I took my Cobra in for a fuel system, blower swap and some other odds and ends early last month. It's been a good bit of time now and he still hasn't started working on my car yet.
I'm just curious what length of wait you guys expect when dropping your car off for work?
I don't want to be a nag and call everyday because I know how busy shops get but I also don't want to wait until the end of summer to get my car back.

The last time I was in a situation like this it was with a trans am I took in for a tune and fuel system upgrades and it took a total of 6 months. I made it a point not to call and check up on it because again I know how busy shops get and with taking random customer calls it makes everything slower so I just left him to do his work.

I just don't want to end up waiting 6 months for my car to get finished.
Should I take it to another shop?

A month is too long. I know people are busy but if they are that backed up they shouldn't take on more work. He hasnt even started on your car yet

I'd get the car outta there. The longer it's in there, the greater the chance something might happen to it like someone dropping a tool on it, getting a door ding or parts getting lost once he starts taking it apart. I don't know how nice your car is to worry about stuff like that but I'd find a capable shop that wants the work if you can't do the work yourself.

The one thing that is bothersome is the work that I am getting done I am capable of doing, I just figured since it needs a tune it'd be much easier to get everything done at once at the shop.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll be picking it up tomorrow to move to another shop.

Should only drop it off when the shop is going to perform the work.

Definitely pick it up and take it elsewhere. It shows me that they don't care about customer loyalty enough to even start.. they're just putting you on the back-burner. Grab it along with all of your parts and don't pay a dime.

That's how I feel. Plus, if something gets broke or lost. I only have myself to blame.

take it to another shop!!! Look I have never waited for any work. I have had lots of stuff done by shops, If you go to a good shop, you shouldn't have to wait! Yes some project take time but to wait a month for them to touch your car is just [BS flag]

TOO LONG~ company should have told you they were that far out.

Agreed. I have had my car at shops for extended stays. However that is usually when a lot of work is getting done. If it was there for over a month with nothing done, I would be concerned. If they are to busy then that is fine, but they should say it up front if it is going to take a month just to start.

Now once the work is started... Totally different story. Plenty of crap comes up especially with fuel system and what not. I believe calling once a week to check in is appropriate unless they say it is a month long job or something.

Before I put my car into a shop, I make sure I get a date of completion and price. Do not trust your car to a shop without these two crucial pieces disclosed.
