Ever since I sold my 98 Cobra Faleen to make "important moves" in life, I've been craving to get back on the race track. After accomplishing what I needed to do with my family earlier this year, my wife gave me the thumbs up to get back in the game. I initially wanted to start open tracking a Miata because of all the good things I've heard about them (cheap and fun!), but the low hp/tq just didn't cut it for me. After buying and selling 2 miatas and making a little extra cash off each deal, I was able to finally work my way up to afford what I've always wanted...a race legal American Iron racecar!

So here it is in all its glory. Its an 1989 Mustang LX, built and raced in NASA American Iron Southeast, but has recently been used to race in the SCCA American V8 Supercar series for the SF Region (last owned by Cortex Racing - Darrell Anderson).

Quick rundown of the setup: full Maximum Motorsports suspension, built 306 motor(305rwhp/322rwtq), gutted/caged (2900 lbs), Brembo brakes, Konig Villain wheels, etc...

The car is LOUD and runs hard. Haven't really "tested" it out yet, but hopefully I'll be out at the first trackday offered in 2014 to see what it can do!

The car needs some debadging of all the stickers, a little cleaning up, and some fresh lubrication but other than that it should be a fun toy ready to rock:burnout:

Congratulations Ian. Car looks good. I've raced against that car with Darrell sr. at the wheel.

Here is a nice link for track day dates for California.

Thanks guys! I plan to keep this one around for a while. I won't have to worry about smog or anything so I can just let it sit in the garage without any worries.

Troy, did you race against it in NASA or SCCA? I'm not sure if I bought it off Darrell Sr. Or Jr. but he's a middle-aged gentleman who runs Cortex.

Ian it was with NASA. Jr is who you bought it from I'm sure. Sr is in his 70's buy now.

I almost bought this car a few years ago before I bought my 93 Cobra, I can't believe it's been for sale this long.

Lee, where where you going to buy it from? I know it was for sale about 3-4 yrs ago when it was still in Alabama. It then was sold to a guy in Pleasanton and then sold to Darrell Anderson who said has owned it for a couple yrs and used as a backup racecar.

Thanks Mo! Wheels are 17's. Considering trading for REAL OEM 95 Cobra R's if anyone is interested.

And your partially correct about me keeping cars...but I did have my FALEEN for about 2.5 yrs [Razz]

The seller was in Pleasanton and I think it was in 2011 when I was looking at it

The Pleasanton guy is who sold it to Darrell Anderson, which is who I bought it from.

Thanks Guys! Yea my son loves it. I can't say the same until I get it out on track and Test it out.

Mike, its an AI and AV8SS legal car but I don't intend to race either (yet at least). I'll be running group 4 (maybe group 3 for the first couple track days until I get used to it).
