First of all I must say this, the track prep on Friday nights is fucking AWESOME!!!!!!
I arrived at the track late (around 7:10pm)
Drove straight to tech then made my first run a few minutes later
First run was a new best E.T.
Launched @ 2500 slipping the clutch
1.994 60ft
5.353
8.169 @ 87.448 1/8th mile
10.601
12.661 @ 109.813
Bogged BAD off the line
Overall, not a bad run for bogging so bad and engine hot right off of the freeway
Second run:
Launched at 3000 slipping the clutch
1.963 60ft Felt like it bogged worse than the first run !!!!
5.370
8.194 @ 87.177 1/8th mile
10.629
12.69 @ 109.569
Now I am thinking that the track was well prepped so I am figured I would try to side-step the clutch next run
Third run:
Launched @ 4500 and just let the clutch go
1.779 60ft !!!!!
5.137
7.951 @ 87.401 1/8th mile !!! My first 7.xxx 1/8th !!!!
10.383
12.445 @ 109.622 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was fucking stoked after this run !!! The car launched so hard that both visor swung back, my cell phone flew out of it's holder on the dash, and the glovebox door flew open !!!!!
All 3 of these runs were hot lapped !!!
So after someone broke on the track, I let the car sit for an hour
The fourth run was as follows:
Launched @ 5000 and dumped the clutch
1.778 60ft (this dumping the clutch shit works !!!)
5.089
7.887 @ 87.826 1/8th mile
10.308
12.361 @ 110.142 !!!!!!
Can you believe it??? A 12.36 !!!!
To cut this story a bit short, I followed up with a 12.38 @ 110.252 w/1.791 60ft Dumping the clutch at 4500 (spun a bit with the 5000 launch)
and a 12.47 @ 109.976 w/1.798 60ft !!!!
I am still grinning ear to ear
All of this on worn Nitto Drag radials @ 16lbs !!!!

Thanks for reading
Brian

Brian,

Congrats on the new times!!! Those numbers are awesome.

Thats freak'n awsome!!!! This is with the heavy roll cage as well right? Reading your story makes me want to say F racing on the 20th and make it up one of these friday nights. I'm itching to see what a 5K dump feels like myself. Toss on some slicks, a better intake, maybe a 3 inch crank pulley and make the blower and nitrous guys look bad with some all motor 11 second slips on some measly 245 cfm heads!

Posted by TheBrain (Member # 35) on :

Yup, the rollbar is in and it added 80lbs to the car !!!!!! Race weight is now over 3600 lbs !!!!! Drop 300-400lbs from the car and 11's are within reach

The air was near perfect tonight. it wasn't just cool... it was COLD !!!
They had a 3-4 people going for their Comp licenses tonight, so the track was WELL PREPPED !!!

hey Brian good times !!! that thing is flyin!!! any more mods planned ?

Posted by TheBrain (Member # 35) on :

Thanks guys, I woke up this morning still jazzed !!!

Sawson, I am thinking about giving up on Wednesday and Grudge nights. Fridays are the least busy, best prepped, and there are rarely any rice. I would say that there were maybe 20 cars and 10 bikes last night. Like I said, I got there late and in 2 1/2 hours, got in 7 runs. The price for T&T is $37 and well worth the money. Grudge nights are $35 and you can rarely get lined up with the guy you want to race anyway.

Gabriel,
My next planned mods are.....
Driveshaft safety loop
Reinforce the rear control arm mounts
Lakewood bellhousing
Pad the rollbar, etc....
I need to address the safety shit first because as much as the car weighs and as hard as the car is launching, shit is going to start breaking.
After that, I am going to work on my suspension, rims and tires
I want to do a cheap 5 lug conversion (lincoln rotors and aftermarket axles)
Time for some Weld Prostars and ET streets or drags
Also want to get a tubular K-member to lighten the front end.

Brian

Holy Hotfoot, Batman! Great job, Bubba! I was finding that the Fri. night sessions were 50/50 as to whether or not you would get 4 runs or 14. Maybe w/ the end of the season coming it is slowing down. I assume you are still sans the front sway bar? Put in a torque arm and I bet you can drop some more off that 60ft! I am running out to Woodland today to hunt for 8inchers. Get it up and keep it up!

Jim,
Sway bar is still off the car.
A torque arm.... mmmmm I hadn't thought about using one of those. Looks like I am going to have to go talk to John Griggs again and see what kind of deal we can work out. Do you think a Torque arm and panhard bar would work well?
I was thinking about a set of Factory 5 uppers and lowers, and a set of M/T's

A torque arm + panhard makes for grZ

TEST

Posted by FasterDamnit (Member # 442) on :

Fourth try-
The TA + panhard will give you great launches plus good cornering, just costs a bit more that just aftermarket control arms. Also can be tough to fit the TA. Add skinnys and ET Streets and look out!

SSSWWWEEEETTTT! Alright man, good runs. I wish I had been there. I was gonna head down with some friends too. I didn't think anyone was gonna be there. Oh well. So, are friday nights going to be the new nights to go? It sure seems like there is less drag traffic. Anyway, great job, I can't wait until my car is running that fast. BTW, how do you like those Nittos? I used a set of BFG drag T/A's and when I launched and tried to dump the clutch, they just burned out. Are the Nitto's better?

Posted by TheBrain (Member # 35) on :

Eric,
The Nitto's spin too, Last night was just a fluke. The track was well prepped and I am pretty sure a person could have cut 1.9x 60fts on street tires

I have never used the BFG drag tires, so I can't really compare.

I wish you had been there last night too, I would like to have seen a video of the way the car was launching

7.8 1/8? 12.3 1/4? sick! sick! wo0T!
I see an 11 in your future. You still have those pinging problems and stuff like that?
Man, I would love to squeak out a 7.x 1/8 mile!

Posted by 90GT (Member # 3) on :

Excellent times. You really have those nittos working well.

Posted by TheBrain (Member # 35) on :

Joe, I am still having the pinging problems
However, a half bottle of Berryman's Octane boost cures the problem everytime

Last nights pass were made w/5 gallons of 91 octane and about a 1/3 bottle of Octane boost
No pinging, and best of all, NO BROKEN PARTS !!!

I will be there next Friday for Test and Tune.
I am going to order a set of slicks tomorrow and hope they show up in time

I want a N/A 11 now !!!

Brian

Posted by st5150 (Member # 51) on :

Slicks and a Performer EFI or Holley intake will get you there. Call and append your order ASAP

What size slicks did you get?

Posted by Camara90 (Member # 134) on :

YOU BASTARD! You got to go and I didnt!

j/P MAN THOSE ARE SOME FUCKING AWESOME TIMES!! Congrats on the new times. Damn I was going to head up there but my damn waterpump took a shit on me!! So I put a new one, deleted my AC, and added a race crank pulley so lets see if I can run as good of times ass you have.

None, I just balanced my check book and can't order the slicks until next Friday
Don't have the money right now and have to wait for my commission check (Since I don't/won't use credit cards)

Oh well, The weather is only going to get colder

If you don't hit an 11 on slicks this winter I'll eat my hood paint-chips.

btw, if you're rolling on 4-lugs, I have a set of ET streets 26x10.5" (8.5" actual) that I can lend to the cause. They're on convo-pros (drag rims).
maybe 50 passes on them, and st5150's attempts at jacking the sidewall notwithstanding!

edit: you may be required to run some 'ghetto' tricks like ram-air, no belt, etc. etc. sorry, but gotta do what you gotta do. Then again, pull a 1.5x 60', catch 2nd in mid-air, and you'll get there anyways probably.

Or you can borrow my tires for a pass or two on the 20th. I think you should take off those Nitto's since they have less tread left on them than stockers' ET streets

Posted by TheBrain (Member # 35) on :

Joe,
Thanks for the offer of borrowing your E.T. Streets !!! I would have to drive down and install them at your place to see if they even fit. My wheelwell lips aren't rolled and I am afraid that I would do more damage than Sawson did
Would they be available for this Friday's test and tune?
Let me know and I will drive down
Thanks again
Brian

sawson's got the ET drags. I'm sure they hook better. I'm in Fremont, sure you can have 'em for Friday, but sawsons doubtless will get you a better ET.
Ours are both almost exactly the same size, 8.5" wide. If you run a 275 drag radial, you'll be stepping down considerably.

Posted by TheBrain (Member # 35) on :

Joe,
My Nittos are 245/50-16 on my Ponies
Sawson's E.T. Drags would be great, but I want to go on Friday when they are actually prepping the track. I was told by the people at the track that they don't really prep the track on Wednesday's or Saturday's for Grudge because there are too many "street" cars.
So I feel that E.T. Streets on a prepped track would hook a hell of a lot better than E.T. Drags on a night with little to no prep

I'll e-mail you

BTW, how goes the head install? I saw the pictures of your port work, they look good.

Thanks again
Brian

Brian-
Well, since the Corral crashed as I was trying to respond to you in the Drag Racing forum I will hop over here. I plan to be there Fri. w/ a new set of 3.73's!

I also plan to help you empty that rolling gym locker of yours and at least ice your intake. If you want to try my short belt, you can. Chirag might be there, as well.
Rock and Roll!

Jim L.

3.73's???? on an AOD car? with a stock converter??? What's up with that??

If you are going to have the gears installed, make sure you bring a helmet because you will probably run a 13.86 (Just pulling numbers out of the air)

I am going to remove the passenger seat at home (since I am going to need the room to put the other tires) I wanted to get the battery moved into the trunk before Friday but it doesn't look promising

See you at the track
Brian

Hey, what my fender did to stocker's ET Streets was nothing compared to what he did to them with his own $10 Harbor Frieght 'calibrated' Torque wrench

Taking out the seat works out really well for ice chest and tire-room making:

(excuse the crappy picture quality)

Posted by stocker (Member # 298) on :

yes sawson, I know you didn't do anything to my tires, but I was just joking 'cause at one point you thought you did. I'm sure you remember...

congratulations on the new times!!!!!!!!!!!!
