Just wanted to let everyone know of my very recent experience with Borelli Motorsports... Sorry not a Mustang though...

So after doing lots of research and reading reviews I decided to take my 05 Infiniti G35 Coupe to Borelli Motorsports for them to install the following parts on my car(all brand new, straight from Japan):
-Nismo Cluch Disc
-Nismo Flywheel
-Nismo Pressure Plate
-Aftermarket Chromoly Pivot Ball
-Aftermarket Stainless Steel Clutch line
-Infiniti OEM Throwout Bearing
-Infiniti OEM Pilot Bushing
-Infiniti OEM Clutch Slave cylinder
-4 qt Royal Purple Tranny Oil
-1 Lucas Tranny additive

I got their on Thursday morning and I was greeted by Jason, very kind by the way, and told them I wanted all those parts installed on my G35 and asked him if it would be done by end of day Friday. He talked to his specialist mechanic who used to work for another local and reputable shop who specialized in Nissan's and Infiniti's, so I felt very confident my car would be in good hands. I stated to him to SAVE ME ALL THE PARTS that he removes so that I can take a look at them.
They quoted me $750 for installing all the parts and before I signed it I made sure to reiterate to him to save me all the parts again.

The next day around 1pm I get a call from Jason saying that the stainless steel line I provided them was leaking. I found this hard to believe, but hey it may happen so I asked him to put the stock one on and meanwhile i'll order another one and exchange it for the leaky one. I get a call around 4pm saying that my car is ready and I tell him that I won't be able to pick up until the next day, Saturday. He says it's ok and we hang up.

Early morning the next day I drive to Borelli Motorsports to pick up my car and pick up the parts. The guy at the front rings me up and hands me my keys. I got see my car and then I ask the guy about where are my parts that they removed. He goes around and the shop looking and then looks and my trunk and cant find anything. After about 15 min he find some of the parts under the mechanics cart. The only parts that are there are the pressure plate, clutch disc and flywheel. I ask him if he knows where the other parts are and he removes a tarp over the top of the mechanic cart to look for them and cant find any, but as he searching I notice that one of the parts I brought in brand new is in the mechanics cart, still in the packaging bag unopened. At this point I'm like WTF??? How is my car considered done when parts I asked them to install aren't installed and they never called me to say that they weren't going to install it or something to that matter. The guy says that since the mechanic who worked on my car is not there he is going to ask around to see if anyone has the mechanics number. About 15 min later he gets a hold of the number and leave the mechanic a few messages and says he isn't sure what to do. I tell him I will be back Monday morning to discuss with the shop manager and the mechanic this issue.

I will keep you guys posted what happens tomorrow. I just can't believe that such a reputable like them would do something like that. If I would have never asked for my parts or gone back there I would have just assumed that they installed all those parts.

So what you guys think I should do?

whats the part?

Posted by Saleenssc14 (Member # 7791) on :

The pivot ball. According to some YouTube videos and some DIY, all you have to do is screw the old one out and screw the new one in. Being that my car is almost at 100k miles I wanted to change most of the parts in the tranny.

Whoops.
What we have here is.....failure to communicate [Eek!]

Posted by SLOW95GTS (Member # 10365) on :

could be that it didn't fit and he probably put the stock one back on, just let the mechanic explain his side of the story before going off on them, lol.

Posted by Saleenssc14 (Member # 7791) on :

It could be but I ruled that excuse out because the part was still in its original bag fully sealed.

Maybe the one on your car is in perfect working order and the mechanic is trying to save you a buck or two... who knows [Confused] keep us updated

?????^^^^^ that would only make sense if they did not charge him for the install of it? He bought the part either way and wanted it installed. Something should be made right . I used to own a shop and know first hand that this all boils down to bad communication!!

If that part is the same exact part that was supposed to be installed, then there is absolutely no excuse. If something isnt right, then a call needs to be made right away, if the parts were supposed to be saved, then make a note on the repair order of that.. poor communication is a killer. Hope you get this all resolved.

Wow! Even if they were trying to save him a couple of bucks by not installing his new part cause the old part was still good they should have gave him his new parts when he picked up his car. SHADY!!!!

Not the way to go about this in my o2,should have tt the mechanic first before you blast the shop and let him explain..shit this could simply come down to him flat out forgetting and he will later take care of it but yet you don't know what's going so the first thing you do is make a thread about it [Confused] I for one in many situations call the customer to explain throughout the day what is goin on with the car/send pics/and or text, always constant communication but people do get busy and are only human, figure this out with the mechanic before anymore negative stems from this don't just "assume" you got played,if it's one thing I can't stand as a mechanic is foul play after I work on someone's car whether it's bad mouthing, assumptions,or taking the car somewhere else to get looked at before I get a chance myself to make it right..mechanic to "non" mechanic customer jobs are sometimes crap situations..good luck man

Btw it's 1130 am..have you heard back from them this morning at all? Updates...

Turned out that the mechanic hadn't saved all the parts but dug through some bins and found all the parts. As for why he didn't install the part was simply because he forgot. They did say that once the new clutch line comes in they will install it at no cost... Which is great... I did pay the $750 but never got my answer as to why if I would have never gone back there and figured out myself that my new part was there, why didn't they at least notify me or why they wouldn't have given me the new part back.

Either way I am not bad mouthing this shop in a negative way, I am just making people aware of my situation with them and what precautions they should look out for when dealing with any shop not just B M. Would I recommend them to other? Yes. Just be sure to fully explain what you want done in full detail so nothing is missed.

Hmm. Interesting. Those guys built my Z06 when they used to work for TPS Motorsports and I haven't had any issues with them.

That being said, I do know of a buddy who had issues with a clutch install on his Z06 with them recently.

i hate big shops like that where your not dealing with the mechanic directly, words get lost in the shuffle amongst many, who knows if any of that is true, when u got all the parts in front of u, i dont see how u can forget. and they should of saved the parts thats just the law anyways.

Carlos,
I apologize for the miscommunication.
I should have told the tech on duty for sat that you would be picking up the old parts.
Aaron(tech who did your install) had the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel in the box that I gave you.
Aaron has a lot of experience with NISMO cars as i'm sure you found when talking with him.
He did forget the pivot ball, but did say that the existing one was in great shape, otherwise he would have changed it. In the hundreds of 350's,370's,g35's,etc....he says he never changes them unless they are bad. So rest assured that yours is fine.
It still was not changed as you asked.....which is why I told you I would swap out your clutch line for free.
When you came in on sat, the tech you spoke with knew nothing of your car, or the job, as he was not working on it.
All he knew was that you were picking it up.
This was my fault for not letting him know where your old parts were.
We had a Hooked on Driving event here on sat, so both Aaron and I were at the shop, but looks like we missed each other.
To make this right I will swap your clutch line for free since the one you brought in was inoperable.

Can't ask for anything better! Nice job to you and the shop for stepping up, and wanting to make the customer happy!
