You can go to any Vet to do it. I would not have a non-vet do it for the dogs sake.

IVE BEEN CALLING VETS ALLDAY. FOUND ONE IN MOUNTAIN VIEW FOR $1000 I ONLY PAID 250 FOR MY DOG

Posted by Yaterstang (Member # 7659) on :

dont do it, dogs need their ears man. plus it will be in a lot of pain, not worth it in my opinion.

Posted by essasin (Member # 4741) on :

The reason why it's expensive because they need to put the dog under, require a post op, and may need pain medication afterwards. Even if you spent 250 dollars on a dog no money is worth the pain of a botched surgery. I would question anyone who would do it at a significantly lower price.

Besides I am sure your dog looks good already without the cosmetic work. Who cares if some snob bitch looks at you and asked why your dogs ears are not clipped. Your dog is happy the way he/she is and your wallet is happy. It's a win win situation.

I dont believe in ear croppping. Its cruel and if done wrong (cheap) is very painful for the dog. Now you not feeling the pain you may not care, but for the dog thats a whole other story. Post a pic of the dog and lets see. If for some un godly reason you still proceed SPEND THE MONEY to have it done RIGHT. Just my .02

Posted by bottled95GT?? (Member # 1772) on :

Hell no, that pic looks perfect. Leave its ears alone. Plus cropping the ears if you didnt know can harmful effects later down the road. ie: fleas and especially ear infections. You think a grand now is bad, imagine the costs of ear infections over its life span due to the more than normal amount of dirt, dust, etc thatll now be able to get into its ears.

Leave the pups ears alone . He has good lookin ears.

Leave it alone. Cropped ears look horrible & is cruel IMO. The dog looks good as is IMO.

dont do it my couzins dog died at st luis..both my pits got their ears...+1 for leaving the ears.

Fuck cutting its ears, it looks badass with them. If dogs were supposed to have their ears shorter/cut they would be born like that.

All dogs react different fellas. I'm not too sold on the idea that its cruel iether. My dog had his ears cropped at 8 weeks and he never had any issues besides keeping the stupid cone on his head in one piece he would run into things constantly but it didn't seem like he was in pain, but then again he's always happy.

Pitbulls will never show pain. Its part of the breed, they can hide it with the best of them.

@ 10 weeks - - +1 for st. louis in oakland!

He does real good work, he had a whole litter of dobermans from arizona when my dog was there. Keep in mind the heavierr the dog the more he charges. So if your going to do it, do it sooner than later.

At first when the stiches & bandages are removed it looks real raw and tender(nasty).

But after it heals it looks nice. Dobermans are also a favorite for me but I cant.

Holy shit i agree, how is that cool?! That dog looks like it got fucked up in a fight with another dog and lost its ears.

I own 3 pitbulls, and none have cropped ears. Think about it, you crop his ears, the ear can't flap over to cover anything that tries to go in, so ur sacrificing the ears functionality just because it looks 'better.'. I'd leave them alone, besides, I've always thought they crop them to make them look meaner, if ur gonna pay 350 to get a 'nice' crop and another 250 for a pit, buy a real pit for 500 who looks mean enough w/o a crop.

Posted by 8stang8 (Member # 8082) on :

Her dad!

 -

To the O.P. another thing to keep in mind is the "show cut" they remove the excess skin at the bottom of the ear, gives it a nicer contour than if it wasnt removed.

Could just be trying to listen. The chances are small for them not stand back up unless the person doing the cropping isnt experienced. I was scared of that happening to my dog.

Leave his fucking ears alone is what you should do. You want your dog to look "cool"? It's not a fucking stang that you can mod when you want. Fucking stupid.

+100 it's not a modded mustang. While your at it cut the rest of it's stumpy tail off too, that doesn't look cool either.

It isnt for all dogs. Most dogs that get there ears croped are pitbulls and dobermans, the majority. Some come out looking like crap and others come out looking real nice, depending on the "type" of pit bull & person performing the cropping.

Bully breeds for example, the short and stocky breed are known for big heads 20 plus inches over 80lbs. Those are the kind that most people get taken to vets for cropping.

A normal american pitbull terrier, energetic, with lots of stamina, and tall. Are not usually cropped or as popular to get cropped as the bully breed or doberman.

Is you brothers pitbull a bully or papered?

my honest opinion, i like them better cropped once they get big but i dont think i would be able to take my dog to get it done. i would have to buy one with em done already

Posted by foxstang (Member # 7447) on :

i think it depends on the dog...mine had pretty small ears so i dont regret not doing the crop. but theres some dogs that have big ass ears that look ugly. after a year my boy's ears didnt grow much...

you and your boys pits are my favorite bullys ive seen so far, cropped or not i love pits, its actually not that bad for them but i could understand why some people wouldnt want to do it....I like the cropped look personally but my pit right now doesnt have his ears done..As long as its done right and when the pups young i dont see any problems with it.

I guess thats why Pitbulls get a bad rap, the owners think its "cool" to have them look like killer dogs.

Honestly that dog has no say in if it wants its ears cut or not its not making him a better animal or helping society.

I don't know if it's just me but i don't consider bully breeds a real pitbull. Pitbulls have always been sub 60lbs lean, muscular with tremendous agility not big and bulky.

Good choice on the ears, the dogs that were pictured on here look like total shit in my opinion and it's not worth the money and most importantly the pain the dog goes through. you have a nice looking dog and he will look mean enough when he is older...

I'm sorry blackfifty, but that doesn't make much sense. Its like saying a certain race of people are built and athletic when all races have different body types.

I'm not comparing an animal to a person, but more like trying to prove a point. I'm Portuguese and there are fat people, skinny, buff, ripped, athletic, etc. Depends on the person's genes.

Same thing applies, its in the dogs genes that say what kind of build he'll be. Doesn't mean just because he's 80+lbs, that he isn't a pitbull

yea i know what you mean bro but originally pitbulls were small and now a days they look more like napolean mastiffs with big heads and inward feet. I guess i'm just used to seeing smaller breeds of pitbulls [Confused]

I do it because to me it looks best! I get the show dog ear cropped size! Standard at dog shows so why not! I dont believe it has a medical purpose!

My Aunt and Uncle have a pittbul that loves to shake it toys and he has poblems with his ears from it. That would be the only medical case I know of for getting them cut.

See N8 you gotta have the "look". It doesn't "look rough n' tough with ears, so chop them off. The dogs would "look" tougher if you chopped off the tail too because a wagging tail doesn't look tough to me. Wagging tail means it's happy and that won't scare would be criminals. [Eek!]

DAMN [Eek!] Thats kinda fucked up to say [Roll Eyes]

Anyway, I agree with the NO CROPPING of the ears. The dogs look way better WITH their real ears. Only thing I'd do is dock a docg's tail if its the appropriate breed.

Hopefully you have not reproduced yet. So the stupidity will hopefully end with you.

I mentioned this to my vet yesterday as I was taking my dogs in for a check up. And he said this is a highly frowned upon practice. And that chopping the ears actually can have a adverse affect. The dogs ears and the ability to moved them helps ward away mosquitos and other bugs that bite. These bugs might in turn might carry harmful disease. And cutting away the ears exposes sensitive tissue that may have otherwise been covered and protected by the extra ear tissue that dogs use to essentially swat away pests.

Instead of trying wasting money on trying to make your dog look "mean and cool," why not spend some money on some hi-performance dog training...this dog OWNS all your dogs [Big Grin]

Now that is much "cooler" than mangling your dogs ears. Imagine having a pitbull that can do cool tricks instead the looking "cool" sitting there.

I think it all depends on the breed of the dog, My dobermans ears are cropped just like 99 % of them out there its just like when their tails get cropped as well. Also ALOT of Vets will NOT do cropings so it is hard to find.

You can go to any Vet to do it. I would not have a non-vet do it for the dogs sake.
Not all vets do it. Only some vets/pet hospitals can crop ears. In Sacramento there is a place off watt ave. They do a good job and it cost about $650.00. I got my dobermans ears done there.

Getting a dogs ear cropped it's a lots of work it could take several month for them to stay up!

I say I did it because it looks bad ass! And makes my Doberman look evil. I was also told something about water in there ears???? Cropping could help??? Not sue I could be wrong!
