pay for the race, so really the event was their all along.

The year before last was a bigger turn out with the GM camp barely edging out the ford camp by 2 races.

was that 2 races ahead with the Brain get the win over the nitrous lt1 white camaro, dont remember his name

but i remember the controvery, just because the lt1 cant cut a good light on the fly, as chase is a rance and the mustang got the won lights

no more ranting [Big Grin] , i will try and make this years but dont know if i can compete for cafords, since my car will be a chevy powered chevy, not anything like the teamsolo's monstrosity [Eek!]

yep that was the year and that was THE race of the night. Isn't there a video of it floating around?

I'm not part of the planning this year, but it sounds like they got a better time to do it than last year which was during the day. They have a night time spot at sacto now.

you're entitled to do whatever you think is right. Nor cal LS1 is a club. They are registered as a non profit organization, have liability insurance they pay for, and they fronted the money. There is no reason for them not to want to make money for the club. I know they took almost every penny in the club's treasury and risked it to put on an event. Had the event failed the club would have lost all their funds that they saved up for club members that were made from dues and putting on autox events. It's not like the people in charge were pocketing the money themselves. It is not uncommon for a club to have an event to raise funds for the club. A year ago they had a dyno day and charged for it. The funds were donated to cytic fibrosis foundation.
If you yourself had a club and took out more than 5 grand to rent the track, medical crew, security, workers, etc, would you do it for free?
That's like telling the people running the ca fords show coming up they shouldn't charge because you think they are trying to turn a profit for themselves. Who's paying for the location, trophies, etc. Man-I'm never going to buy girlscout cookies because I know they make money on them. Maybe you should tell sacto not to charge either because they wanna make a profit too.
Like I said, You can do whatever you think is right. I just wanted to show you the other side. If you can afford to put on the event yourself, put in the time to organize it where no one has to pay (that way there's no accusations from others that you are trying to make a profit), then you should do it. You will have a tremendous showing, no doubt about that. And you will be doing a great thing for both ford and gm camps.
But if you can appreciate what clubs or organizations do to put on an event both time wise and moneywise, then hopefully you will go and represent ford and the next event.

it seemed like last years event was decent, it was just at a shitty time, and ford didnt show up big, but ford still cleaned up [Whoo Whooooo!]

Okay, I think I see where you are coming from. You are refering to the grudge TWO years ago, not last years. Last year was the year Nor cal had to pony up 5 grand to rent the track. Two years ago they just ran during the regular sacto races. It was pretty confusing and there was some work involved but I don't think any awards or prizes were given out.
Last year Nor cal put up 5 grand and rented the track privately ( no imports or other cars, just the racers involved) They also gave out trophies and cash prizes to the winners.
Liee i said, I am sure a free event would go over well. If you would take the time to work out the matches, record the times, coordinate with track officials and do it for free so no one paid more than the 45 bucks for normal racing, it might go over well.
But for a few bucks more than the $45 you'd normally pay, you could go to nor cals event, have everything organized, the track privately rented just for you so it's just gm vs ford race after race ( no other cars there), get fed a bbq lunch, and have a chance to win trophies and cash awards. Personally I'd pay the few extra bucks because I'd pay more than the amount they charge to normally run a grugde night and for food and drinks.

First of all.... are you aware of how much money it cost to rent out sacramento raceway? (over $5000) Did you know that besides money you also need insurance? (which as a non profit - we actually have) did you know we also handed out CASH MONEY, AND real nice trophies last year? .... if you dont want to race at our event thats FINE....... if you think its easy to put on such an event: PLEASE go ahead and try.

I came on here before ( a few months ago) and openly invited ALL of you guys to our event this year (sept 10th) and what happened? my thread got deleted.....

We are NOT making fun at the low turnout from you guys last year- that WAS an issue that was brought up- but were letting the past stay in the past!

were out there to HAVE FUN, not to play silly games with anyone....... again, if you guys wanna come out- feel free...... sept 10th.

thanks for making me aware over and over again how much it costs to put on the race LOL. It has been posted enough I think everybody knows. I also know I raced the Westcoast Fords race at Sac this year and it was 40.00 dollars to run the brackets. Post your details again maybe it will fly over here.

Posted by aslowdodge (Member # 854) on :

sorry to repost it, for some reason you just didn't seem to get it, so even if it gets reposted, it still won't fly with you so we'll stop.

To run an organized race with ford vs gm with cash payouts & trophies and bbq, and exclusive private rental of the track, I'd say you got a good deal for $40 bucks. I don't know how west coast fords could afford it, but they must have had connections to get a lower rate than Nor cal because at the price that nor cal is charging, there isn't that much profit. I'd say if your getting all that for less than nor cal, then I don't blame you for running that event over Nor cal. But compare apples to apples,if west coast fords didn't provide everything, than you can't say Nor cal is neccessarily overpriced.
Too bad, it looks like with your cars you could have made some $$ & won a trophy.

I think it will depend on what class you run.
BTW you will love meth on your boosted car.
It helped mine a lot with all the heat and crappy 91 octane gass

Is the NHRA rules going to be followed pertaining to safety gear if you run faster than 11.49???

Just curious how you guys pick the pairings also?
Is it done like a grudge race or do you try to line up cars with comparable ET's??

I would love to represent the Ford camp in my Lil 2 valve.

So I would be stroker with one power adder but what happens if I don't have the full interior anymore???

I think it will depend on what class you run.
BTW you will love meth on your boosted car.
It helped mine a lot with all the heat and crappy 91 octane gass

I hope there is a a good turn out for ca fords and the chevy camp. [patriot] I hope when they have the classes and et limits all figured out they will post them up on our site so we can figure out what exact class we will be runnin in.

aslowdodge did you have any before or after #s at the track or dyno? My motor is 9.8 to 1 with a pullied up vortech non intercooled, so I am hoping for some great results. [burnout]

I don't have any perfect data. On a dynojet I only got 580 something with 680 something torque. I had a feeling the rockers were improperly adjusted. I readjusted them and change cats to a little freer flowing ones.
On a dynapak on the tune I had It immediately detonated as soon as boost hit and I had 9 degrees of timing pulled. With methanol I went full timing ( actually went beyond) and detonation was gone. The dyno reading was approx 670/780. The meth allowed me to bring back all the timing which robbed power. Also the meth has higher octane and the water has a cooling effect.
On the 100 shot best pull of 3 ( in my sig) with no detonation whatsoever. Depending on your car you could easily add at least another 30 hp with the meth ( probably more). It's cooling and octane are a double plus.
I would run a 50/50 mix

or just run staright meth, works better, and the cost difference is minimal to 50/50

you could run straight, but you gain no extra power at all plus the straight meth is flamable whereas the 50/50 mix is supposedly not. My tank is mounted inside the car with me so that is an important point.

i woulod debate that, it makes more power with the meth and a proper tune

i have personnal experience running both ways, 100% meth ran better

i use meth [dance]

100% meth is not recomended. use a 50/50 mix. it actualy cools the mixture better. many years of scientific testing proved it......

Posted by aslowdodge (Member # 854) on :

all I can say id to try it both ways and decide for yourself. If the meth at 50/50 results in a higher octane than you need, why go straight? Kinda like running race gas in bone stock car. Very little benefit in comparison to the investment.

It isn't a octane thing it is a heat reduction thing. The 50/50 mix will give you 120+ anyhow but the cooling on the intake charge is much greater with 50/50 than 100%. Do a little research I did before I ever bought my boost cooler 1 1/2 years ago

thanks for the info guysjust ordered a snows stage two kit for efi mustangs, its on backorder for 1.5 weeks but should be ready for the ford vs. chevy race. [burnout]

Yup, my understanding is the water is doing most of the cooling and the meth is good for the octane boost. at 120 with a 50/50 mix, I can't see why you would need straight meth, esp if you give up some cooling effect of water.

With the mix you get a cooling effect and and octane raise. with straight you might raise octane, but if it's more than you need, why give up the cooling of the water.

I'm the guy that TheBrain (the other Brian) raced in the white LT1 with nitrous. Bad time in that cars life for me... only able to pull an 11.03 on the bottle.

Anyway, I ran a faster time down the track, then Brian's blue 5.0 vert, but he treed me by .6xx.

I had been redlighting all night and on the last race figured I had time to burn/wait. Turned out to bite me in the ass.

I never complained at all about the race, Brian (thebrain) won fair and square. This is my proof that faster cars can and do loose to slower cars. It comes down to driver, reaction time, consistancy, breaking, traction, etc.

As for the rest of the debates, I think Aslowdodge summed it up well.

We (www.norcal-ls1.com) are not just a message board, but a car club that acts like a family. We have gone through the long/tedious process of becoming a Non Profit Organization and obtaining insurance to put on events such as this. We all pay $20 a year dues and put on events and work them ourselves to add money to our Club's/Companies bank account so we can donate money to charities, put on events for our members and other car enthusiasts.

So, if you are interested in a mostly EFI Drag Race Venue in Northern California, please come on out to Sacramento Raceway Park on Sept 10th, 2005 for NORCAL SHOOTOUT 2005!!!

CA Fords Website link to NORCAL SHOOTOUT 2005!!!

Oh yeah, there are updated rules/class descriptions on this link. The previously posted rules/class descriptions in this thread were the originally proposed rules that have been changed to allow a closer match between the Fords and the GM's.

Is a back seat required? Just need to know if I need to reinstall it [Smile] .

Posted by WHYT LIE (Member # 5925) on :

I am trying to get everyone to have a full interior. However, it is common for the F-body guys to remove the rear seat back and leave the cushions. Still has a stock look to it as there is carpet, and actually provides more room for passengers and tires.

Basically we need either upholstry or carpet there. If you have carpet, then you're good. But you do need both front seats and carpet, interior panels, etc.

How does a Mustang look without a rear seat?

Okay, thanks. Mine is full interior and back seat area is carpeted.

John, looks clean enough for me. How much weight do you Mustang guys save by ditching the rear seat? 5-20 lbs?

Posted by John91coupe (Member # 18) on :

I think it's like 10-11 lbs of saving if the replacement material is not overly heavy. Some guys get carried away with replacement construction and end up putting almost as much back in as the seats weigh.

Will there be test n tune passes between rounds? My car doesn't fit into a class but wouldn't mind getting some runs in.

John91Coupe...if they do have a 'between rounds' lane open and for some reason you are not still in the thick of things....maybe we can punch one off.

Well from 6:00-8:00 is qualifications to find your dial in and test out the track.

Then we start Eliminations at 8:30 and will have a "loser" lane and grudge lane. No promise on amount of passes in those lanes though... we will pull from them while waiting between rounds.

Right on...I qualify for the 'loser' lane right from the start...I feel special [Big Grin]
