Eddie I thought you were in Fremont but I see your location says SoCal. I was gonna say Fremont has a few spots tap/tasting rooms. Craft beer is the shit.

There a few good ones out right now. Sierra Nevada bourbon barrel aged Narwhal, Firestone 18 anniversary, old Rasputin's bourbon barrel aged all those 3 are 13% or higher a pair well with a nice cigar.

Younger comes out in February for SF Beerweek. We usually don't advertise when we tap our keg, it last's about an hour if we're lucky. We get Elder once a month. We always announce when it goes on. Usually lasts about a day.

Younger is good. But in my option a fresh simtra is way better.

That's the beauty of the craft beer boom. You get to drink what you like from a list of never ending choices!

+1 denoginizer used to be my favorite until I tried simtra. Actially sippin on Hoparillo right now 11%. Has a nice sweet finish.

The whole knee deep line up is amazing some of the best IPA out there hands down.

Posted by theconductor (Member # 13458) on :

It's really hard to compare Younger to any other beer. It is only brewed once a year and after waiting in line for god knows how long, it's very unlikely that you'll be drinking another triple IPA at the same place. I find that no matter how many great TIPA's that I drink, every year Younger amazes me.

Knee Deep is certainly killing it. Them along with breweries like Altamont, Cellarmaker, Societe, Alpine, Berryessa and Kern River are definitely the emerging west coast kings of hops...

I agree that younger is good but there is also a lot of hype built around the Russian river brand which I'm not hating on I have quite a few bottles aging from them. But when it comes to 3x IPA there's a lot more out there than younger that are just as good minus the line.

Can you shoot me a PM when you get the elder?

We opened a batch 2 Consecration over the summer and it was amazing. Their sours are definitely the highlight of their brewery in my opinion.

Nice batch 2 that's had a lot of time to age. I agree there sours are amazing they give them a different twist by aging them in wine barrels. Sours are becoming the new IPA right now its cool to see the transition craft beer is taking and the art involved.

I haven't got the taste for sours and saisons or even imperial stouts. I'm all about triple ipa's right now.

Once you get that taste, you'll be hooked for life. Broke too, since they are some expensive mother fuckers.

I can't remember exactly when I bought it, but I'm guessing 5, maybe 6 years ago. If you ever make it out to Roseville, stop by my place. We have a solid sour bottle selection. Usually one or two on tap.

That all come's in time. I love my IPA the stronger the better I love that the Stone Enjoy By 12.26.14 are out. If you try some of the higher end Bourbon Barrel aged stouts you change yor mind and toss new beers into the mix.

What Tap room do you own in Roseville? I've been to Final Gravity and Boneshakers. Yes Craft beer will leave you broke if you get carried away I know I have a cellar full of aged beer from 2010 til current.

My wife and I own it. Jeremy does a good job of supporting his local accounts and makes it in often. A little less now that he's moved to Auburn along with the brewery. It's a great industry to be a part of. Boneshaker is another great place. JJ is a stand up guy.

Yeah, please do. I was between mustangs when we first opened and took a step back from it. I still work for the railroad so pm if you are thinking about coming out, and if I'm around, we'll drink a beer.

Thanks for the kind words.

All of you who are into craft beer should take a serious look into home brewing. I started about 6 months ago and I have brewed some really great beers. It will give you a new appreciation for beer and save a few bucks. So far I've brewed:

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Belgian Dark Strong Ale 9.2%
Pliny the Elder 8.2%
A Robust Porter I found online
Belgian Blonde, is in the bottle not ready yet
Belgian Golden Strong Ale, still in the fermenter
Stone IPA clone, just brewed this weekend

Pliny has a very narrow window of peak flavor. It tasted great about 2-5 weeks out of the fermenter. After that it goes off a bit. The Porter, and Belgian Dark Strong are getting better and better but I will probably drink them all before they hit their peak.

I'm way too lazy to brew! Between working for the railroad and owning a bar, time to brew is minimal. Of course being able to get beer at cost does help;)

We have customers bring in homebrew all of the time. Some of it is absolutely amazing beer.

I would be 1 broke man if I could get beers at cost.

I've just started getting into IPA's but can't really judge whats "good" and "not so good." I've tried Pliney before from my cousin and it was amazing...the taste reminded me of a pine tree for some reason.

What are some stores where I can buy bottles of the good stuff?

Anyone try Buzzerkeley? Pretty good stuff, I tried it at San Pedro square in downtown San Jose.

Where are you located? There are a lot of great shops in the bay area.

What are some good sours? I like Rodenbach, especially their Grand Cru. St Bernadus? Monk something or other...and the white bottle with the Elephant? Those red sours taste like candy! I haven't drank much of anything in the last three years, but those are the types of beers I started to like before I got too tired with life to drink on a regular basis. LOL. Now I may drink once a month or two months [Frown]

Forgot to add: around that same time I tried "barbar" and really liked it as well.

I'm a die hard craft beer fan. Hands down, my favorite is Drakes. They have a damn good IPA as well as double IPAs that will put you on your ass after a few beers lol. It's even better at the brewery in San Leandro on tap (obviously). The ones I'd recommend.. their IPA, 1500, Dry Stout, Denoginizer, double IPA (if they still have it), and their "tree beer" if they have begun serving it for the holiday season.

I'm in Hayward /castro valley. Any recommendations of where to pick up some good craft brews to try out?

As mentioned above, Drakes is local and I do like their beers, but I'd like to try out some other recommended brands.

Hayward has buffalo bills, but thats more of a resturaunt than tap room. Fremont has a couple tasting rooms in their liqour stores. Cork n bottle or whole foods on Mowry or mission liqours or calicraft on mission. My favorite is mission pizza just off 680 and Washington. They have 35 beers on tap. You gotta try knee deep simtra. Stronger than drakes denoginizer. Two of those and you won't be able to drive home lol.

Thanks for the tips. I typically go to Trader Joes in CV to get my IPA but they don't have what I consider a large selection. I have been to the Whole Foods in fremont and I've tried a few different ones there. I'll have to check out the other places when I get the chance. Thanks!

The Bistro in Hayward is where it's at! Make sure to get tix to the DIPA fest to kick of SF Beer Week. You're also a short(ish) drive from Caps N Taps in Dublin and Altamont Beer Works in Livermore. Altamont is absolutely killing the IPA scene right now.

Up the road a piece and brewing stellar beer is Faction Brewing in Alameda. Serving great beer is Beer Revolution in Oakland. Beer Rev along with City Beer in SF are the pace setters for taprooms in California.
