Got a wired setup from Costco with a bunch of cameras. Playbacks when it needs to. Records upon motion sensing. Relatively clear at night, though I'm sure the more expensive sets are better. Got my wired set for $500 with 8 cameras. Not too bad.
Works. Keeps the thieves away.

Or maybe it's my German Shepard...

I work in the IP surveillance industry for high end cameras so i have some background in this topic.

Personally I bought a 4 channel Swann system from amazon for less than $300. Cams are 480TVL which is nice and clear on the TV (If you live stream cams on most of these cheaper DVR's it will be at a shitty resolution and look grainy, on the TV it will be clear)

Depending on how much coverage you want 4ch or 8ch are the best options.

Costco carries Lorex brand which are really nice.

One thing to mention is most of these boxed DVR systems are all made in china. The cameras usually all have similar CMOS?CCD image sensors mass produced in china even the housings look similar except branding and color usually.

Pretty much any of these you get will be decent for what you want to do and i would recommend against going wireless cams (usually you need a PC to record to and these cameras are easy to hack into with a well known exploit).

I would suggest checking out amazon or newegg and look at the cheaper systems from Swann, Lorex, Qsee, Kgaurd. See which has the best reviews.

Try to stick with more than 460TVL and make sure the DVR is capable of recording at D1 resolutions for at least 10 frames or more per stream (You get more FPS for the lesser resolutions)

There is no need to run 30 FPS per camera since you are not a casino! just an FYI. I usually run around 10 - 14 FPS on my front cameras.

These analog cameras that come in the cheaper DVR's will have LED's for the nightvision. More LED's will usually equal better night vision (as long as the camera sensor is not shit)

Check this one out:

http://www.amazon.com/Swann-SWDVK-829004-US-Channel-Digital-Recorder/dp/B00DLL4MEU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_p_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=02DZ9GJ4K3HP8ATHA92F

This is a great buy since it has the 8 cameras with a better image sensor as well as a 1TB hard drive (approx 30 days of video retention/storage) also has the HDMI hookup which is nice.

Good luck PM me if you have questions bro.
