Mid to high 12's...At 3000lbs with driver and 300rwhp, it sounds like a good guess.

With a T-5 it would easily make 310rwhp

12.90's with traction

I told him low 13's to possible high 12's. Should trap in the 102-106 range. Maybe 265-280 rwhp.

Should be a fun little car. After it gets dialed in plans are to put a small nitrous kit on it. Nothing crazy...around a 75-100 shot.

Pretty damn close if not more. My wifes 67 non-roller 302 with eddy performer heads 1.6 rockers and performer intake with shorty headers and 2" exhaust made 265rwhp through an auto....the tuner only took it to 4500rpm too. If I had to guess I would think mid 12s

We took the car to the track with the previous motor. Ran a 14.79 at 87.7 mph....lol. It did 60 foot decent for the weak power. Did a 2.00!

stock 85 5.0 longblock...tired
stock 4 barrel low rise intake
Holley 600 vac sec
225/50/15 DR's

Posted by Chavez66 (Member # 9812) on :

I have the exact same setup as your boy except for a 4 speed Manuel, crower cam and Holley 650 double pump and my 1st time ever to the track I did a 13.8 while having cut out problems. That was an inexperienced driver that had never seen track time. He can Def do better then that. Hopefully I go back this year and get more track time and lower that time significantly

What was your mph?

He might get 13.8 @ bout 101/102mph then......small head choice too. Is the engine tired.....high miles?

I think I sold the rockers,Carb and heads to your buddy. These came off my 306 that was 10:1 compression and different cam. This was in my 67 mustang that weighted 3000 pound I had a toploader 4speed and 3.80 gears with a posi with micky thompson Drag radials and and Dyno 292RWHP and ran a 13.1

I'm not sure I need to check my time slip, But what I can recall it was not good I wasn't getting traction on the few runs I got I should of been able to get a 12.9 or 12.8.

Thats what I told him. Going to run good and be very reliable. Plans are to put a small nitrous kit on as well. 100-125 shot.

Posted by Slowback67 (Member # 6348) on :

I'll say after he gets his carb dialed in, gets his rear suspension set up correctly with DRs & gets his 60' down in the 1.70's He's gonna get a nice ET out of that street friendly combo.
High 12's like a 12.83 @ 103ish..... That's a conservative guess btw.

kinda crazy...that stall converter is a wild card.

WAY TOO LOW, so it might boil down to tires, cuz hes gonna bog HARD if he hooks...he'll need the tire spin to get the r's up

but too much spin and...well you know

im gonna say its capable of a 13.20-13.30@100 mph

but i think he'll run a 13.90-14.10 cuz its untameable

that converter (assuming its a GOOD converter) will flash about 2500 at best, probably more like 2300

its gonna hurt him with no power adder

Posted by 6D9 (Member # 7001) on :

Yeah we will see what its will do. I think its going to run easy 12's with a 105-108 trap speed.

Nitrous Bob the converter in the car was flashing 2500-2600 behind the stock 1986 carbed motor. Should flash 2800+ behind the 331. The 4r70W has 2.84 first gear so it feels like a 4.20 in a AOD. The car ran a 14.79 at 87.7 mph with the stock beat down 302...lol.

Its going to take a few trips to the track to get it dialed in. Not sure if he plans to strap it to the rollers or not.

Just noticed you guys didn't put the therm housing on before you put the intake on. [Frown]
If I have the intake off I always do it because that bottom bolt is a pain...... If you've never delt with it, you will soon find out.

I know its apples to oranges, but i have a HCI 302, afr 165's, e-cam, 1.7 rockers, tremec 3550, 3.73's, mt et streets, last time out it ran 12.8' at 106. this is in a 91 hatch and untuned, other than timing and fuel presure.

I'm planning on going with that same combination you have for my 90lx hatch. Just with 3.55's and a t-5.

I agree this set up should run easy 12's . Time will tell.

Wtf....I didn't see the updated post with the 331

I was basing the low flashpoint due to lower hp and not a heavy car

Yeah im saying 12.50's now about 108

This is what I am thinking, I dont know the C/R on my 302, but if it is running 12.8's this thing with some more cubes and that C/R should be solid mid to low 12's. the only factor i am unfamilar with is the auto.

I would say mid 13's n/a. Never know till you take it out there.

Not to say this setup is the case but lots of people think their cars can run twelves only to find out they have a 15 second ride.

Hope he upgrades the brakes before racing it. That's one tiny master cylinder in there.

Put a victor jr on that fucker and some 1.7s on the intake. Gonna gain 5mph if ur valve springs aren't junk or ur compression is in the toilet, which I doubt with a 3 1/4 stroke....

Posted by 6D5 (Member # 11709) on :

It has 1.7s already on the intake and exhaust. Brand new comp springs and everything. Motor was just built less than 1k mi on it.

What compression?

Ive got tons of customers close to 400lbs heavier weight with re ringed 5.0Ls and performer heads going 112mph plus......

Somethings up with that 331.

MPH too low.

What does is blow on compression tester at cranking?

Dan

Posted by turbo50 (Member # 6700) on :

Nevermind, I see your compression mentioned and the 1.7s.

Id work on dialing in that duraspark maybe and perhaps think about different cam and a victor jr.?

Less your happy with it.

Ok....I seen duraspark in the pics.

Play with timing curves in that msd dizzy, switch to a victor jr and put some more cam in that beast......

Less ur happy with it.

I'd see what it blows for cranking compression...

Posted by turbo50 (Member # 6700) on :

Now I see ur gonna spray it...that will wake up that lazy gear and converter...still gotta get a vic jr on there, specially with a nice plate system.

1.50-1.6 60fts and 150 shot.......be an animal

Posted by 6D9 (Member # 7001) on :

I agree the MPH should be up a touch. I'm thinking its the wide ratio gearset combined with 3.55 gears. The first two gears are low making it feel like 4.20's with a c4. Then it shifts to 3rd 1 to 1 making the motor work hard to get in the powerband.

Plans are for a simple, safe 100 shot. The 3.55's will work sweet on the bottle. The current converter flashes. 3500 on motor.
