We were actually heading up to the track to help out with the races when we ran into problems of our own. After waiting through an hour and a half of traffic in various slow spots, we finally got off I-5 to take a few shortcuts. No sooner were we off the offramp does Brent's Camaro start shaking and shuddering. We pull over and look for any obvious signs of broken suspsension, nothing. So I toss him the keys to my Vette so I can check out what his car feels like.

I get the car back on the road (after forgetting where the hell reverse is) and figure within about 30 feet it's a bad axle bearing. But I look in the rear view mirror and can't see the Vette anywhere!! Finally he drives across the railroad tracks, but then he stops and gets out! My first thought... "Awww man, this can't be good". Over the walkie talkie a real quiet voice says, "Uhhhh, Dave, you better get back here." When I get there, I see the Vette sitting pretty slammed in the gravel on the side of the road. Turns out the rear spring broke before he could even get the car into second gear. He drove it just enough to get it off to the side of the road. Good driving...

So there we were, two hot rods, both disabled, sitting on the side of the road. We got quite a few curious stares. Sunday was spent swapping bearings in the Camaro. Runs like a champ now thankfully, and fortunately I already have the needed rear suspension components to fix the Vette. I've been planning to redo the car's entire suspension.

Anyway, long story. I just thought it was funny enough to have to hot rods break at the exact same time that I should share it. As far as the prize money, I talked to F8L Saturday and he said he was going to keep track of everybody's results. I'll get with the winners of each category and take care of it. Once again, I'm really sorry we couldn't show up. I hope evrybody had a great time. [Big Grin]

I was right there with you. After spending 3 hours in traffic, I tossed the serpentine belt on a 3-4 shift on the bottle and spent the next 3 hours trying to get a belt at autozone. Had to take a taxi and everything. [patriot]
