So what needs to be done to register a car from out of state here? I picked up a car from Washington and now I want to register it here.

Pretty sure you gotta take it to dmv and have it reffed

Smog and title, unless it’s a truck then you gotta do some more stuff.

Posted by stangin' (Member # 514) on :

just get it smog and take it to DMV for a VIN verification. Simple as that.

Posted by NEIGHT (Member # 8741) on :

Ok sounds simple, I'll be registering it tomorrow. Thanks for the replies. [patriot]

Make sure it has Vin numbers on the drivers door and trunk area, otherwise it won’t pass vin verification, I had to help streetfighter50 with this when his didn’t pass vin verification

I think the guy from EPA that does DMV transactions can do the vin verification and title transfer if you don't Want to wait in the DMV line. He did it 4-5 years ago to my fox from Oregon.

Thanks for the compliments. I flew to Seattle, Washington on Thursday to buy it Friday the 15th. All I did to it was buy a new headlight bulb and upper radiator hose and drove it 800+ miles straight(just stopped for gas) without one single issue. She is 100% bone stock with EVERYTHING working on the car A/C, heater, ETC. One of the best condition foxes I've seen in a LONG time and it's the rare 5-speed. [Whoo Whooooo!] I didn't even give it a tune-up or anything and it passed California smog yesterday no problem I'm getting my VIN's verified today after work which are all there and matching. Best part about everything is that I bought the car for less than most foxes on CL(including buckets). [worship] [Cool] [Whoo Whooooo!]

That's a nice vert... Yeah can't believe the prices of foxes these days! I bought my 4 banger notch for 500 and my 5.0 notch for 2200 with gt40 heads e303 cam 3.55 gears 2.5yrs ago.

No it's originally vibrant red with white top/interior and white ponies. My car is the rarer one because they made 2,193 total and only 787 were in 5-speed.

I have a cousin that moved out to Seattle, Washington and I went to visit him back in November. I picked up this habit from my uncle and check craigslist for things I normally search here for wherever I'm at and I came across this car. Hit dude up had him send me a bunch of pictures of under the car, engine bay, interior, pretty much everything just close-ups to make sure my flight will be worth it and it was everything the pictures. Flew out there for $59 and drove back with $110 in gas and I still have an 1/8th tank(been driving it all week). Odometer says 54,600 but the guy told me its 154,xxx.

Clean ride. [patriot]

Did they just check the vins or did they also poke around look at smog equipment?

Thank you. [patriot]

They looked at two vins, mileage, and then looked at something on my coil cover( [Confused] ). She did not look at my smog equipment although it's all there but your hood does come open in case you were curious about that. I'm not sure if they do more of a thorough look at your car but I tried to distract her by making conversation. Once I did, it seemed like she just started glancing and signing off different things on the sheet.

Anyone know how to get a vin if your vehicle doesn’t have me?

Posted by Martinna (Member # 12493) on :

Factory 5 kit car forums have details on getting a VIN on a new kit car. It's DMV paper work and an inspection.

Posted by Wildfire532FB (Member # 1482) on :

So what is the process of vin verification? Are they just checking to make sure the vehicle isn’t stolen? If the vin doesn’t come back anything is that bad?

Posted by Martinna (Member # 12493) on :

Is it a kit car? All cars from big manufactures are required to have VINs. How did you end up with a a car with out a VIN, unless it's a kit car you built?

Posted by NEIGHT (Member # 8741) on :

For VIN verification at the DMV you just gotta line up in the line where it says "inspection" and they check it all out. I'm sure if you don't have VIN's they'll make CHP check out the whole car. All cars are required to leave the factory with VIN's so if you have a car that doesn't have any I say that's a big red flag that at one point it was stolen then probably turned into a drag car? [Confused]

It has a serial number but not a 17 digit vin, it’s a military vehicle

You may have to look further into that. Could possibly be only able to use off-road. If you have a title already from whomever you purchased it from I think it might be the same process I went thru to register my car here in CA.
