Last night someone broke into the lot here at the Auto Shop and proceeded to steal from and smash 7 of our cars. They concentrated on our '89 5.0 Notch autocross car, our '92 5.0 Convertible, and our '90 5.0 hatch that we picked up a few months ago. Not to be left out were the '84 Turbocoupe and '89 Sabel. Seems they like Fords...

They stole plug wires, caps, and an MAF. They attempted to take the batteries, but couldn't carry them. Unfortunately once done with their stealing they began to smash windows. 7 of our vehicles have multiple windshields and windows broken.

I'm feeling a combination of intense anger and disappointment. It bugs me that my students and I spend so much time trying to fix and improve things and some jackass comes along and pulls a stunt like this. The SLPD was very helpful and I hope we are able to catch the person who did this.

If you have any info or suggestions I'm all ears. In 12 years teaching here this is the first incident I've had like this and it's really shaken my faith.

gay, can you post pics of the rides taken so we can share with everybody to look out for.

Posted by ashyers (Member # 9382) on :

Fortunately no cars were taken, just vandalized. I don't get why you'd just smash them up for no reason...

From the little I know at this point it does not appear to be one of my students, but I suspect they do go to the school. Sad thing is when you do something like this it negatively effects the 100 kids I see every day. Time, energy, and of course $ wasted.

Completely unfortunate. I hope they catch the clowns that did this.

How horrible. Maybe we can gather some things to get these cars fixed. I have a MAF and passenger fox window I'll donate. Let us know what you need.

Thanks so much for the reply's, it takes a bit of sting out of this. My students have also been great.

It's always good to hear from a former student and student's family member out there, small world! To the former student from '05, you should drop by and see the Shop, it's changed a bit. To Pablo's cousin, he's doing fine in there, seems to have some talent. Has he always been such a smart a$$ [Smile] !!

Here's the latest. We have some video, it's not very good, but it looks like the guy who did this is a teenager, around 130# and 5'6", probably White or Hispanic. He cut himself up pretty good, likely on his hands and arms. He spent 2 hours stealing and smashing cars in the lot!! He is not one of my students, but I suspect he goes to the school and lives close by as he walked over to SLHS from the south on Bancroft. My students are keeping an eye out for him.

It looks like we are going to be learning a bit about glass replacement! Our coupe had ALL the glass smashed, the convertible had the windshield and ds window smashed, and our hatch had the windshield and both ds and ps windows smashed. In addition the joker stole one MAF, one compete stock air intake system, one BBK intake system, 2 distributor caps, and 1 set of wires. He attempted to steal another MAF, 3 batteries, 1 set of wires, and any stereo bits he could find. If he was in the class he would know that we pull all the stereos out of the cars...

At this point I'm trying to plan how to deal with this so we get the cars sorted and the kids learn from this mess. I'm thinking of contacting a local glass shop to see if they would be interested in doing a series of installs with the crew of us observing. I figure they'll learn about glass install and appreciate the amount of work and $ involved in cleaning up the mess this kid caused. It's definitely thrown a kink in the class, as we now have 6 vehicles with damage that are of limited value to teach with.

Thanks again for all the support and offers of help. I suspect I'll need it!

Andy

I have to clear out a lot of misc parts too. I'm going to be going through what I have this week too and wouldn't mind donating some of the stuff I was going to sell.. I know I have a passenger window or window and door still off an 87 gt plus a few fenders shoot me a pm if needed. These kids shouldn't have to suffer cause one dumb ass.

Mr. Shyers is that you!!? This is Sam, i was in your 06 class with the black notch.
I'm really dissapointed to hear someone would pull some shit like that, i learned a ton in ur class n have much love for the school.
I have an extra rear windshield for the notch that id like to donate if you guys still need one.
Ive been wanting to stop by for years now but was unsure if you were still teaching there. How late do you hang out after class?

I deliver to SLH every week so if there's any way I can help with dropping off a pallet worth of goods I'd be able to help deliver to your shop. Feel free to PM me if you'd like. [patriot]

I know its not a Mustang, but if you guys need a donation and can get me a value receipt for tax writeoff purposes, I can donate a running 2000 Mercury Cougar V6, just has back registration ($719), and needs a smog (tune-up first)

Thanks for all the offers to help out. I'll post a list tomorrow morning of items we're looking for. One of the local glass shops is working on getting a quote together for us. The plan is to have them install the windshields and we'll sort out the other windows. I'm not inclined to play with butyl cement and students. Someone will get bonded to the floor, car, garage door, or another student [Smile] !

Sam, good to hear from you. If you want to drop by I rarely, if ever, leave the Shop prior to 5, unless I have to get parts or other business. Feel free to drop in.

Andy

Unfortunately it looks like the Shop is not going to get much help from the school and we were unable to get any of the cars fixed, so I'm looking for the following parts so I can sort out the cars over the summer:

*'89 Mustang Notch: All windows including the 1/4 glass

*'90 Mustang Hatch: Right window, windshield, air intake tubes and airbox

*'92 Mustang Convertible: Left window, windshield, air intake tubes and airbox

The plan at this point is to get the cars to a functioning state and worry about the smaller damage later. If you have any of the above parts available PM me. Thanks!

Andy

Definitely interested in the passenger window.

Unfortunately the hatch and coupe 1/4 windows do not interchange, I wish they did!

One of my former students and CAfords member dropped off a rear window for the coupe yesterday, and another member has an airbox in the mail. Thanks CAfords [Smile] !

Have not been on here for a while so here's the update:

Looks like the joker who did the damage to the cars has done something else. I was told his fingerprints showed up in another crime. I look forward to his being arrested! Unfortunately I'm told the detective involved is very busy and this is low on the priority list. Guess I just have to wait until he does something to warrant more attention...

We do have the cars running and I need to get on the glass hunt. From what I can tell the 1/4 glass is going to be a pain to find.
