Even though they were both in a heated argument the old guy has the common sense to get out of his chair and move to the front of the bus to avoid the situation. If the black guy went up there and followed him to push the confrontation then the old guy had every right to clock him. The black guy did not even need to throw the first punch in that situation (on video) for the old guy to justify his actions of putting a beat down. Following the old guy to the front of the bus shows intent and that pretty much gives the green light to "defend yourself".
