looking for a truck and dont want brand new, but do want 2011 or up if its a ford. chevy is on the table but dont know them well. looking for an f-150/1500 4 door.

my questions are what do you think about the 5.0l engines in the ford. the 5.4 seemed to be shit back in the days with missfires and all that. i also looked at the 6cyl ecoboost but dont know much about those either. not really going to jump into anything until i do my homework.

You're not gonna find an ecoboost F-150 for cheap, the 5.4 was just fine drove one for years never had one issue and lol don't laugh I've been driving pretty much nothing but Ford since my 16th bday but since my accident I jumped into the Ram 1500 world and I absolutely love it. One thing that drove me away from the new F-150's is they are way way pricey and most of the crew cabs I looked at had the short ass 5ft bed totally useless. Also, I would much rather stick my thumb up my ass them buy a chevy but people I know are completely in love with them and rave everyday about the 5.3 V8 so they must be decent trucks.

I know what you mean I've never wanted a GM truck but I'll keep the option on the table. Sucks that the bed is so damn short on the ford though. I'm trying to stay 30k and under

My second choice if I didnt buy my 03 HD was a 2010 GMC Sierra or a silverado crew cab with a 5.3

Turbo diesel, power stroke or cummins, can't go wrong IMO.

I'd never buy a Chevy truck. One of my friends whos a die hard chevy guy bought a Dodge instead of a Chevy. My dad has a 1500 and it's had a few problems..... But it also wasn't taken care of by it's previous owner too well.
But Ive had enough go wrong while driving it to realize the Ford gods didn't like I was driving a Chevy LOL. I had the tow package break whe hauling a yard of concrete...... Then the same day after that happened, I replaced the bolts that broke and had an axle break on that trailer while full....... The whole fucking trailer wheel came off on hwy 80. [Eek!]

Like I said...... The Ford Gods don't like when I drive a Chevy.

Too much in my opinion brother keep looking. There are cheaper lower mileage trucks to be had out there.

+1. Cummins FTW. The 7.3PS were good, but are starting to get old (stopped them in 04?). Heard numerous horror stories about Ford's 6.0 and 6.4s.. And their newest motors 6.7s are supposed to be great.. But they come with a price tag. The duramax trucks are great too.

OP, have you looked into diesels?

No I haven't. Maybe if I come across one that is newer and under 30

6.0's and 6.4's are great if you dont have a tuner or chip, once you head stud them and egr delete there built proof.

IMO duramaxs have just as many problems as some 6.0, 6.4 and 6.7.

Yea I wouldn't be chipping it or anything like that. I just need something to go to the bar in, or saddlerack. Pick up engines and parts. Simple shit

If that is all you need you can get a brand new Ram 1500 with a Hemi for 20 and change.

yea, IMO a 7.3L powerstroke will be perfect.

great mileage
reliable as hell
will run forever
can run chips without doing anything else, and better mileage
can/will tow anything (if you have to)

Not trying to start an argument or anything but headstuds are $500ish in studs alone, not including all the gaskets... Plus all the labor to install them. 7.3 ps was the best of them I think.
I like the cummins personally only downside is the transmissions suck.
All diesels have problems, it's just what problems do you want to deal with.

the reason i am leaning ford is because i have been a tech at a ford shop and would be able to fix what i need. but i can do the same to the chevy as well.

i had to rebuild a hemi dodge truck engine 3 times because this idiot had a turbo on it. after yanking that shit 3 times i never want to see a dodge again lol
