I have a 89 5.0 mustang with a 302 bored to a 306. I'm goanna take the 40kmile short block in to get checked and change freeze plugs, gaskets.
Now that I've done research on heads I'm still confused.

So I'm looking at
Used Edelbrock e streets 165
Used Edelbrock performers 165
Rebuilt/ported gt40's
Any other "budget" upgrade suggestions from e7

I'm looking for streetable heads on budget which leads me to edelbrock "best bang for Buck" my goal is just h/c/I all motor 280-300hp "very reasonable"

My 306 head, stock cam, intake..... (eddy performer headed, intake, and long tubes, with 3.55s on 19#injectors)

I went 12's at 111mph on a 200k motor.

I was very intrested in the trickflows 185 with trickflow track heat upper n lower, & tb for only $1300 on here. But thay say the 185 are better for 331ci and up plus you have to notch the pistons =more money.

I like this^^^ and the Eddy's were direct bolt on right???
I'm leaning towards an "E" cam

The EDL e streets have intake runners that are 170cc and the EDL performers have 185cc runners, while some have smaller 170cc.. depends on the part number.

I would get whichever you can find the best deal on. It seems most people that I have seen/talked to are getting the best numbers with Trick Flow. That's why I went with Trick Flow. I'm still breaking in my motor, so I won't know how well they perform for a little while. World Products Windsor Sr. Iron Heads did really well for me in the past. AFR's almost always make great power.

I ran some Edelbrock Performer 1.90/1.60 170cc aluminum heads with Holley Systemax and stock cam with 1.7 roller rockers before this setup and on my old tired motor they did hardly any better than stock heads/cam/intake/stamped 1.6 rockers.

Yeah direct bolt on. With bushings to reduce from 7/16 down to 1/2" headbolt, use arp's. Also i had combustion chamber "O" rings on my heads so I had to use a copper ringed head gasket at about 70$ each. But the heads, long tubes, and supporting mods gave me over a 100rwhp. and that was all simply tuned by me just messing with timing, and fuel pressure between runs at the track between runs.
