I recently picked up a 2011 GT, I love it! But on our hot summer days they chrome metal shift knob gets so hot I can barely touch it. My windows are tinted all around, I use a sun shade for the from window, and I even cover up the shifter so the sun can't possibly hit it. It still gets crazy hot!

I really like the old school pool ball type shift knob, but I don't want to burn my hand. Any suggestions?

My current shift knob:

My GT500 has a cue ball shifter, I haven't had a problem with heat so far. I would highly recommend it.

I think because my shift knob is metal it just heat soaks to whatever the ambient inside temp gets. Pretty damn hot.

If you're worried about heat, go wood. Wood dissipates heat crazy fast.

When's the last time you've put your hand on a tree, that has been out in the sun all day, and it felt even close to hot? Let alone hot enough to burn you? Or walked barefoot on a wood dock and burned your feet?

Good call. My 93 5.0 is plastic oem. Plastic also doesn't heat soak. The shifter ball in my srt never heat soaks either. I thought it was metal but am doubting that now

I have a roush on my 2011 I like it. I use to have a shifter ball like yours on my old stang, I hated it! I would always burn my hand in the sacramento heat.

You don't have the TV screen on the coyote?

Who needs a tv? I don't even listen to the radio. The rumble of the engine is all I like to listen to. If this car came with just a blank panel in the area where the radio/Microsoft sync system is it wouldn't have bothered me at all.

Those things get HOT! I have a metal one in my bimmer and it burns the shit out of me everytime my car sits out in the sun. I'm just patiently waiting to find a leather one for my car I never liked mine.

Guess that's what you get with the base model, a reminder with hot hands you coulda got the upgrade model with a leather wrapped shifter.

I also have my leather wrapped stock shifter, if you want to buy it.

This car isn't a base model.

It's a GT Premium with California Special Package. It also has the Shaker Sound System, Security Package & factory installed 3.73's, that's roughly $4k in crap(msrp) over base model.

A leather wrapped shifter ball will cost anywhere from $20-100 depending on what I like & want to buy. Not a big enough deal to be mad, but enough that I would like to fix it.

LOL, I thought the CA specials came with the screen though too. I know mine did. But the thought of the base models not having the 20 dollar shifter ball with the leather wrapped around it seems silly to me.

I'm not sure what shift ball mine is, but I'm sure someone considered it an upgrade over stock. I'd love it if it weren't 180* when needing to shift.
