Ok I'm here sitting at work and I'm now reflecting how much I've spent on my mustang and then how much I plan to spend..... I pull a crap load of hours per week.. Around 67 hours and I'm able to do it...I still buy other things and live my life. So how do some of you other guys do it? Any big ballers here? I'm a young guy so working is no biggie...

when I was at my other job, I used our employee stock purchase. Every 6mos I got a nice payout, paid off bills and bought new toys.

I miss those days [Frown]

Well, I'm a porn star on the side. Anytime John Holmes needs time off I get called up. It's strenius work, long hours, meet lots of new people!

Actually being a machinist has been ok. I get ops to design and make my own things often. I like to design and fab parts too, so that all comes in handy. On the side I do custom pinstriping and gold leaf work. That pays high, but not as desired as it used to be. A big shame, it's a cool art.

I know plenty of cats like that.. But I was referring to Mods more than the actual purchasing of the car... It took me a while to get mine but I did!! Now I'm modding it the same way. Hard work!!

I never understood that, I guess it's cause my parents were broke as hell and I wouldn't think to ask them for any help rather work and get it on my own but not everyone has the same maturity or moral level. Hell no I ain't perfect made a ton of mistakes in my life but no way in hell could I ask my folks for any kind of help if I was driving a nice ass car. For those of you young bucks on here who work to support your fam or our car hobby I commend you, you're definitely doing it right no matter how hard or low paying the job is.

When I want mods now that I know I don't need I sell stuff on craigslist, it's easy and free plus I can clean out my garage sell stuff to someone who may need it and take the cash and put it into my car or somethin I like.

Some of us on the site work our asses off. This week for example, i've been working from 6AM to Midnight every day and I'm still behind on work. You gotta know when to turn it on and when to enjoy your toys. There's always a mix because if you have too much of one vs the other your life just sucks in general.

Well put. I dont support my family since my parents grew up dirt poor and that has been their constant motivation when they immigrated 20+ years ago.

I do not ask anything from my parents when it comes to my car because thats just selfish. Bottom line is work hard and play hard because I love it when people ask whos car that is and I say, ALL MINE! [patriot] [burnout]

Hustle, one of those things were i fell into a couple of good deals on certain things wether it be gun purchases, cars etc where I bought and sold and the profit went into the car fund.

there were a couple of cars I did real good on where i buy it really low fix the problem or problems and sell it and get full market value.

to boot I would even take small personal loans to buy and fix these cars up and pay the loans off when the car sells and all the sudden you start to have good credit as well.

side jobs fund a lot of my stuff as well committing a few weekends here and there to make some serious side $$$ always helps, and I'll also throw out there that my win in Labor court against my old employer, bought lots of stuff!!!

Seriously Hustling has got me to where im at because it has allowed me to keep fun money and my real money separate, Getting a good job about 4 years ago also helped things. combine that with a very LOW mortgage which my Girl pays half ,kind of keeps me in a good spot! I'm not complaining!

Most, if not all, my "toy" purchases were funded off a hustle from way back...a $500 motorcycle purchase;). That $500 bike sold for $2000, then I bought another bike, traded it for a car, sold it, bought a new car, bought a new bike, etc etc. Essentially, my current "toy" (the Faleen) only cost me $500 [Razz]

As for parts, I work hard so I can play hard. I have a mortgage, 2 kids, and 2 car payments...so it's definitely not easy to buy things I want. I always make sure my priorities, bills, etc are handled before my hobbies come into play...this way, when i do get a chance to buy parts, toys, etc. i know i deserve it. Another thing that helps is that my wife works and makes much more money than me [Big Grin]

My parents only helped me out with co-signs, and all the funds came out of my pocket. I currently have a good job, and from time-time I would do side jobs. 1 of my friends would loan me some money(their idea) for parts, fuel, and/or refills, until payday. But when there's a will there's a way. Good luck to you, and don't get discouraged.

70 hour work weeks. And make 3 piles of money.

1- Savings (rainy day money you never spend)
2- Necessities (mortgage, insurance, groceries and gas)
3- Fuck off money (buy whatever the hell you want with this money I.E. cars, parts, toys or hookers). But when this money is gone don't dip into the other piles of money to pay for any of your "fun things"

No matter how much you make. This formula makes it easy to budget.

I work my as off everyday from 730-5 then school at night from 6-10 mind you my home and work are 1 hours distance from school. For me I need to just have enough to get to work and school take my girl out help mom out and pay for school loans. After I graduate and keep pulling in these 75 hour paychecks I'll be doing alright in my opinion

One statement i've heard before regarding key to success: "Do today what others won't... so you can live tomorrow like others can't..."

you can sleep when you're dead

one thing is for sure w/ these hobbies we can often get carried away w/ the spending and lose sight of what is priority. been there done that after screwing around w/ 9 stangs, many of which ive modified heavily over the 16 years ive been into the hobby.

worked my ass through hs once i turned 16 and throughout college and even took school loans to fund my car addition.

fast forward to today, a few more gray hairs and a bit more of adult knowledge and experience under my belt, im done through screwing up w/ cars and take on the normal responsibilities of any adult. multiple mortgages, a few dollar bills in the bank, a career, blah blah.

when we're young, we often are irresponsible, lose track of reality and do things hastily but at some point, you hope ull learn to be more responsible on the spending, actually saving $$$ and adjust the priorities accordingly....just a part of "growing" up. no regrets . words of advice.. dont overdo things like many by spending beyond your means and know that patience goes a long way in this hobby.

fast forward to today, a few more gray hairs and a bit more of adult knowledge and experience under my belt, im done through screwing up w/ cars and take on the normal responsibilities of any adult. multiple mortgages, a few dollar bills in the bank, a career, blah blah.

when we're young, we often are irresponsible, lose track of reality and do things hastily but at some point, you hope ull learn to be more responsible on the spending, actually saving $$$ and adjust the priorities accordingly....just a part of "growing" up. no regrets . words of advice.. dont overdo things like many by spending beyond your means and know that patience goes a long way in this hobby.

This man knows what he is talking about.

Umm just how it sounds... I would talk my buddy into getting some better flowing aluminum heads for about a $100-$200 more... No biggie tho. I'm not hating on your build at all so don't take it that way bro.... When you start tha bigt build hopefully you have some aluminum heads by then lol... As far as me touching it... I'm not too concerned. You have no idea what I have now or what I'll have by the time you start this huge build..... I personally don't care. Hope it's fast enough to out run a "Sports Car" since I'll have that by then
[Wink] if you catch my drift....

I went to school, put in my dirt and got a mild job work 40-50 hours a week.

Then I come home and work on other peoples shit to fund my car hobby and make sure my babymama dont have to work if she dont want to and my son can have a good education if he so desires.

I also put 5% into 401K and my company matches so its a no brainer.

Only thing that sucks and will soon be almost to a halt is that I dont get to spend enough time with my son but as soon as the side jobs I have now are out of here I wont be taking on as much work as I have been.

Man I wish I could say I have some toy to pay for. Sold my 93 cobra to buy a house. Helping my fiance pay for grad school at 4500 a semester plus putting 22% into my 401k leaves me broke as a joke. All that on top of paying for a wedding.
