Three questions.....

Do they throw up check engine lights?
Do they need a tune ?
Will they pass CA smog?

Thus question applies to my 01 Gt...

I have an aftermarket y pipe on my truck with cats and it passes just fine. It even has the carb # laser etched into the cats. Its bigger and flows better. No tuning required

I have a MAC. Passes no prob.

Should not throw check engine because your connecting the O2 sensors back on, no tune and if your aftermarket pipe only has 2 cats it should pass smog as long as the smog tech doesn't know it comes with 4 cats from factory.

That's good to hear, cause I don't want to go through the pain in the ass of on and off with an h pipe to pass smog

Well if it doesn't have 4 cats and the smog tech see's 2 then you will fail the visual.

Just out of curiously is there a reason why you're gonna waste money changing out a catted midpipe for a catted midpipe?

Not sure if my new cat back is going to sound mean enough with a stock mid pipe...aftermarket is thicker and higher flowing...my old lady can't stand the smell with off road h pipes also lol

If Its a replacement carb# legal aftermarket pipe then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes but I don't think he wants to spend 800 on a smog legal h-pipe

The one I'm looking at on AM are about 400 dollars made by Pypes with two cats, not carb legal though ...

H pipes sound like shit lol

I've had both X and H pipes and in my opinion the X takes away or muffles your exhaust and the H is more of a rumbler which is what I'm after...just my opinion though

No check engine lights.

No tune needed.

00+ up smog check is just a visual inspection now. 2 high flow cats will fail the visual inspection for your vehicle.

I spent the $800 on a legal aftermarket pipe setup. But my choices werea replacement from factory for $1300 or a better flowing legal replacement for $800.

If your looking to just fool the cops then go for it. But if you don't want to have the hassle of possibly change out your mid pipe come smog. Then spend the extra cash and dobit right. It's not like your freeing up that much more power.
