One of ma friends has a completely stock camaro SS and he wants to set up a lil race against ma 97 cobra, jus wondering what the outcome might be before hand haha. Ma cobra has 4.30 gears, BBK cold air, underdrive pullies, and a bassani X pipe. Were prolly going from a roll since neither of us have gud tires right now, so what u guys think?

I say you do it from a dig...your 4:30's will help you get out in front quicker...i think the SS has a lot more power up top so racing from a roll will almost surely guarantee him a win IMHO...good luck though [patriot]

Just run those gears out and don't let him get a jump on you, RPM is where you make the most power so use it all and you should get him. I ran a lot of cars in my 96 and it was quick. I get away first and like they say, the chase is the race.

I had a mostly stock motor, it was rebuilt with H beam rods and forged pistons but everything else was stock. I did have a cold air intake, long tubes, exhaust and 4.10's. I would run it right up to high 6 to low 7K. Take your car out and do a few runs with it, run out your gears till you find the RPM where it starts falling off and then you'll know exactly where to shift to keep in your power band.

If and only if you rev the fucker out and are cat like reflexes on your shifts it'll be neck n neck to 120. After that he'll float past you to 145. Lol and he'll get 26mpg all the way home in 6th gear.....

if you're a good driver, you can take him from a dig or a slow roll from 10-15mph. once you get pass 95-100pmh, he'll catch up quick to you. from a 50-60mph roll, he'll eat you up.

Never underestimate LS-based motors. You're talking 310-325 stock pre-LS6 intake and maybe a 6th speed.

Yea he wants to do a slow roll, prolly 15mph and I believe I got better tires than him so maybe I can pull on him early

Depending on how bald your tires are with 4.30 gears you still could spin from a slow roll. But the gears is the only advantage you have. So your best chance is from a dig. I just hope you can hook. Good luck.

those gears ain"t gonna make a bit of difference really, The Ls1 has a shitload more power and torque then a 97 cobra. If anything, from a roll those gears are gonna slow you down. I got the ls1 to pull 3 cars on the cobra..

im just livin in reality, the lsx's > mustangs except for 03-04 cobras and the new coyote motor. unless the mustang is heavily modded of course. i like mustangs too but lets be realistic....

Not quite. You could buy a chevy. But some people might not like the body, the comfort of a car, the way it rides. Power is not the only attributes of a car that people enjoy.

Fox body 15 sec car, ls1 13 sec car stock for stock.

I went 12.9 in my 98 cobra with stock gears an minor bolt ons, Ud pulley's, OR H pipe, CAI, short shifter an king cobra clutch. O an some gay ass purple Lowering springs I forgot the name of them.

In your current state, the other guy has the more capable car. The LS1 will likely trap 2-3mph faster than your Cobra but the gap isn't that large that it can't be overcome with traction and good driving.

To close the power gap, a catback, short runner intake and a tune will do the trick and put you around 300rwhp

Car n driver did a comparison the ls1 has hard time off the line. But it trapped 3 mph faster and 25 hp isnt much more u make that up with your pullies and intake.
