I have been out of the loop for so long now, i feel like such an idiot, but i gotta ask some questions. What are smog exempt cars? Is it still 74 and older? What about Kit cars? I wouldnt mind owning a Cobra kit car someday, what are the laws on them? My wife has a Miata that someday i would like to put an LS1 into, whats the legality of that? I may not stay in california long if i cant find loopholes or someway around these absurd emissions laws...

The vehicle code still applies to the requirement of emission components on vehicles even if they are exempt from the bi-annual emissions testing.
So....you still could get a modified emission citation. You can do an engine swap (some limitations) and after teh proper inspections/tests you will be issued a mylar sticker that will be attached in the engine bay or driver side door.

Miata with an LS1 at MOST 2400 pds, horsepower say a low estimate of 330hp, that should put the Miata into the mid to low 11's, your truck, which is im guessing from the pic a Lightning and tipping the scales at 4500 pds or so and even if you made 500hp, thats good for low 12's in a vehicle that heavy. The weight of the Miata gives it the advantage, sure i may be gay for dusting your ass in a Miata, but none the less you still lost to a "FAG" in a miata. This is not an attack on your inteligence so dont get all butthurt, just pointing out some facts. Saying a Miata will NEVER beat your truck is a little abusrd....

Yeah i dont really get the attraction to donuts, i like going fast, not in circles, but yeah, mine is a stock block, but thats about it. Forged Internals, 331 stroker, AFR 185 heads, lots of time and effort and money into the motor. My best is a 12.5 @ 109 and ive still got the nitrous ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

1975 is the cut off for smog exempt cars, that year isn't changing anymore because of a new law. So anyhting made before 1975 is smog exempt.
