Get a Kawi ZX10 or ZX14R.

its not that fun unless some of your boys have bikes too..
riding alone sucks.

I am a Ducati owner and would have a hard time moving back to a Japanese bike. Your bike selection should depend on your skill level... if you're a new rider, don't get a turbo charged Hyabusa, etc.

A lot of people on the board including myself have Honda's. They are user friendly, reliable, and comfortable. Zx10s and gsxrs might be faster at the track, but for everyday riding they are not as refined as the Honda's. This is assuming you want a sportbike, and not a crusier or touring bike. What you are into will determine which bike is best for you.

Jaejae.... Don't buy anything bigger then a 600 for your first bike. I really don't ride but have friends that do. Alot of people lay down bikes because they ride way to fast and don't have the basics down.
Take a riding class it will help you out [patriot]

I started out with a Ninja 250 for three years and moved up to a F4i. There are two different crowds...some say to start out with a 250/500 and move up and another group will say to start out with at least a 600 because you will get bored of the 250.

Taking the 250 to the track and seeing how fast those guys go really put me in my place and showed me that no matter how "slow" I thought the bike was on the street, it was still beyond my skill level. It took my about 3 years to learn to push the 250 to it's max potential.

Either way I would suggest to buy a used bike, some good gear and have some fun!

typical honda owner! how do you figure that other s.b.'s aren't as refined as a honda?
imho i like suzukis and kowis because you sit lower in the bike, i feel more control.
hondas imo feel like im sitting as high as the top of the gas tank, plus the seats suck.....there hard as hell!

What you need to do is go to a dealer or bike place and sit on them for yourself that's how you know what bikes for you.have a feeling of it.I always wanted a r6 but once I sat on it and everything I didn't like it I likes the gsxr 600 instead.

I'd agree with Fastertoys..if you dont people who ride, like some of your boys, its not all that. I mean riding in general is fun as hell, but going through twisties and just cruising around alone gets old.

At one point, about a dozen of my boys had bikes and we would ride at least 3 times a week...after work and weekends. It was one ofthe best times of my life [Big Grin] Then I sold mine and the rest of them ended up slowly sleling theirs too.

If you're serious about getting one though, I'd HIGHLY recommend an R6...03+ are my choice of flavor [Whoo Whooooo!]

Take the safety course, and then decide what you want your first bike to be.

i couldnt agree anymore with slowback....your more than likely gooing to go down if you try to jump right on a 1000cc bike....a 600 is plenty if all you want to do is ride on the street and hit the twistys with friends....AND TAKE THE MOTO SAFETY COURSE....IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. i learned a ton of things that help me everyday and i ride my cbr600 everyday

zx10 04-05 or an 07 hands down best years for kawi 1000. Rode a 04 and 07 very comfy lots o power and fun. Dont be afraid to get a 1000 everyone says its too much bike for a beginner but any bike is to much for a dumbass. I got bored on a 600 couldnt keep up with my 1000 friends lol

Or just be a bad ass and get a harley with a kicker [patriot]

Hondas kick ass and the rest suck, rode all the jap bikes and each have their own character. But the Honda's always felt more stable in the twisties and easier to manuever around a parking lot. Wouldnt hesitate to buy either a Kawi or Suzuki if you could get a good deal though. Yamas are cool too, just have to wait for that power band to hit.

This. A 1000 is not too much for a "responsible" rider. I got bored of a 600 quickstyle (although I love my GSXR750 for the track). For everyday riding a 1k CC sport bike is so much better, from passing card, to ease of riding.

DO NOT get a 1000 cc bike if you are a dumbass or you will die. If you are responsible, can keep your right hand in check, then I would go that route.

For racing though, I would go with a 600 or 750 as they rail the turns.

Also, riding by yourself is fine, dont let them scare you.

Mike

I started off with a 748s Ducati shown in my avatar. A lot of people tried to get me to get another bike because I would eventually crash it . That wasn't the case, as long as you respect the bike and dont ride above your limits, esepecially on the streets you should be fine. You need to know your limitations and don't act a fool when your riding. I was never into stunting which could be a big part. I since sold my Ducati and now have a 08 R6 and 06 GSXR 600. Both are awesome bikes and are plenty of power. Im nowhere near to riding the bike out, so there is no need for more power. You can't really go wrong with any of the Japanese bikes. I prefer the GSXR or R6.

I don't know you but based off your post I can tell your personality more or less. If your the same member that swings your mustang at the sideshows and whatnot. If you go with that same mentality while your on a bike. Your time living will be ticking down very soon. You're going wanna do a wheelie or stoppie or whatever to get the crowd or whoever is watching you going. But that's when shit gets dangerous, really dangerous.

Whatever you do, just think really hard before you act.

I dont get why that funny.

1. The ZX14 has a 188cc bigger motor
2. The ZX14 has 31HP more
3. The ZX14 is lighter
4. The ZX14 handles better
5. The ZX14 has better brakes
6. The ZX14 looks way better

Whats funny about that?

Way smart advice. Bike are NOT forgiving, you lose it swinging a stang and you have a bent rim, you lose it on a 90Mph wheelie you have a coffin thats filled.

Be careful

Hoggs are more dangerous in my opinion. Less control, cant split lanes as easy. Sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. Unless your like 50 or something, cruisers are too boring.

hog are the shit if you know how to ride one.best ride ever and a stock hog sucks ass you gotta get some motor work done just like in a mnustang or else its no fun unless u just like cruzin and looking pretty.1st bike bro get a gsxr 750.i love all bikes but gixxers are the best imo.not to small not(600)not to big (1300/1400) right in the middle no one else makes a 750.if you do get something like a 1000 or bigger dont be a fool.its all in the wrist baby cause the bike only does what you make it do so people that tell you dont do it are just scary and have no self control.i have never had my m1 or taken the safty rider class either not that i condone but its on you as a person.i been riding bikes all my life so that makes a world of a difference.just be safe [patriot]

I don't know. For me it is all about ME, the bike, and that next corner at the track. If your into that companionship thing and are more of a cruiser type then get yourself a hog and some matching brain buckets and leather chaps that your buddies are sporting [burnout] I guess the sport bike version would be matching Icon vests over t-shirts complete with a jean shorts/tennis shoe combo. You don't want to be one of these guys:

 -

Jaejae - You really have to ask yourself why you want a bike in the first place. If it is to ride around the city and show up at the local Starbucks with you buds then get whatever bike you want (doesn't matter really as your bike doesn't really scream out to everyone what skills you have on a bike). I guess the "its better to look good then to feel good" applies here. You will probably get some smirks from guys that actually ride though
[Razz]

My first was a kawi 250 for about 4-6 months
My second is a cbr 600rr that I still have
My third that I picked up just last sunday is a cbr 1000rr.

Honestly if you're totally new do yourself and your family a favor and get a 250 something. Kawi or Honda cruiser even. You are going to make mistakes,...mistakes that could kill you on even a 600 bike.

In the end you are going to do what you want.

Mistakes kill is correct. I dont know you personally but you do come off to me as young both age and mentality wise (please do not take offense). Which I was the same way when I was your age. I'd recommend taking Jdubs route. Very wise advice. I lost 3 friends in 5 years and almost lost my brother on bikes. And it was all mainly due to either inexperience or acting foolish.

I sold my CBR and havent been on a bike since. Honestly I am scared of them now. Which to me is even worse than being wreckless on one.

But like Jdub said you will do what you do. If you get a bike please take those courses and be safe and respect the bike (dont fear it).

Me and my Hubby were thinking of buying some street bikes, but heard the insurance on them were SKY HIGH. Is that true? How high are your guys insurances? We are 21 and 22 so our rates would be high cause of our age but just want an idea if the insurance is as crazy as people have been telling me.

Yeah great point n8. Don't fear the bike, respect it. Simple sound advice.

As for insurance I currently pay $57 every two months on my 600rr. I'm 32 with 4 points [Embarrassed]

Insurance does get expensive if you get a full coverage policy that covers you even while commuting. I'm sure the quotes for 20-30 bucks have limitations on their policies or are for recreational use only.

My Gieco policy is for full coverage and 1k deductibles. It is not for recreational use only.

i think that if you are at home on a dirtbike you should really put some thought into a supermoto bike. those are the OG hooligan bikes.ive been riding since i was young and out of all the 38 bikes in the last 10 years my street legal crf450 was the best.

Hi Jae Jae nice to see that ur alive and hopefully feeling better about life. Me I bought an older GSXR 750. It is the bomb. Still using it around the house to get used to it.

From all the advice you will get, I suggest it boils down to this , definately take the course. One, it will Dave you money and two it will show you the dynamics of the bike and how to be take are of it and be careful if dumbasses outhere.

It also let's you bypass the DMV riding test. Just be careful with anything u get. Shit I can be a dumbass on a Geo Metro and still die from that. So take it easy and enjoy any bike you get. From a 250 and beyond!!!

Posted by Rigo5.0 (Member # 5247) on :

Whatever bike you decide on, here are my recommendations/insight:

- Get full coverage insurance, chain lock and rotor lock. Some fags stole my bike about a month ago...

- Majority of folks say to start with no more than a 600 cc if you don't have much riding experience. I say start with 750 or above. You'll want more power after a few months. Accidents on bikes don't happen because they're too fast, they happen because people ride like idiots!

- Riding is fun whether you're alone or with a group. I love it!

Good luck!

No one even bothered looking out or asking JaeJae how much experience he has with street bikes? AND recommending a ZX14R or anything bigger then 600? [Roll Eyes]

Some real riders on here [Roll Eyes]

Jae, if you have less then one year experience riding, i say start slow with a bucket 250 until you build your confidence up then upgrade to a 600. Preferably R6, Zx6r [Smile]

Whatever he gets should boil down to respect, skill and need or want to drive your buying options. I knew that I wanted either a 600 or 750 to start off. Believe me in saying that I respect it a lot.

Make your own decision, but take everything people say to heart. It will only help you in the long run.

If you really want to learn how to ride start with a 250.

Posted by CobramanPhil (Member # 2170) on :

+10000000 to the guys saying to start off on a smaller bike. Out of about 16 years of riding on the street (7 or 8 of those years doing track days 4-5 times a year) I have not met one single person that could honestly convince me that their 600 sport bike did not have enough power for them. We all laugh when someone says that they have "outgrown" their little 600 and need a 1000. Too many people get caught up on their egos and all look for that magical 1000 number in hopes of somehow making them faster [Roll Eyes] So don't worry about the size of the motor. Worry about your skill set first...plenty of guys on 250s and old 600s that none of those liter bike guys can stay with. Even the elite guys on the track on 600s supersport machines are only a couple seconds behind the superbike (1000) machines. For street riding in particular it is pretty much an even playing field regardless of what size bike you have.
