Nice man. I just put side exhaust on my 03 F350. I bought a used tailgate and strengthed it, did bodywork on it and painted it. Looks sik too. The next mod is going to be a cross over line for my 7.3

EDIT: I got a DP-Tuner Chip and i get 20-24MPG higghway, 16-18 city.

I recently picked up an 03 6liter Excursion. LOVE IT! If something happens, the repairs aren't too expensive with my support staff.

No better vehicle than a diesel Excursion for familes of 5+ imo!!!!

Posted by 93sspCOUPE (Member # 8418) on :

yea we had the excursion it was sick but too many engine problems. i just bought my wife a 11 expedition eddie bauer she loves it. and its easier on her our excursion had a 9" lift on 40's so hoping in it was not easy

I was looking to get an Excursion, i have always loved the Crew Cab pickups but they were just too expensive and Excursions were cheaper plus its just a bigger Explorer which i had but then i got a good deal on my Crew Cab 7.3 that i couldn't pass up.

Compare an Exploder to an Excursion, LMFAO. You're nuts Dana! A diesel Excursion is NOTHING like a bucket Explorer. Only similar things are they start with E and are made by Ford. Explorers are cheap P.O.S.'s!

shit i get 8mpg in my 460 on a lift with 35s [Frown] [Frown] damn big blocks [Mad]

Posted by Bent70 (Member # 9694) on :

I'm at a crossroad, either dump 2g's into a steath pump, stage 1 injecters and new tunes or get rid of my 7.3 for cummins.... [Frown]
My truck was having electric brake issues this weekend so i took my brothers 05 cummins...tows so fucking nice, quiet and the 6 speed is so nice.
To bad i cant afford to sell my truck for one.....id do it in a hart beat.

Posted by 93sspCOUPE (Member # 8418) on :

my boy scott just put a cummins in his 7.3 ford its a common swap and isnt vety hard to do. picked up a longblock for $800

Posted by Bent70 (Member # 9694) on :

Thats cheap...i have looked at doing the swap too in the past but in the long run for me it wouldnt be worth it. I think the setup i'm looking at will put me at 400-450hp. My main issue now it my tunes are to dirty and run like shit in the tahoe hills.

Posted by Bent70 (Member # 9694) on :

You need to trade in the 09 for an '11 or '12. People are getting 18+ mpg on those.

Posted by 98z28 (Member # 8408) on :

I worked for ford for 3 years an I will tell you 7.3 is simply perfect truck! The new 6.7 is probably the best truck ever made on this planet, driven it love it, took one to the race track an showed people how to do a 1/4 mile burnout!! LOL.. but cost like $60k..

no thanks! a deleted and tuned 6.4 will always be far superior to a 6.7 deleted and tuned in every category. and to me the new trucks are not the greatest looking. i payed 50k for mine new and i dont plan on needing another truck for atleast 10 years

you plan on gettin it dynoed after the mods are done? I've heard the 6.4s still have the stretching head stud problem under the more radical tunes... have you looked into that at all?

Posted by 93sspCOUPE (Member # 8418) on :

im just running h&s tunes the 300hp tune is about as far as i wanna push it when you get into the spartan 345 or the rcd tunes and innovative that are over 300hp you start getting the heads to lift. but i havent really heard anyone except for the spartan guys lifting heads and the truck puking coolant. i think weak hud studs were more of a 6.0 problem. but i dont really know too much about the diesel stuff i just know what people are using and whats working the best for them.

Anything to look for when buying a 7.3? I'm in the market for a new truck, but I don't know much about them except that they are pricey. How much did you get your 03 for?

Ps sorry for he thread jack [Big Grin]

I was just comparing their looks. An excursion is just an explorer on roids with a bit more stretching in the back

The last good looking one was 05' then they gave the front end the "short bus" look flipping the headlights and whatnot. The nice interiors are night and day from my 99' lariat.

For a used 7.3 ask for maintance records, oil changes, tranny, cps sensor, unit bearings and look at the radiator fluid for oil. Exhaust should not have blue or white smoke when reved at running temp. Mines at 160k and prolly broke in at 100k. Don't be afraid of a 200k engine as long as its been maintained and not a premium price.

I have changed my tranny at about 140k, but I got the truck with 120k on it and drove it like a rally car in the city and windy roads to berryessa.
Went with a bts tranny and never looked back. You guys who have autos behind your 7.3's change to a 6.0 tranny cooler if you haven't yet. Mine will not get over 145* pulling 8k lbs over the sierras or Tehachapi Pass.

Looks cool except for it being white, the rims not matching and it looks like the bed front of the bed and the rear of the cab are sagging. I'd go look at it if your interested.

just got my parts installed all i can say is wow! when this 8000 pound truck starts getting sideways at 60 mph thats scary haha im totally impressed so far. but i must say the mild setting is my favorite cuz it actually gets traction and doesnt defuel. i have my defuel settings set

egt's at 1400 deg
boost 38 psi
coolant 210 deg

the egts with it off went all the way to 1770 and i dont feel like melting shit lol. but other than that truck isnt as loud just normal driving which im happy about and its very tame till the boost hits

What does the sag indicate, frame damage or anything?

mounts for bed/cab could be bad or someone put too much of a load in the bed.
