Im a fifty man looking to get into the 4.6 scene...I know the cobra has the charger, but which has more potential as an everyday car? I plan on a few bolt ons here and there, but nothing too major...I pretty much just want a car that's quick, and loud...So I was interested in everyone's input.

cobra is the better bet. Or buy a mach 1 and put a procharger on it.

im sure a lot of people are going to say if you have the money get a cobra.

+1. Id say cobra but i love the mach's also...and if you can throw on a pro-charger with a good tune on the mach that wont blow the engine you'll be set and have no regrets. then you can do some easy weight reduction here and there and be under 3300 depending on what you do. I believe they weigh 34xx stock? might be able to get it to 3200's [burnout]
but you can also get a cobra into the low 11's pretty easliy if you can drive [patriot] or with some practice like I needed haha d'oh

also I think we could better answer the question based on your budget , and what ideally youd like to do/get out of the car [patriot]

Well an 04 mach 1 and 04 cobra have about a 7000 dollar difference in price, which is not a big deal for me... I know the cobra is basically all you can get out of a stock mustang in 04, but the mach1 has its own history and is capable of being quick...I'm trying to get back into the mustangs, because I miss when I had the fifty people would come up and admire the car and notice the little things, like why I had chrome ponies and not 22 inch rims. You can't get that out of most cars nowadays, especially imports! Can I get the same out of the cobra and mach1, and is the cobra worth the extra 7 or so thousand???

I went through the same dilemma...found a cobra with 50k and a Mach with 17k...price diff wasn't much seeing as the Mach had warranty and was at Hayward Ford and cobra was private party......although I regret not having the ability to make easy power with forged internals stock, I don't regret anything else about the choice I made...I love when people dont know what it is.....and I see way more COBRAS daily then I do machs...IIRC they made less machs then cobras...

Nothing a short block and blower can't fix.... I love my Solid rear end aswell, fragile half-shafts and the IRS scare me... [patriot]

COBRA if your worried about the rearend just upgrade it or get a SRA.

Posted by Mach916 (Member # 8264) on :

if money isnt the problem..then get the cobra.but make sure to get the compression checked..these cars have alot of issues if not taken care of right..

Posted by iceman302 (Member # 7180) on :

From a former Mach 1 owner, buy the Cobra. There's nothing wrong with a Mach 1 but the Cobra is on another level with it's performance potential.

Damn I know if I could shit money I would for sure get a cobra and 7k seems like 500 to u so get the cobra over the Mach 1 in my opinion.

Here's my take on it...
If you're looking to eventually reach 600 RWHP, go with the Cobra. If you're fine with 450 RWHP, go with the Mach 1. This assuming you keep the stock block in each. Either way, you can't go wrong. I got a Cobra because it was a really good deal.

All I have to say is FREE POST! [Whoo Whooooo!]

this had to be a joke, if its not GET A COBRA. Same mods are available for both vehicles but the cobra comes with better trany, Supercharged etc etc. If you have a budget and the Cobra is out of your price range well then the Mach 1 is a great car and you can make it fast!

Good LUCK

I have owned both...hense the screenname and current sig! I loved the mach but COBRA ftmfw! once u go termi you never look back...here are the specs to look at

03-04 cobra...

built forged cast iron shortblock!
6 speed transmission
aluminum flywheel
factory supercharger
cant beat the looks of the cobra as far as exterior and interior!

only downfall is the IRS (for drag race but rides WAY better) but there are tons of people that would trade u the SRA for the IRS! so no big deal!

03-04 mach 1

factory SRA with 3.55s
still has the good heads
aluminum block
looks pretty clean! mine i continued the black stripe across the roof and trunk, s281 wing and saleen wheels! DSG best color!

ummmmmmmm for those people who say just add a blower, NO! i blew up 3 stock motors with my vortech! ran hard made close to 450rw and hooked hard on stock suspension! ran mid 11s! but couldnt afford the 10k plus to build the motor to hold boost plus the 6k i spent on the blower and supporting mods!

choice is clear! TERMINATOR

I would buy a Cobra. Mach1's are great, but you will probably end up wanting more power. By the time you upgrade the rods, pistons and transmission to handle the power that a stock Cobra can handle the price difference will be gone. That's not even counting the blower to make that power.
