Taking my usual poll.
I believe Scott hits ~ 12.5 or so in his '90 red GT (for the 302 crowd)

unsure of the 281 crowd.

Anyone care to fill me in?

For the the 302s I would say Alex. Its a green notch. 11.8 with a high 113 mph on its best pass I believe, and a few 11.9s also.

Jon with the white ex-chp notch has the TEA stage 2's (or is it stage 1?), dinky TFS stage 1/E cam and the track heat intake... I heard he ran a 12.3@113 or so... I'm sure others will have more details on his setup.

Hey Scott 90GT, did i meet you at sac a few months ago? i have a crumby blue lx, i was a bit older than you, and just bought some slicks. i ran it once, then let my cousin drive it and he almost wiped out. does this ring a bell? if not just laugh it off.

season'd88- yep that rings a bell. It would be hard to forget that pass. Did you guys ever get a chance to bring the car out again.

Hey alright glad its you Scott. no i havent been back. did you see later that night i ran a 12.95 at 106 felt pretty good. AND I kept in in my lane

RoRo

With his NA 302 in a 72 Maverick. He is from Pittsburgh and the car is a 10.80 car on motor.

Yellow Maverick Grabber.

Good point.... if carbs are allowed, '67stang' ran a 11.9 with his solid roller 302.

As for the fastest NA 4.6's.... I think 9COBRA8's 12.9@106 is it.

I'll pay attention more at Sears next year, but I'm pretty sure I saw a bolt on '99 or '00 cobra running mid 12's last year.

Also, regarding the 302 I suppose I'd put an *asterisk* next to a 302 running in a maverick, pinto, VW, or miata ya know, but 10's is quick nonetheless, esp. NA.

So 11.9 is the watermark? noted

I only have to drop 8 seconds or so off my neck-snapping 19.1 pass earlier in the year...

Sawson may have more info but there used to be a ( I believe Bounty Hunter car) black 88-89 LX up at Sears about 3 years ago that was all motor EFI car ran 11.7s.

He also ran a 200 shot to the tune of 10.5s

C-4 etc etc.

Really really really really really clean black LX hatch

Heck 11.99 is nothing for a carbed NA 302. There are plenty of high-compression 289's and 302's running low 10's.

My '67 weighs 3280 with me and fuel, so in terms of weight, its on par with an LX hatch.
Best 60ft was a 1.62 on ET streets, best mph is 116.

'89 roller bottom end, no special parts other than main studs. 9.4:1 compression.

heads were World Sr. irons, out of the box.
intake is a vic jr. carb is a modified 750 DP
cam was a crane solid roller (238/246 ~.560" lift)

PunkINa5.SLOW- I really didn't know the bounty hunters. Met a few of them at a dyno day once and the rest is through the grape vine or what not.

67stang- What do those 10 second 289's consist of? They must rev to the moon right?

I think a big reason the EFI 302's don't run as fast as they should has to do with RPM. EFI guys love to put a 5500 RPM peak HP cam and intake on their 302. If they bump up where peak HP is made another 1000 RPM, and setup up a notch or two in gearing to make up for the "loss" of low end, we'll start seeing some more impressive EFI 302's. 3 inch stroke... no need for this magical 6K RPM shift limit all the 5.O guys choose.

1SLOW5.8- What was your 10.5:1 302's combo?

Typical 10 sec 289 is shifting at 7500-8000. Compression is 13:1 or so, crank is probably forged, blocks are usually half-filled. It's an old recipee, dating back to before the 302 was even introduced. Thus the neat thing is many guys do it with heavily ported stock iron 289 or 351 heads.

One of my favorite 10 sec, early stangs is Ron Fedemas 306...vic jr heads, runs high 10's N/A

my high compression motor is as follows
ported dart 2.02 and 1.70 valves , x cam, ran the 12.28's-12.40's with a victor jr intake and since then I've ditched that and put in a trickflow track heat. Not sure if I like that or not. Now the base of the motor is steel crank, rods and dished out forged 10.5 to 1 pistons. I had the motor built by gromm and did all the rest myself and with some buddies. I've got an griffin radiator with a black magic electric fan which is kicks ass. ditches the stock fan. Deleted the a/c however I still run powersteering. I'm in the mix of making this car handle. I found a 95 gt's rearend that I'm going to throw in either this weekend or next. It comes with 3.27's and a locker which I am in need of. Drum brakes suck! Thats mainly it besides griggs subframes. I have 3.73's in it right now as well as my 93 has 3.73 too. I'm either going to put on my buddies 96' cobra rims or some cobra R's, what do you think? And of course my bestfriend ET STREETS haha! peace, chris

anyone know about anyone running destroked 351W's? my buddy has a 351W that he wants to turn it into a high reveing motor. Damn those 351's are so tourqey.

are you faster than the 11.9 above?

My 94 5.0 is pretty fast but not that fast. What do you think my car would run, I was told by some people after tuning maybe 12's?
Heres the list
FMS GT40 heads, 1.8 FMS rocker arms
E303 cam, TrickFlow intake trackheat)
FMS equal length header,BBK hipe no cats
Flowmaster 2 chambers with turn downs
BBK 70mm Throttle body, Vortech 73mm mass air
Ram air with K&N,MSD ignition and 3.55 gears

where in the hell did you get FMS 1.8 rockers? also, what valve covers fit those?

Thats kind of a mis-matched combo. It should run 103-105 mph, which is good for mid to low 13's... but yeah, there is a chance it can sneak off a 12.9@106 if you work with what you have for a while.

Its been A while since I had or moded the car I think there 1.7 ratio roller rocker arms not sure, when I worked at Jones West Ford in Reno I saw them in the service area for almost A year and my friend said they were ordered but the guy never came so I thought I would help them out and move them off the shelf to my house along with my gt40 heads

st5150,
What do you think I could change without spending alot of money? And for the past couple of months my car has been tearing up belts left and right. So I noticed where the crank pully was when the car was on it was wobley what could of caused this besides having underdrive pullies? Also I know it doesnt help either by having the stock 19lb injectors, so will 24's be good enough

And about the valve covers I am not sure what kind they are but they are the taller ones cause my stock ones wouldnt fit and they are also chrome.

Is your harmonic balancer okay? Sounds like its focked.

As for what you can do for more power with out spending a lot of money, its hard to say...there probably isn't much you can do but improve the driving(launch) and tune it. Porting/replacing the heads or a 'wild' cam with an upgraded valve train wouldn't fall under "cheap".

I think your right it is focked! So which one would you recommend and who has it for A good price? So the GT40 heads are not that good huh? And as for tuning who should I goto Mustang Ranch? Thanks

As for the balancer, you can get the low down by asking the windsor forum of www.corral.net/forums . One brand is cheap chineese stuff, but I forget which.

The GT40 heads are great.... for their time... which is 30 years ago! Its just a kissing cousin of the old 351W heads, much like the stock GT E7 heads are kissing cousins to the old 289 hi-po heads. By todays standard, they're lacking "as cast" compared to Canfields, AFR's, Trick Flows, ect. As for tuning, scan the computer for codes, get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a timing light... then hit the track! That combo should make about 255ish RWHP, you probably will need 24 lbs injectors but I haven't crunched the numbers.
