Oh its gonna happen. All it takes it 1 hyfe goon the throw that match on the fire. The mob mentality is no joke. I witnessed the LA riots first hand. It will prob be some dumb ass out of towner that will set it off.

So that being said who here really thinks that Mehserle did it on purpose. Personally I think it was a horrible accident and he did not maliciously shoot him in cold blood. I just cant see a Husband with a baby boy on the way with a great job, throw it all away because Oscar was giving him a hard time. Not to mention countless witnesses. It just doesn't make sense to throw it all away like that.

Being a cop has to be ranked among the highest thankless job ever. Not taking sides, but ya'll think about what you are saying, when you say the cops don't do shit. You hate em when they are there, but you will miss em when they are gone (layed off). Few hundred people spread across thousands sometimes a 1 to 25 ratio. Its rough, it has to be. And yes there are bad ones. But they are the minority. And no I am not a cop...lol

Interestingly, based on this article it has not yet been decided whether the jury is to decipher between 2nd degree and acquittal OR have the latitude to choose anything between 1st degree and involuntary manslaughter. Judge Robert Perry is to decide jury instruction on Wed (tomorrow). This was news to me...

I find it very difficult to believe that cold blooded 1st degree murder was committed here in a crowded Bart station with dozens of riders and several police officers looking on. On the other hand a man is dead, but that is why we have involuntary manslaughter however.

As far as riots go, I think there will be some amount of disruption regardless of the outcome. The rioters typically fall into two categories. There are some individuals that are genuinely upset and see this as a way to release their feelings about a particular event our outcome that they believe is an injustice. Then there is the "riff raff" that is just looking to stir the pot and fishing for the smallest excuse to cause trouble and be entertained. And of course there are those that fall into a combination of both categories.

I expect an involuntary manslaughter charge and some minor riots around the Bay and it will be behind us. But I've been wrong before...

It is sad, but like I said this is remnants of the 60's where things were never corrected. Cops are policing people that dont give a rats ass about them on a whole scale. But this will have a financial spill over effect on all Californians. Well I know one thing, I am so glad I didn't open our studio up downtown like I had initially planned.

First off i think its fucked up what happened to the 4 cops in oakland, I don't think no one should be rioting when the verdict comes down. but here's the difference, police know what the risks are when they sign up for the job, the police are there to protect and serve the public, not shoot someone in there back who is unarmed, drunk on new years doing what the police tell you to do, and that is if your going to drink take bart, yea was oscar grant probably a little out of hand that night(maybe) but then as a police do your job and take him to jail, not shoot him in his back. And the when the guy shot the cops they made sure he was going to die, a cop shot oscar grant and he's about to get nothing or a slap on the wrist.

And with the little boy, what is there to riot over? All you can do is hope and prey that they find him!! Im a father as like im sure most of us on here are, I spent the time that you may have been thinking that Oakland should riot being a better father.

And with the police shooting, that was tragic also, but with 80% of young black males in oakland feeling the have been discriminated on by the oakland police department, you really think they would be sad with the loss of 4 of them?

When you get pulled over is the first thing the police asks you is "are you on parole or probation"? Answer that for me???

And to answer your question what does Oakland belive in, I cant answer for everybody but I feel that its wrong that because a police officer can accidently kill a man and its not a problem, but me being a civilian if I were to kill some body on accident I would not be out on bail, or fighting for an mistrial or anything to that sort

During the late 80's and early 90's the police chief were targeting the innercity and police brutality were well documented but never video taped. The Rodney King beating was the boiling point, just like the Sleepy Lagoon case (zoot suits) and the Marquette Frye incident (watts riots). There comes a point were people allow their emotions to take control.

I kinda felt that it was an accident at first, then the news brought up the point about the weight difference in the stun gun and the real gun. The stun gun is nearly 4 times lighter than the real gun.

Don't you think the cop should have felt the difference?

But on the other side of the coin if the cop was in a threatened position, in the rush of being scared and trying to protect yourself I can see not noticing the weight.

But then again from the video the cop doesn't look like he is in a position where they are being rushed or any chaos is going on.

I really just dont know what to think about this other than cops need to try to be a bit less trigger happy. Even if the kid was talking shit he is no threat with cuffs behind his back. I argue that a stun gun is already excessive force. You cant stun someone for just yelling....at least I don't think cops should be allowed to if they can.

I was driving a 2000 mustang gt vert. when a dumb jc campus cop asked me this and i told him i make $27.50 and hour work 12 hour shifts at the time. no drugs no weapons back the **** off... and this was all because i was black.

First off i think its fucked up what happened to the 4 cops in oakland, I don't think no one should be rioting when the verdict comes down. but here's the difference, police know what the risks are when they sign up for the job, the police are there to protect and serve the public, not shoot someone in there back who is unarmed, drunk on new years doing what the police tell you to do, and that is if your going to drink take bart, yea was oscar grant probably a little out of hand that night(maybe) but then as a police do your job and take him to jail, not shoot him in his back. So sick and tired of these stupid topics which always turn into race issues. It will never, ever die! It's not allowed to and will always be here to stay. This is why people form there own little communities around the bay area because it's human nature to be with people of the same ethnicity and culture. Fact. People are to afraid to offend or say something which may be taken out of context.

Underneath it all, this trial is all about race which is bullshit. Race should never be brought up in this trial but that will never happen. It's a trial about bad judgement.

I got pulled the race card in high school when someone stole my wallet back in the day. I will never forget it because he said the only reason why I am accusing him was because he was black. Not because he was the nearest person to my backpack and because he was a piece of shit. Sure enough it was right in his front pocket but I was more pissed about the race card he pulled than my wallet with only $10.00 in it. He made sure to yell the part about me accusing him because he was black.

This is a pointless ramble because there is always an argument to everything. But you can't exclude the obvious which is human nature and cultural differences which is not going anywhere. So make the best of it and have a good 4th of July and try to treat everyone like you want to be treated.That alone will help and make you feel better about yourself and hopefully others. Really how many people are killed by Cops a year? 133 cops were killed in 2008 & 125 in 2009. I highly doubt that there was more civilians killed by cops than this. There is some logic and some myth to this post. The communication you speak of has to be 2-way. While I sympathize with what may potentially happen. There is a large effort going on as we speak by community leaders, churches and communities in general to discourage ritoing and violence. So what you speak of is already happening. Now on the other hand. The police department and governing agencies need to do more with grievances filed, and could stand to send some officers to sensitivity training. Also it would be a good idea to implement a Meyers Brigss type of testing during the application process. There are still injustices happening on a whole scale way to much out there as in regards to policing the community. This is a form of communication whether you see it that way or not. granted there are dumb asses that will exploit the situation. That is expected with anything. But until a level communication platform is established and all parties are truly held accountable for their actions I am sure this is destined to be a wash and repeat. So when you guys say "I wish those ghetto people will stop.." or "talk to the people you share a ethnic background" or anything condemning towards the people of Oakland. You have to remember idiots cast aside this is not completely without merit.

I agree with you n8 officers should go through more training like that ( if they dont already im not sure ) and the groups that are getting together for a peacefull rally are a great start, but as you can see on just this post alone that people still just want to cause havic because thats all they know or honestly want to do.

I think N8 that establishing a 2 way communication is something that will really never happen, remember your talking about people who are Employed to keep the peace and will go through training and have the ability to work towards peace but the other side ( civilians ) will have to take it upon themselves to try and establish that relationship and they dont have the obligation to do so.

You are so eager to pass judgment on people (very sad quality btw) that you missed the whole purpose of what I posted. And it is your seclusion that has you thinking we have come farther than we have. When in reality we have not, there is still quite a bit of work in certain regions to make sure folks civil rights are not violated on a regular basis and that there is accountability for those transgressions. And just because someone is raised in an environment that fosters street savvy-ness. Does not mean there is a limitation on their learning. I am a shining example of that.

But I do agree I will have my family out of harms way when it goes down. However I am really glad I am raising my kids to temper judgment with compassion.

It is probably better that you do not understand. And the problem is not living in the past it is learning from the past. You are so eager to pass judgment on people (very sad quality btw) that you missed the whole purpose of what I posted. And it is your seclusion that has you thinking we have come farther than we have. When in reality we have not, there is still quite a bit of work in certain regions to make sure folks civil rights are not violated on a regular basis and that there is accountability for those transgressions. And just because someone is raised in an environment that fosters street savvy-ness. Does not mean there is a limitation on their learning. I am a shining example of that.

But I do agree I will have my family out of harms way when it goes down. However I am really glad I am raising my kids to temper judgment with compassion.

Really how many people are killed by Cops a year? 133 cops were killed in 2008 & 125 in 2009. I highly doubt that there was more civilians killed by cops than this. If I have to answer this for you, I fear your too simple in the mind and not only can I not answer this for you but I would not. Wow I just watched the video of Oscar Grant's mom talking to the news, the cop should've got wayyyyyy more time then what he got. Not taking anybodys side but if you commit murder you should be punished for it regardless if you're a cop or not. That's not right at all.

all the rioting shown on TV was mainly in the downtown/jacklondon area but the rioting was not exclusive to that area only, there was pockets in other parts of the city. cant say for sure about the last pic of the rioting, but the others are for sure the downtown area

Most of the protesters were from Berkley and SF.... I haven't heard of any "out of the country" people in the riots....Id be suprised if people did come from even out of state to riot. I think most of the Oakland punks were smart enough to not stick around to get arrested.

AKLAND, CA (KGO) -- The majority of the looters and protesters arrested Thursday night by the Alameda County Sheriff's Department do not live in Oakland.

The sheriff's office arrested 78 people. Of those, just 19 live in Oakland. Twenty-eight others live elsewhere in the Bay Area.

"Well I don't have any indication; in other words they haven't told me why they're here, but you do have to question why somebody's here from out of state in the middle of Oakland at night causing trouble," sheriff's spokesperson J.D. Nelson said.

Of the 78 arrested, 60 are men. Sixty-six people are being released today on misdemeanor charges. The other 12 are being kept and charged with felonies.

Funny you say this. My brother is hella mad at me because for the most part I think the verdict was right. Maybe could have got voluntary but not murder. Foo wont return my calls....lol

I think people are mad because historically blacks do get stiffer penalties. But with a case like this with so much national coverage it would be hard to sweep a bad judgment under the rug. It sounds sad, but it is what it is.

lol, I'm half black and half WHITE. Funny how knowledge and real life experiences are considered racist. A racist is someone who based their opinions on what others say, or groups a few experiences to form a consensus on a group.
This means, all you guys who have no clue what it is to be unfairly treatly because what you look like or where you live are the true racist.
My opinions are based on my many encounters with the police and many of my friends experiences with the police. Let me give you guys an example, I have a sister that looks completely white, blue eyes, dirty blonde hair with freckles. She is driving in Oakland and she gets pulled over completely drunk, no license. She was able to park her car, got a ticket,which she claimed to be someone else (police took her word for it) and that was it. This is one of many cases my "white" sister was able to walk away from because of what she looks like.

Another example, A friend of mine goes and kicks it with a female that lives in Tracy, gets done with his business and drives home to his house in Oakland. He gets off the freeway and heads directly home. He gets pulled over 2 blocks away from his house, the reason sideshow activity. The police claimed that his 1967 mustang was participating and they tow his car for 30 days. He was completely innocent. He was a victim of being ing the wrong car, the wrong race in the wrong city.


WE as a country have gone a long way in the past 50 years but it has also regressed over the past 15 years.

I do think a lot of this is bullshit though. I think the media for years have purposely favored showing blacks committing crimes on the news since William Randolph Hearst ran shit. Hearst is a major cocksucker, also pushed to criminalize MJ. The media has been racist as fuck for years and you still see this shit on the news. It feeds into the stereo types. Then they like to sensationalize potentially racial situations that may not even be racially motivated, kinda like this situation.
