The road to the Super Bowl in the NFC likely goes through the Seattle Seahawks, and it's possible the 49ers could see the Panthers again down the line. The team needs to find a way to survive against top-flight defenses.

I hope when Alex Smith retires he stays in the league coaching and becomes a head coach. Yes, freak plays happen but they happen because players make them happen. That "freak" play would not have happened if Eric Reid was not in the face of Matt Ryan forcing him to throw the ball earlier than he wanted. That "freak" play would not have happened if Tramaine Brock does not jump that route and pops the ball up. That "freak" play would not have happened if Navarro Bowman did not rally to where the ball was and make the interception. I guess you could call every play in
football a "freak" play.
