Cobras are cheap now so it only makes sense to get one, i'll probably get one this upcoming summer and will pay cash for it, then save up for a 2010-2012 gt500 and trade + cash for one later on

Your young it would be more impressive seeing a young kid in a 2012 and Im sure you'd feel more accomplished in it... Plus mommy and daddy didn't buy it but that's what most will think regaurdless but atleast cafords will know you paid for it. Cafords opinion is all I worry about [Frown] I love you guys. I had a life before this website, with real friends.. now I just sit in the dark looking at a computer screen waiting for people to comment on my threads... They don't.

Life lesson -> Don't extend yourself to buy a car (and I have no idea if you are or you are not).

There's a lot of good that $30K can do to improve your life through education, investment, etc compared to buying a depreciating asset.

I live at home for FREE so payments wouldn't even be an issue for me. But like I've said before I ain't buying nor getting no loans without being hired as a regular employee(currently a temp). I think I figured it out you guys don't want a 20 year old having something you want. [Razz] Oh yeah mommy N daddy ain't paying a cent for my shit either. [patriot]

Agreed. I almost got sucked into getting an 03 cobra at 19 but its not worth working just for that. Im lucky my dad kept telling me not to and guided me.

Live within your means if you cant afford it, dont buy it.

I will probably not buy a new car for a long time because they depreciate so fast.

Sorry don't mean to sound ignorant but fuck education, I don't see why I would go to school when I always do bad in it because I choose EVERYTHING over homework. Also I have no real dreams N goals in life so yeah....

As stated above get some schooling while your parents are letting you live for free you don't want to be living at home at the age of 24 and just paying off your 03 cobra or 27 and just be paying off your 2012 5.0 that is now 7 yrs older you have to take into consideration that your young so insurance will be through the roof and gas will at least be $450 a month add that with a car payment $700 That's at least $1500, because they will probly charge a high interest rate because of your low credit score , and debt to income ratio and you have no debt so you have no proof you can't handle debt ,and yes banks want to see that you have debt and are making the monthly payments. So IMO go to school and pay for that it will pay off in the end or just move out and stop mooching off yo parents [Razz]

I feel like financing is easier said than done, just hope you have a good credit score and you're smart about looking over loans and reading everything, you don't want to get fucked over because of ignorance.

20 years old with zero credit, first job, living at home with a 4-6 year loan on a 23+(after financing), and a car with 450whp + those points for wreckless driving will be pricey with insurance and getting a loan might come with a high interest rate, I mean I'm just being honest unless you have another way to get by most of those issues.

after I turned about 25-30, Do you know how ingorant it sounds now to hear a kid say his parents didnt pay for shit, when they still live at home rent free? I never used to think that way. You will see...lol

What I would do is buy whatever I could afford outright, no financing, then move out and take a burden off my parents. if your 20 its time to give back to the people that carried your ass so long. No matter what they may say they want you gone and supporting yourself....lol

Set goals, even if a goal is to pass a class or two each semester. Once you've decided to go after something, then make the right choices, sacrifice some fun once in a while, and make sure you pass those classes. All about priorities.

Tempting, but don't spend time or energy worrying about which expensive car to buy at this point in your life. Get an education and don't look back.

You need better friends or a motivation structure in your life. Seems like you know all your faults and the repercussions. Yet you do nothing. Every year you stay out of school, makes it that much harder to go back. I am not saying school is the only key to the good life. But it is a proven stepping stone to such a goal.

I do not think he is saying what you are saying. Yes take it how you can get it, when the time arises. But he is right. In most areas in Cali, that salary is considered poverty level. Just a fact of life.

"A family of four in the Bay Area with two working adults must earn $77,069, equaling an hourly wage of $18.53, just to pay for basic necessities, a study released today calculates. If only one adult works, that figure falls to $53,075, largely because the family doesn't have to pay for child care, according to the report by the California Budget Project, a liberal Sacramento research group. But that one wage-earner must make $25.52 an hour"

Wow, that shit is sad. You dont realize this when you live at home with mommy and daddy until you're out there on your own. No education puts you on the wrong side of the fence, yes you can trump statistics and do better than people who have stanford degrees. But those occasions are rare, and if you have the chance to choose like you do right now Neight get a fucking degree before you dont have a choice and you have to work to survive.

Hey man get your hopes up. I've been wanting a cobra or z06 forever but necessities come first. I went from having an apartment to moving into a room in a house so I could stack for a house. After a year I bought my first home, all on 20$ an hour salary. Granted I had no debt at all. If you want it bad enough you will find a way to make it work.

This isnt a bad choice because you can save money in the service and by the time you get out you have the GI bill that will pay your way through college.

You have to be equally selective what branch and what you do while in there as well. My oldest brother retired at 39 from the air force, now has a cushy job at Lockheed which he is about to retire from as well. Paid his dues but has it easy as hell right now.

Take this lesson from me. GO TO SCHOOL!!! I took this current semester off to catch a breather but I'm pulling 70hrs per week at work. That's Mon-Fri so you do the math of how long each day. I make a decent penny doing what I do. I make more than most college graduates fresh out of school. Still I'm choosing to go back in the Fall and finish up. Then I'll name more than I do now with a lot less stress and qualit of life will increase. Since your at home still just mod your Foxbody and go to school/work. Your just wasting time not getting educated. No offense to mechanics out there but of all the one that I know 99% are broke. It's only money in it if you go in to bussiness for yourself or get a position at a big company or government agency.

Changing mustang brake pads on the side won't get you anything....

How can us college educated people get through to you ignorant self centered kids??? If you are living home for free then the money you should be supporting yourself with is being diverted to the car expenses. Why? becasue mommy and daddy allow it thats why.

are you so retarded that you think its better when you tell us you pay for your car and parents pay for rent than if you told us your parents pay your car and you pay rent?
same shit...... parents are paying your way which is pathetic if your over 18 and NOT in school.

I know you hate to hear this shit but you did post this thread, I hate it when I have my mind set on something and some asshose interjects a dose of reality. its happened to all of us man.

Buying a car to build credit is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. If you want to build credit you can do it cheaper by opening up 3 secured visa cards with 500 bucks a piece and keep them open and in good standing for 1 year. Then there, your credit is established. Building credit through some used car shark, buy here pay here, zales, and the diamond center is really idiotic.

Just cause you have money now doesnt mean these friends who are in school arent going to pass you up.

Just cause you have money now doesnt mean these friends who are in school arent going to pass you up.

+10000, once those broke college students graduate they're going to wonder why anyone chose to live their whole life at their parents over a FORD, while they choose foreign cars to daily drive from. [dance]

I remember making this kind of thread at svtp when i was 18 working at taco bell because i wanted an 03 cobra and i got chewed up and spat out and ran over about it and it opened my eyes big time. Some good advice in this thread.

I began going to college and building my credit up and working towards the future and now live on my own.. 100 times better than having a 2003 cobra sitting out in the street living on a tight budget because of it.

I would most likely slip into old ways, some may get what I mean some may not. But yall seem frustrated or something trying to get shit into my head. I honestly don't see much wrong on what I do with my life if I don't get killed I still got a lot of time to do what I need to to succeed in life.

I think you are missing the point everyone has mentioned. And in fact, basically everyone has the same message.

College is hit or miss. It depends on what u go to college for. Ud be surprised how many psychology, sociology, literature, etc graduates there are that are still bussing tables at applebees for minimum wages. On the other hand my best friend is graduating in may from SJSU with a degree in mechanical engineering, has internships with 3 different hvac engineering companies under his belt, and will start out making about 95k a year starting. He chose a career that is in demand and will make far more than I ever will. I am a full time auto mechanic and a part time night student at chabot college. My mentor/boss has been in business for 25 years and teaches me a lot about owning a small business which is what I want to do. I will most likely make more money doing this than graduates with degrees not in demand will.

I agree about being out on ur own. Being able to survive on ur own means being able to make the right decisions.

Thanks bro. My dad had 2 small businesses so I have picked up quite a bit, and I know how many businesses fail. But that's not gunna stop me or scare me. I was bred to be a business owner. I'm GOING to succeed and am gunna make a good honest living. Im a capitalist. I'm a greedy competitor who will out do the shop next door by offering a better service at a competitive price. That's how capitalism works and that's why it is so successful. If business owners weren't so greedy and didn't want everyone's money, then they wouldn't have any reason to offer quality services and products. I won't bad mouth shops by any means, I will just do what it takes to take their customers and let my work speak for itself. Economics 101 bro. Fuck.the.mother.fucking.world.

That's a good union. Can't outsource that. Unions in general have a bad name unfortunately. My dad told me about a buddy of his who worked at the GM factory in fremont. He would gloat about how little he had to work. He would slam 7 or 8 beers during lunch then go back to the factory. Then he would gloat about how many cars were failing and there was nothing anyone could do about it and how he had it made. The problem is that GM was raising prices while putting out shittier quality. My dads friend was completely shocked when they closed and moved the factory. If u make shit, and get paid like a king, something has got to give

If there is merit to this you need to re-evaluate yourself...there's a little more to life than owning a badass ride. I'd say if you really have all this money...go buy a house so you can have a place to put your rides...and stop crowding mom and dads place...

Not talking shit, but you talk about all the money your making and its taking you months to build a gt40 setup on your fox, its going to cost you atleast a 1000 a month to own a 03 cobra, so if your not comfortablely saving or putting a 1000 dollars into your car than you can't afford a new car. It's harder getting out your mama's house with a repo on your credit.

No one's talking shit, were just trying to give you advice some of us got or needed when we were your age, I think you should just fix up your mustang to the fullest, buy a little beater and save the rest of your money to either help your parents more, save for a house or even just a rainy day. Your only young once and it goes by fast, so do what you got to do now so you won't regret it later. [patriot]

That's what I'm trying to do but I don't wanna go all out on this block well because it's only good up to what, 500? Yeah I want something around that power maybe more without worrying about the block splitting on me. N saving for a house idk how much I would need to save up, plus before this thread I was seriously thinking about going to a auto school or take a course or something so I can do something I like to do instead of some bullshit ass job that you go to school for like 4+ years to do something you hate doing for a very long time.

i think this thread needs to be locked now. some of us are a little older, late 20s to mid 30s, so we've been there and done that. you're still young, feeling like you have all the time in the world and doing what you think is best. we all "knew it all" too. fact of the matter is that the truth hurts, you're young and you really don't know shit(no offense).

i won't preach what's already been said, but none of the things said will hit you in the face until you're a little older then you will see whats up.

let it be known that caford has warned you, lol. we tried to steer you straight, but you being "neight", stubborn as a bull, we can pretty much figure out where you'll be in 10yrs with an 80% accuracy.

btw, get what car floats you boat or tickles your fancy, our opinions mean shit as noted already.

the life jacket has been thrown to you and you refuse to use it. i say fuck it and swim on your own.
close thread, case closed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, plain and simple, ask yourself this. Do you really want to settle for less?

Plus if you do get either one of those cars you'll likely get a 5 year loan or more meaning if your 20 now then you might not be able to afford and live on your own until your about 25-27!!!! And i have a feeling that being 20 and living for free, you will not be able to afford a place if you were to have to move out of your parents houae.

Being 25-27 and still living with your parents is not a good thing.

This is VERY true. Expect the unepxpected dude. I dont think you'll be able to afford either car payment plus insurance/gas if something unexpected came up like having to move out on your own or what if you have a kid start a family or what not.

But then again i don't know what your financial situation is. But i have a feeling, that at 20 years old, its not pretty....

Hahahahahaha!!!

Living with mommy and daddy = No pearl

Theres nothing like being single and having you're own place. The ability to ask a girl to go your spot is nice and results in more play...

The whole motivation moving out of mommys house was this. And you might be getting ass at mommas house but trust me the quality gets better when its your own spot even if its some shitty apartment.

Go to school bro, take it from a fellow 20 year old who makes right between that poverty range these guys are speaking of. I have a stable job that gives me benefits and all that, I am grateful for my opportunity to make my $$. I have to pay bills/rent to help my moms out because she has taken care of me and 3 siblings since day one. I go to college at night after my job (40+hrs) a week and I love to learn but fucken hate homework. School ain't easy but as you probably would agree nothings impossible. Yea I have dropped classes, taken semesters off when the pressure gets hot but no matter what I'm right back at it the next semester cuz I KNOW it's the difference between having good options in the future and being forced to work at some shit job in order to survive. I have two cars, 1998 Silverado and of coarse a 89 5.0 [Smile] which I'm sure are cars you would also enjoy. Never bought a new car because I seen what it puts people through. My cuzin works at Dixon Ford Dealership and can hook me up on the new 5.0 for a good price but even then I'm wise enough to know not to even consider that yet. I Mod my fox slowly to keep my wallet in check and I still get that building a project feeling a lot of us on here love. Buying a new vehicle will simply limit your economic freedom man. Save and buy your cars cash until you get that REAL money. I'm sure your not asking nor wanna hear advise but I will give you my .02 anyways. Think about the things these older folks are saying. Dudes are old LOL they've already experienced the paths we have yet to travel. [Big Grin] [patriot]

By the way Skyline College has a good automotive program if you really wanna look into that. I also felt that was my calling a while back then realized it's just something I love to do. Working on cars is frustrating at times and hard on the body. But the staff there is good plus you can get Financial Aid maybe if you work the system lol. Just FYI. [burnout]

Working on cars is frustrating at times and hard on the body. But the staff there is good plus you can get Financial Aid maybe if you work the system lol. Just FYI. [burnout]

You sir, think and act exactly the way a growing young mature adult should.

Work hard, go to school, and know you're limits.

Thanks man [patriot] By the way there's always a way to get lucky at mommas house. [Razz] [Big Grin] Nothing wrong with living with the fam since we have the rest of our lives to be on our own.
