Aside from the fires/wildfires injury/Chugs hospital stay/ all the guys with new rims, its my turn.

Ive been an athlete all my life. Soccer since 4 until 18, baseball as mvp catcher (no jokes ya fu*ks) for 8 years, basketball 7-16, and hockey from 13 - current (26) Ive played hard for years, numerous injuries, shoulder surgery at 19, etc.
About 4 months back I injured my left knee again* playing hockey, i waited a few weeks (typical sports player) before seeing the doc. He said its my weight etc etc Any of you that have played sports and injured your body; you know the difference between a "normal" injury and something much more. Well I argued and plead with my doctor to send me out for and MRI and a specialist since the xrays showed nothing.

That eventually happens and turns out i have a cyst, fluid, and tear of my MCL in my left knee. Not to mention degenerative (sp?) issues that were getting worse since my 2001 mri that i was never told about. Did 1 round of cortisone injections, the relief was GOLDEN and lasted just 5 DAYS. With that now im heading down the surgery path.
Im honestly scared about having my knee scoped and repaired. Time off work is hard, luckily i have 2 weeks vaca still. But Im 26 with a 2 year old. Im tired of the constant pain but scared of a knife to my knee.... My shoulder was one thing, my knee is quite another. What do you guys think.

Get the operation and let your body recover before you even think about sports. Do all your physical therapy and see how your doc and your body feels.
My job and a paycheck is more important then playing any sports.

Just have the surgery, then eye rehab/physical therapy. If you are anything like me you will make the adjustment and play sports again. But you have to put in the the rehab work and know your body.

I wouldnt say hang em up just yet. I have had some pretty bad injuries as well and I am quite a bit older than you with more kids, so you could possibly still play. I am a athlete as well always have been, my college days and glory days are behind me for the most part. But athlete to athlete I feel your pain. Basketball and boxing is therapeutic for me these days. I would go nuts without it. And I have a phobia of being out of shape and fat. JUst make the adjustment and go above and beyond to take care of your body and you should be golden.

Sorry so long, but good luck.

dude get the surgery its well worth it, I play hockey as well ( btw were are you playing at? ). Knee surgery now is so much more advanced then it used to be, hell my wife had her knee scoped and she was walking that night. It will be a recovery process but as long as you bust your ass at physical training and recovery you will be fine. How did you bust it doing hockey btw?
