Bought this as a hodgepodge set up dude didn't really know much about it but clean title and running was a go for me.
How it came
 -
Drove it home and it was cutting out. Thought it was fuel but turned out to be a bad ignition/headlight harness. The whole harness was hacked
 - for reference
Took out the whole dash and both harnesses no pic sorry
Replaced main harness with "sd" reman harness from mustangguy
Grey dash with harness and also the light harness from Haulinass Matt
 -
On the 2nd or 3rd day of owning it I got a new clutch for it (install is tomorroe) and the correct 86 lx front bumper from a buddy. It looked good when I bought it but I took it to my boys body shop anyways he took it down to bare plastic and had it welded (crack on lower portion) and riveted the header panel and cover back together
 -
Auto body express is name of the shop it's on San Leandro blvd accross from Volvo but not where the 4 door nova is!
 -
Dark canyon red fenders (not rattle can) mounted and awaiting bumper still no 83-86 hood
Ordered a vent grill since they were on sale (thanks 50resto.com)
Original ford unit
 -
New repo unit
 -
On a night I wasn't getting much done I took a peak under the car and I have tokico struts and shocks
 -
Tubular welded in subframe connectors and after market lca's maybe Griggs I'm not sure

Finished product as of tonight getting the fenders aligned bumper is on and bolted hood is still wrong but I layer some towels down so it doesn't gouge the fresh bumper and didn't latch it all the way

There's a red hood with clear coat damage at the fremont pick n pull as well as a nice rear bumper from an 86.

Nice work James!

Be careful with that hood flying up. The car has potential and sits just right. So far so good...

Thanks for the support guys. I like my buckets. You can buy them cheaper and worth more to me than someone elses handy work.

Towed the car out of my apartment complex (yes Ive been doing all this in my outside stall lol)

Ripped into the car to find an adjustable clutch cable (small win) and a ram cluctch. It was toast but was cool to see
 -

Arp flywheel bolts (5 out of 6) from previous owner
 -

Crappy news was that the Chinese pos clutch fork broke. Not completely but one of the "teeth?" for the pivot ball side broke off so a quick trip to pep boys Union city fixed that.
No pic but it's fixed so whatever ill snap a pic tomorrow

Also come to find out, the bearing retainer was dryer than a bitches pussy in the desert! Gouged and heat checked I didn't risk it. Maybe that's why there was a near new one in the trunk I decided to keep a couple weeks ago looking through the car. Popped it off swapped the bearing race and bolted it back together I'm happy about that. Once again I'll have a pic tomorrow showing the two.
 -

Decided while I'm down there I'll be replacing the tail shaft seal so that will be fresh too.
Also I don't know anyone else's protocol but I usually throw a rubber glove over the tail shaft to stop the fluid from spilling everywhere. Made the effort but my brother punched it off so a quart or so of ROYAL PURPLE is on the ground. Was kinda happy to find out it was that and was happy to replace the good stuff. I'm running the atf max stuff. Read on other forums it's a good product.
Not sure if it's world class or not but I have the 2 tone "cup" near the retainer, light outer and and dark center
 -
Clutch goes in tomorrow a because kragen sold me a TOB not a pilot bearing like I asked. Picked one up before they closed and called it a night. Makes it easier to start at sunrise to finish. Also if anyone out here (San Leandro) is availe tomorrow, sunday, I could use some help wiring the car up and getting it to start! Ran when parked haha

Did you change out the rear main seal? Looks like it's leaking from the pictures.

Posted by LXjames (Member # 10791) on :

No I didnt. Unfortunate it was an after thought. Car doesn't leave a puddle so it can wait. Plus old clutch was dry.

It's been a while, I've asked a lot of questions haven't really told anyone on here what's been up.

Heres what's been done and or bought and waiting to be installed since my last update:
SRA out of a 97 cobra
MM extreme duty adjustable LCA
Ford motorsport maf conversion (standalone style)
Full cobra MC and install kit with wilwood prop valve lines and plug
Bought the correct 85/86 style moldings for the section just after the rear wheels
Also a 86 rear bumper I scored from pick n pull
Picked up some black carpet
MGW shifter
SVE dark star reps in stainless 17" fronts 15x10 rears
Black sill plates from lmr
MM panhard bar
And not to mention some fox length mosers for disc brakes with arp studs and some nrc brackets to tie it all together (all of which came from duncan motors who is always a top tier business man and knowledgeable to boot)
And yesterday I ended the years car parts shopping by scooping up those brand new black staggered saleens D.R.E had for sale. Great guy to do business with those are with.

CAMD FOX has them as we speak and should be mounted and balanced tomorrow. 245's up front and 265's on the rear. I will go larger in the rear later on down the road but the deal I got for the pair was awesome!

After the Holliday hell is over its back on the grind. The paint shop and the deposit I put down aren't going anywhere but the motor and tranny I would like to run in this car will. So I'm holding off on paint to get a jump on a drive train. Wish you all a happy New Years
