Was set on buying an 05-08 mustang gt, but ended up getting a good deal on an 06' GTO 6.0 Auto (daily driver) runs strong and way faster than I expected, but not faster than my mustang. Ive always loved these cars and respected them. I have no regrets buying the auto, it spins through first and second and sometimes chirps third.Very smooth and pulls hard in every gear. Badass cars! Anyone know of any good first mods, its bone stock. thinking of putting a K&N drop in filter for starters.

I would like to, but dont really want to effect the highway mpgs since its my dd. Are the computers sensative to mods like new mustangs are?

Long tubes and tune. Will be a respectable 30+ rwhp.

Full exhaust and a cam... Definitely get a set of tires on that thing. Goats are kinda squirrelly lol

Long tubes and a good dyno tune will wake up your car. If you want a good deal on a tune pm me.

are long tubes for gto's CARB legal?

damn, thought so.

are shortys worth it?

Posted by 1fast281 (Member # 4670) on :

A good tune which will remove torque management makes a huge difference. If you want to remain carb legal get tune, ported intake manifold and jba shorty headers. A K&N intake is also carb legal and a good mod although not the best intake, it's the only one which is carb legal.

Posted by 1fast281 (Member # 4670) on :

Before you start any mods I would do a good tune up. NGK TR55 v-power plugs, taylor wires and 160 degree thermostat. Then ported intake manifold and tune. Shortys and catted midpipe if you want to do exhaust and remain carb legal. Got any pics of your Goat?

Are headers easier to do than on a catfish or fire chicken?

I definitely want to keep it smog legal since its my dd. I dont know how to post pics nor have any good pics at the moment, but its phantom black, black leather interior and stock silver 17's with 245/45 Riken Raptor tires. It's a 9.9 out of 10.

Well aware, since they were introduced to the U.S in 04 as the come back car for the GTO. I have a badass 11 sec foxbody which will always be my first love and baby, but I respect american muscle (speaking of the LS2 engine) and the australian styling of the Manaro. I test drove multiple 05-08 mustang GT 5 spds aiming to buy one, but they were all turds, the only one that was fast was the automatic. But all in all I respect American muscle. [patriot]

yes I drove an 06 quick silver one w/red dash manual trans and a black one with an auto trans both at chase chvrolet both were still on the lot in 2010 since 2006 no one wanted them and neither did I. for the money... not worth it thats when I bought my current fox put close to 10k in it and it has out run every gto that I have come accros. with the gto still hovering in the 20k range for a clean one you have to put in alot of work in to make it quick

Mine ran 12.7 basically stock with a K&N intake and muffler deletes. What does a fox body run stock again?

I think 13.7's, what where GTO's running in the 1/4 mile during '87-'93?.....Oh wait, they didn't have them, that's weird.

that makes no sense, and stock foxbodys run in the 14's without slicks. You cannot compare the two, totally different cars in every way.

Exactly, like I said, I have my badass foxbody that is my race car with around 20k invested over the years, and I bought this as a nice dd because all the 05-08 gt's were turds. And I don't mind my little $280 monthly payment for this badass dd. [patriot]

Gto's are very decent cars for a decent price. nice interior, newer reliable car. I'd take one over most mustangs up to 2011.

If your race car has 20k invested and only runs 11's, no wonder you went to something else.. There is a turbo gto running around stockton with a shitload of mods. 1 being a turbo, to bad he runs mid 11's. 20k car + 14k in mods to run mid 11's. That has fail written all over it.

quick to be negative. I'm also counting all the money in parts that have been bought and later upgraded again. It is built for 10's, but it has a conservative tune right now because the 42lb. Injectors and mass air are maxed out. I only got to run it once with the new set up when my supercharger belt snapped at the end of the first run and had a horrible 60 ft. Everyone that day had shitty 60 fts, sac track conditions were slick.

lol that's why I said around, just an estimate. The short block 347 alone cost 4k, the TKO500 cost 2k, vortech s-trim kit, all supporting mods, suspension, brakes, wheels, gauges, exhaust, etc. All new parts. Yuuup, around 20k easy

Consevative tune, let's call it what it is. U been robbed if your 20k fox can't go 10s. I think racirx did a turbo build much less than that and went 9s. Just sayin

It trapped 126 mph so it has the potential with a better 60 ft. Just need the seat time. It's not like I took it to a shop and gave them 20k and said "here, make it a race car" lol. This is over time, every penny spent on everything over the years, including parts that didn't work out and are no longer on the car. If I started over and did it the right way the first time, then ofcoarse it wouldn't cost that much to get it in the tens. So if you guys wanna be sensitive about it, right now as of sits, it has about around 10k-12k in it if you want to be technical...Fuck... lol. I'm not a noob when it comes to cars, especially mustangs. And no I'm not mad lol

Thanks, it is, its come a long way, a lot of blood sweat and tears (literally) as the same with a lot of cars on this site. I don't discriminate over make, Hell I don't discriminate at all. I'm not ignorant, I grew up around and to love American musclecars. I'm not just a mustang enthusiast, I'm a car enthusiast. Hope I didn't offend any sensitive people here [patriot]
