Excuse my noob question, but I found a notchback with a 347 stroker in it... Are these pretty quick?? Most important how much boost can a block like this usually handle?

"This car has tons of upgrades it has a 347 stroker motor trickle flow air intake billet aluminum trailing arms cobra suspension and the cobra conversion disc brakes all the way around and its converted to 5 lug..i spend over 1300 for the rims and tires floor carpet headliner cobra floor mats ford cobra tach meter 5 inch with shift light optima battery.."

Thanks guys [Confused]

All a 347 is, is a 302 bored .30 over with a 3.4 inch stroke crank and 5.4 inch connecting rods. Yes, it's a good setup, a common one but still good.

For a daily driver I wouldn't recommend a 347 unless it's been built with drivability in mind.

Thanks TACH [patriot] so basically its going to hold just as much boost as a 302....right?

Posted by TACH2MX (Member # 9987) on :

If it was built for boost with forged/dish pistons then yes it will sustain more boost than a standard 5.0 liter 302.

What does this mean?

if both are built with a factory roller block that will be the weak link, not necessarily the rotating assembly.

Thanks capriman, makes sense. 347 stroker > H/C/I 302 ???

Is there anyway I can tell for sure if the car is a 347 stroker? I don't want to pay more for nothing.

no way unless you open up the motor to see the clearance cuts for the rods or pull the heads to measure bore & stroke.

ask him for paperwork on the motor.. what shop he went to , what machine shop .

No way of telling what so ever unless u dig into it like the guys up top were saying. If I were u I'd save my money and pass on this. No way of proving its a 347 besides paperwork if he even has any on the work done. To big of a risk if u ask me. Just my .02 [patriot]

Thanks guys [Confused]

to start the guy say he needs it gone asap first line, then at bottom he says hes in no rush cash is king blah blah. shit like that (as small as an oversight it may be) starts raising flags.
also he dosent have a price and you didnt mention how much you were gonna offer, what are you thinkin you wanna pay him??
it would be really hard for me to ever buy a built mustang unless,it was the deal of the century but that usually means problemas apparent or not, or knew the mechanic, or how good his work is and id wanna see reciepts for everything and then go check out the mechanic he used and possibly the machine shop
god forbid he bought the parts and put it together himself, id never trust it
anyways there u have it [patriot] good luck

this^^^ also that looks like my buddys old car, it is a very odd color for two people to have the same exact car and he did say somebody bought it from out of state, at that time it was a charged 302 provided this really is the same car.

nevermind i talked to him and see said someone from oakland bought it unless the guy from oakland sold it to the guy in vegas.heres a pic of my buddys car and i know the tail lights are different on the car you posted but the mis-matched door molding is the same on both cars so i dont know. he said the guy who bought his car looked like Little John if that helps LOL

I had a 347 10-1 daily driver. Never had an issue. As long as you spend the cash to get quality parts and assembly it right, there should be no issues.

Do I have a comprehension problem?

I'm not sure I do. I'm also not quite sure what you mean by 'built with drivability in mind', which is exactly why I asked what I asked.

If you feel like replying, I'd be interested to see what you meant.

I don't, you sure do though lol..

I'm talking about cam specs, piston size, compression ratio , is it built for a supercharger/ nitrous or will it be N/A.

Without knowing these things, you can't take drivability into prespective.

And also I have heard that 347's do not cool as well as say a 331. So I don't know if Id mob a 347 unless I built with my own specs in my mind.

My 331 LX notch with eagle forged guts(dish pistons 8.5-1 comp) AFR 185's, custom s/c comp cam and Paxton SN93, it made great power and had great drivability. But it was a very mild and streetable build that's because it was built with the street in mind and no crazy lift cam or compression.

I don't know this might be pretty crude but is it possible to take the first spark plug out and measure how far stroke falls in inches from tdc.. To bdc.. Compared to a standard 302. But piston heights may be another variable to keep in mind. These are just my guesses on how to, again how I said "crudely" determine something other than stock stroke. Let the pros chime in and school my ass. Or let the thread die from my sheer stupidity. [Smile]
