That's a clean build Redvert@7k !

Gas piston is the way to go, far more reliable than direct impingement. And can sustain constant fire far better too. Does it fit under the MOE handguard pretty good ? I've seen AA piston kits for $350 and they are a pretty straight forward replacement. The paint looks good too bro, kinda liven's it up a bit.

Im still working on my brothers build, we ended up returning the spikes carbine upper and went with a Palmetto State Armory midlength hammer forged upper. I'll post pics at a later date.

But anyhow Very nice build, what's your plan for sights/optics ?

Looks 10x better Scott. I was not a fan of ur old upper and I think I told u that when u told me u were gonna get it. And the OD green was Ok but I like to keep it all black! I am gonna spray my light back to black and just picked up a EO tech sight for it with the green DOT!! I'll post a pic with the sight this weekend maybe!!

Not sure but it's probably a 10/30, basically a 30 round mag body that only holds 10.

Or it use to be a 10/30 made into a 30. I ordered some PMag 10/30 mags and took the rivet out, now holds 30. [Big Grin]

You could do that or you can just order 30 rounders shipped to your door.

The Idea of gas piston is great for AR's. The only place to really get it right is Addax tactical with the help of PWS. Addax uses a long stroke style gas system(similar to the AK,AK uses a long stroke setup) which enables you to have less moving parts, less parts to break, more dwell time and pretty much zero bolt carrier tilt.

I like the gas piston setup but If I had to do it I'd only go with the Addax/PWS setup as to me with all of the other short stroke designs your pretty much "creating" a problem for yourself when nothing is wrong to begin with! unless your rifle will see mud or sand it has been proven time and time again that D.I. with a good size gas tube works great. If you have to run a GPU(gas piston upper) Long stroke all the way! if you are running a short stroke The P.O.F. Bolt roller is pretty much a "MUST" to help with carrier tilt.

One other thing to consider is Gas piston systems do add some load to your barrel decreasing accuracy so depending on your rife and what style of shooting you plan to do that may be a consideration!

To the OP nice Rifle!

Thats pretty much what I did, but being CA they either have a 10rnd stop or a 10rnd rivet. So if you get the one with the rivet, you can drill it out and not have to worry about a rebuild kit. But if you know of a legit place that can sell and ship 30+ round mags/drums to CA, fill us in! I didnt wanna play the "lemme ship them to a buddy in NV, then have them ship it to me" game, lol. Also it was buy 6 get 1 free on the website, so $120 for 7 30 rounders!! [Cool]
