how much have you guys spent on wedding rings? the big proposal is coming up and the rings I've looked at are 15k to 17k and i thought it wouldn't cost more than 5k! I'd rather buy a cobra! fml

Posted by Slowback67 (Member # 6348) on :

Well if she is wanting a 15k ring she can kick rocks. [patriot]

Anything can happen. I personally don't see the need to spend more then 3,500.00 on a pice of Jewry. Unless you make 100k a year that is.... Then I'd bump it up to 10k tops. [patriot]

I think the rule of thumb is 2 months of your salary = cost of a proposal ring

Posted by 94 N.C.F. GT (Member # 3946) on :

Fuck that i think it is real dumb to spend that kind of money on a ring. Maybe on the wedding its self but definitely no more then 3-5k on a ring if that. Lmao

I got my wife a beautiful 2.5 carat ring in 18karat white gold for only 2,500!

Sad that dedicating love to someone involves spending money like that. And don't tell me it don't. Bring your to be wife a $500 ring and see how that goes.

i lucked the fuck out, i spent $40 bucks to have the one diamond in her grandmas ring that fell out and the "family heirloom" was given to me so i could propose free of charge, the ring itself was worth 12k +/-, i wasnt trippin, although i did tell the bitches (did mention she my ex-wife now) parents that i had 8k and something picked out, but they were very insistant and wouldnt have it any other way, really though, it was gonna be a moisenite, and my shop was getting a car lift....ill be damned if my woman is gonna have 10k...12k...15k...or even 5k... sittin on her hand when she can have a stone (moisenite) that even those diamond detectors have a hard time distinguishing between shine exactly the same and cost a fraction of the price..id say a car or dwn pay on a house or somethin you both can enjoy is way better idea!! [worship]

I honestly don't want to spend more than 5k but the rings Ive looked at are 15k+ wtf! the one we looked at was 9k for 2.1 ct diamond and 2.4k band with 2 ct

Well know wonder the rings are so much LOL. You start getting into 2 ct and your price is going way up.
My wife's is under a 1ct and she's fine with that. When you get passed 2ct if it has any big flaws thy will be a lot easier to see.... Hence the reason for the higher price.

Are you looking at 3 stone rings by the way?

Posted by Ryn621 (Member # 11276) on :

i took my girl to shane company to give me hints. the ring she whants with 1ct is around 6k which not too bad.

Best thing is...the lifetime warranty. You don't have to pay any fees. Just keep coming back every 6 months for CPR get your stamp and get on.

15k is ridculous. Call derco jewelers at the gift center in san fran and schedule an appointment ask for Judy. You get wholesale prices i paid around the price of a supercharger and the ring appraised for 7k. they got the hook. and will even do custom stuff.

Thanks for all the info guys I'm going to look into some of these companies. Looks like Shane co is the way to go but the ring we chose there was 14.6k. Maybe we were in the Baller section but I didn't see anything nice for less than 5k?

What are the stats on the diamond? A 2.5ct diamond for 2500$ is either bad quality or stolen.

Check out Jewelry Mart in San Francisco, I got a 2.0ct center stone with 1.0ct total diamonds surrounding it for $12K with a $30K appraisal and had no problem insuring it $30K

Do whatever is comfortable for you to spend (know your finances!). You don't want to start off a marriage by being in dept from a ring. You can always upgrade later when finances improve.

Yeha what he said. But remeber if your buying from one of those big chain stores your gonna pay an arm and a leg. Take me a lee's advice and check out a wholesaler.

Buy one at a pawn shop. You'll pay the actual value of the ring at a pawn shop. If you buy from a store, you're going to pay the inflated cost. Anyone that tells you diamonds are an investment is obviously a diamond salesman. Diamonds are an artificially controlled market.

I used to buy rings from pawn shops for women. Just have them cleaned up and your set and cheap. Well not really cheap but a lot cheaper then retail.
