So yesterday I am having a convo with a 03-04 cobra owner and I comment that a 460-470rwhp Foxbody will destroy a 480rwhp 03-04 Cobra and the Cobra owner said that because the Cobra has 10-20 more rwhp that it would walk away from the foxbody! [Confused] Some Cobra owners have no fuckin clue! they really think their car is touched by the hand of god or somethin lol! [Big Grin]

This is exactly what I was getting at with my other post. Its probably the same guy that was giving me the "Cobratude". He couldnt fathom that a solid axle foxbody could run circles around his car at a road course.

Depending on which model, options, & weight reduction, the weight difference can be anywhere between 400 lbs-700 lbs difference with the fox being the lightweight.

My H/C/I coupe with the only weight reduction being smog pump delete, ac delete, & aluminum heads weighs in @ 2,975 lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas in full street trim. An 03/04 Cobra coupe weighs in @ 3,665 lbs in full street trim... So thats almost a full 600 lb difference, which is HUGE imo...

I love the smoothness, comfort, & handling of the newer Stangs, but I'd always love to have another Fox. Terminated Notch would be the shit! Best of both worlds!
But anyways, so who's the Cobratude dude? lol!

As a Cobra owner I hate to hear stories like this I'll admit I wouldn't trade my 03 for anything but damn compared to the other stangs I've had these things are heavy as hell and for someone to tell you 10 HP will be the difference in a race with a significantlly heavier car is F'n stupid, some people lay down cash start the car and think they know everything!

I hope you told him the truth,I had a guy in another 03 couple weeks ago tell me how stock our cars will beat anything out there I kindly reminded him that we have 4000lb cars and there are Z06 vettes all over the place.

Bwahahah here we go. That was me talking to Damani @ the picnic. I was talking about a 350 rear wheel fox with a 100 shot making around 450 to the wheel. Which is basically my. Buddy DTB's car. If you ask me it would be a pretty close race against a 470-480 wheel termi.

But there is no way a same power fox and cobra would run together. Simple physics and power to weight ratio would give the fox an advantage. Even 30 or so hp less would make it a drivers race. The same way you see 250 hp civic hatchbacks walking away from SS camaros. I may love my cobra, but that race wouldnt even be up for debate.

Damn you guys are still at it ,let me try ,if it came down to just how fast you want to go you would have to pick a fox over any other as a base, if you want a modular motor ,put it in a fox ,because of weight ,or a pushrod motor ,what ever powerplant you pick you would have to pick a fox, that is if you were a true racer and wanted every bit of horsepower to work for you and let's face it even some chevy guys pick the fox as their base for a race car and throw a chevy base power plant because its tried and true race car [Razz]

I ran an 11.9 allmotor in my fox and it has 330 rear wheel horsepower, so i don't even think it would be close with a 450 fox [patriot]

i wont lye cobras do move but like 50 reasons said the fox is the way to go like its always been. 03 04 cobras are cool for a nice looking fast car out of the box but me personaly that takes the fun out of it.. what happened to the weekend racer who worked on his car building it to say that he did it just for that time slip.now a days you can just go to any car lot and buy a cobra and go to the track wheres the fun in that.

I'll take my slower Fastback over a newer cobra or vett
anyday. Plus how often do you see a real nice old car on the road?

I own a Cobra and I'd be the first to say that these things are pigs! If it takes your fox 330rwhp to run 11.9s, you know how much hp it takes us to reach 12.0? 465-470rw. The other day at the track, a dude was pushing maybe...490-500rw in his cobra with his Stegg ported blower and doing 11.8. So yup...Foxes are def the better route for the true racer.

+1... plus on the "street" you can race from a dig, a slow roll, freeway run... whatever. the strip is either 1/8th or 1/4 runs... where traction is key, and a slow car with a good driver, tire and gear can walk a waaay "faster", or more powerful car.

if anything, i think running at the strip ends up breeding more "bench racers" than street racing... people all love to claim what they run at the strip, or what they can trap and that indicates what they SHOULD run, and whatever blah blah blah... but when they get caught at a stoplight, or on the freeway... the bullshit stops

A slow car, with a good driver and gear and traction will still walk a faster car from a stoplight. Freeway runs are pointless, as I dont do 160 on the street, for fearing of killing someone else.

If you dont know how to set your car up for traction, maybe you shouldnt invest in more horespower but in a proper suspension to handle said horsepower. Z06's generally dont have traction issues, even on the street....

I remember when we use to race out of Burger King in Livermore, people would get laughed off the lot for the "freeway run" or "slow roll". Some guy brought a supra out and had to do that because he couldnt spool a turbo from a dig. He got laughed at so bad and never came back.

Also, by definition, if a car is getting walked on its not the faster car, Even if its because of traction. Improper setup of your car slows it down.

Getting beat by a fox that has traction, I am sure the more powerful car would drop the excuse of "Well if we raced from a 90Mph roll with a strong headwind, I would have had his ass"

Or in the words of Paul Walker to Vin Diesel "Dude I almost had your ass!"
