Or if you agree with me, help me find one [Big Grin] I'm pretty sold to get a dark gray one with under 50k for under $15k. Is it possible to get a ford dealer extended warranty up to 100k on one of these still?

Are there any issues I should know about with them? I don't plan to mod it past the basics (bluetooth nav stero, tannoe cover, leveling kit with rear air bags for towing, intake, lightning lower pulley to bring it to stock lightning boost, and a SCT dyno tune).

I thought the SVT Lightning motors are hand built like the Cobra's?

Either way, they are sick ass trucks. I REALLY want a 2 tone silver & black 1 for a dd...

internals and such are the same, but as mentioned not hand built, and have a larger pulley setup that makes 2lbs less boost than a lightning.

Those are nice trucks so it would be hard to talk you out of one.

I guess my only concern would be gas mileage..esp after the newness has worn off. Good luck though.

Why not just get a Lightning?

I don't really want a diesel, too loud and uncomfortable for long trips for me.

want the extra room of 4 dr's, I'm going from a `01 4dr chevy blazer 4x4 to a `96 tahoe 2dr 4x4 + a 2wd pickup, so since the tahoe is a 2dr I want something with 4 doors, which means harley to me.

Good luck finding one with under 50k for under 15k! These trucks are hella money for being so damn old! lol! The only ones I could find that were somewhat reasonably prced were the ones that were that ugly as greyish charcoal color. The all black ones and the silver and black ones were always way more money. People act like these damn truck are gold! Right now I'm lookin for a Dodge ram 1500 with a Hemi in it LOL! there alot cheaper and look pretty good too. Good luck in your search [patriot]

one sold down in LA this weekend before I could look at it, had 55k miles and was listed for $14.7 at a dealer, I'm pissed I missed it [Frown]

most lightnings I see run either low 14"s or high 13"s with a "couple mods"...

Get one! I had a harley truck and a lightning at the same time, and loved them both. If you want a harley truck with performance, go with the 02 or 03 as they are the only ones supercharged. The only issue you have to deal with is one spark plug possibly shooting out of the head. Common problem with that engine, yet no recall. It happened to both my trucks, but luckily I had warranty that covered the repair. After selling them, I must say I miss them a lot.

I have a 01 lightning when it was bone stock i went 13.7, i put a 6lb lower pully and intake on street tires and went 12.9 at 103mph. Then put 8lb lower and a 50 shot, and went 12.3 110mph. Now i have a fully built motor, low boost last time out on 100 octane, went 11.8 at 120mph, the truck weight was 5025 pounds with me in it and a half a tank of gas. they are tanks but there a ton of fun! I love my truck. And as for the stock engines, there ok, there not built like the cobras, they have powder rods not forged steel h-beam rods like the cobras, they do have forged crankshafts and they have forged pistons. No, they have a stock 5.4L short block, they can only take as much power as a Regular F150 with a 5.4L, No forged internals. I had an 03, built it for SEMA 2003 then it became to much and sold it... if I did it all over again I would of put a smaller upper pulley, lowered it, full exhaust and leave it alone.

they have forged cranks and pistons they also have lower compression the reg f-150s. There safe with a good tune. i made 440rwhp to the tire and it had 100k before it let go.

crank and pistons are forged. The pistons are not 2618 aluminum pistons, for example like manley or JE. But they are still forged pistons. [patriot]

so nobody talked me out of one yet? [Wink]

I found one about 2 hours from me, 70k miles asking for $13k, but it needs the heater core replaced, is that as big of a PITA as on a mustang? I've done it on a truck before but it was a tahoe, was easy.

If you think a diesel is loud and uncomfortable on long road trips i'd suggest you test drive a nice 04-06 dodge with the cummins and see how you feel after that. My friend had one for a while and it road very nice around town and on the freeway, got 24mpg on road trips and wasn't too loud in the cab (much quieter than my 2000 F250 with the 7.3)

that being said I love my 99 F150 4x4. Rides great, but doesn't have the power my diesel had when passing cars on the freeway. I really miss that part of it. although a supercharger would certainly fix that problem [burnout]

Huh that's interesting, when I took mine to SEMA the guys form Ford came over to talk to me about the truck and they told be it was a bone stock 5.4L because of price and budget they decided not to put the L motor in it.

Either way one day I will get my hands on another 03 Silver and Black.

made a deal tonight at a socal dealer that just got an `02 DSG harley in trade.

it's cosmetically rough (some idiot used it as a contractor/work truck?!) but mechanically very sound, 125k miles, 1 owner, clean title, no accidents, completely stock. Has the moon roof and rear sliding window options that I wanted too.

dealer accepted my offer of $7k + my `01 blazer in trade, hopefully I get it this weekend [Whoo Whooooo!] [burnout]

Sounds like a rip if your 01 blazer was paid off... Lets see some pics! [Big Grin]

Id pass on that truck. Sounds like your just trying to jump into the first thing you find. But if your willing to put in the money to fix all thats wrong its up to you but weight that compared to finding that doesnt need anything.

I paid for the blazer in cash ($2000), drove it for 3 years, and right now it needs an ABS controller ($$$) and a radiator. I've had it on craigslist for months now with zero emails or calls.

how's it a rip, I'm essentially paying 9500 for a mechanically perfect 100% stock truck that's worth about 12k if I clean it up, most of which is just paint repair, the interior is an 8/10. And getting $2500 for the blazer, which is more than I paid for it...

I pick it up tomorrow, it's getting smogged/safety checked now, and I requested a leak down test / spark plug thread inspection to be done today as well.

whatever I get I can't garage, my notch and my fobra stay in the garage along with all my tools, so I figure something with cosmetic issues won't give me a heart attack [Smile] The body is straight, just scratched and scuffed, I've repaired worse paint before.

welp deal is done, waiting for the new tires and brakes, hopefully I get to pick it up monday, here's a couple pics, the worst areas are obviously the bumpers, inside the bed, and the tailpipe.

it's filthy as they haven't even washed it since it was traded in. On the paperwork for the leak down test I had them perform, the tech wrote that spark plugs were motorcrafts and looks like none of them have shot out (yet), maybe because they're original?

car looks whopped! I would not have bought it but hey as long as you are happy.... You could have gotten much nicer trucks for 10k....

No accidents no way that thing looks like it hopped a curb with the front/exhaust like that.

Original plugs @ 125k (unless the previous owner has maint. paperwork from Ford) sounds like a raw deal. The rear weatherstripping is ripped as well..
