This new Jay Z cut is ridiculous... I dunno if this is a repost or whatever, but his new joint "D.O.A. (death of auto-tune)" is the hardest & realest track I have heard in 2009. Basically he is calling out all the weak trendy rappers that are singing more than rapping nowadays, & everyone that is using auto tune. For those of you who don't know what auto tune is, it is the robotic sounding effect that you will hear on most popular music nowadays. It will also make you sound like you can sing when you really can't, because it will automatically put your vocals in tune when they are out of tune.. (I.E. T Pain, Lil Wayne, Kanye) Me personally, I am sick & tired of hearing all the auto tune bullsh#t & it has pretty much ruined popular music IMO....

For you cats that are only into commercial pop music, or bay area hyphy stuff, you will most likely not dig this song, because it is straight up raw hip hop, but before you knock it, listen to the lyrics, because this is the realest stuff I have heard in a long time...

Here is the music video as well...

Kind of like, if your boy owned a Terminator, but he painted it pink. You wouldnt be any less his homie if you told em' that sh#t was gay & that he should paint it sonic blue instead... LOL!!!

My bad... What do you like then? I will admit, it is not the best beat I have heard Jay use, but I still like it. But, lyrically, I love it because I feel where hes coming from because the new music is sooooo watered down with that auto tune BS!!!

That is another great track from Jay-Z.

What is happening with auto-tone or electronic editing is not always a bad thing. It does go against the traditional rap/hip hop fundamentals but because it's different does not make it wrong.

If you look back in the 1900's composers started to write with dissonance and atonal music. Popular composers thought that it was just a bunch of crap noise because it was the complete opposite of what was considered fundamental music at the time. Today, tonality is as much apart of music as is tonal writing.

Even what we call the modern day piano, saxophone, trumpet, etc has changed overtime to produce a different sound to what it originally was. The sax was designed and first to be used for a military band, and many years later a guy named Kenny G would not only play an evolved variation of the sax (which totally changed the timber of the original saxophone) but popularized it playing love songs. It's a far fetch from is military roots.

Instead of saying death to auto-tone he should have made a song titled "It is what it is" because it's what a sector of rap/hip hop has developed into. Either way, I do agree it 's crap but musically someone out there enjoys it and there is nothing wrong about that.

FINALLY!!!

Someone needs to BANN LIL WAYNE FROM RAPPING (singing, laughing ??) or whatever he does when he records.

LIL WAYNE IS a disgrace to Hip Hop!! Its so irritating how he rhymes, laughs, and that auto tune bullshit.

I wish Tupac was still here to rip these sesame street ass rappers

lil Wayne was tight when he was a hot boy. Now its a crap shoot if I like his music. Kanye is really bad for the game IMO. He is weak, does nothing innovative and doesn't write his material. I think once Jay Z steps away there will be a gaping hole in Rap. I know there is always underground. But its the visible artists that keep rap alive. And right now I just cannot think of one artist who I would actually buy their record without hearing it first because I know they spit heat rocks. I mean there is Jada Kiss and Eminem but they cannot seem to put rap on their backs like Jay Z did. And his performance at the end of the BET awards was off the hook IMO.

I like the song.

Well I did say "write his material" [Roll Eyes]

Kanye is weak sauce, just the thought he don't write his stuff turns me off. I wanna like him, but soon as words roll off his tongue that thought goes all out the window.

no doubt, but his is just too well known. Plus the writing isnt all that good. He is better off featuring on stuff. by himself his skills just dont hold water. Kinda like Nate-Dogg. Fire on other peoples stuff, but garbage on his own.

I think I know what it is with him, it was the whole Beanie Seagal thing. Kanye bitched up. Now its hard for me to even listen to him.

Posted by rmadison007 (Member # 8670) on :

So who ghost writes for Kanye? or does he not write his lyrics like Wayne and Jay? Wayne changed the game. Name another rapper that leaks all his material, good and bad, for everyone to hear and judge. I bet if we heard every song Jadakiss, Eminem, or your favorite rapper spit in the booth they wouldn't make the same impact as Wayne. It one thing to be graded on your best, it another to be graded on everything even you rough drafts. Jay is great, but Wayne, Drake, and Kanye are carrying the game right now. Even Jay understands that. In his third verse he shots them out.

Posted by 86- 50 (Member # 4723) on :

Yea i feel you on that one, but beinie seagal is a nobody now and he probably didn't want to let him get his name back out there off of him.

I dont even know who drake is...lol. Wayne I can more or less agree with you. He is a New Orleans product so I gotta by default be biased. Lately tho, his stuff stinks. Its hit or miss with me. Now when he was with Juvie, BG and those dudes. Yes i would buy his album sight unseen because his music was the truth. I dunno man, I am a little older so I expect more honesty in music and less gimmick. I like music I can feel not hear. If those 3 can carry the game that lets you know right now the game is in bad shape. kinda like the heavyweight division in boxing.

almost every beat...i think he did 6 beats on the album but that is still unheard of these days.

Posted by rmadison007 (Member # 8670) on :

I agree Wayne's stuff is hit or miss, but so is every artist. I bet if u heard all his early misses along with the early hits u like u would probably give him the same grade. His mixtape songs and album quality songs are all together in this music era, he definitely has more quantity than quality right now, but I believe that gives his music a more real appeal. No one goes into the booth and kills it everytime.

As for kanye, he said it himself when he said "If I was as great rapping as I am at making beats I would be the greatest of all time."Kanye's greatness is in the production of his songs. His lyrics are hit or miss, but the production is always on point. He has a great balance in all his songs.

If u don't who drake is then find out. He is about to change the game for real. Ask your kids they should know. He almost closed the BET awards without putting out an album just a mixtape. There is something special about the music he makes. You should be able to find his mixtape so far gone somewhere on the net. Everyone speaks highly of him and Jay Z are gone as far as to call his mixtape the greatest of all time.

I really dont like Jay Z's music, As a rapper I think his lyrics are at the top of the game along with people like Nas. But I seriously dont
get the Lil Wayne thing, I seriously cant understand what he is saying most of the time because hes so busy moaning/mumbling and laughing through his music which is just rediculous to me!

Lyrically I have always liked jay z. Reasonable doubt has always been the hardest album I have heard so far. DOA will be a track that changes some things and a lot of opinons people have on the current hip-hip game or lack there of.

However when yall say kanye & wayne are wack yall trippn. The stuff you hear on the radio is far from the totallity of their ability. Those tracks are made just for the radio. Lil waynes freestyle ability and mix-tape raps are DOPE. Kanye makes beats that are way fresh and doesn't do bad lyrically himself. College dropout and graduation were good albums. Have you heard the song "roses" by kanye or "tie my hands" my lil wayne? Those tracks are far from garbage.

Off his new album..that boy was gassing the whole song...webbie and lil boosie are other artist who you gotta listen to..wayne's mixtape stuff is craaaaazy like its been said its a hit and miss with him..sometimes he comes suuuuuper hard ..and other time your like wtf ...he juss made no sense his whole verse...

I think once you become a artist that only have a sprinkling of good songs here and there. I think in totality you become garbage. Long gone are the days when you buy a persons album based on trust. You now have artists that you only feel comfortable buying 1 song here and there on itunes or what have you. Hate to sound old but I think that is crippling the industry. We all know there will not be another Pac, but hell just have some substance to your music. I agree that Kanye as a producer is great. but when you say lyrically a person is just "good" then say this person is holding down rap, that is just a slap in the face.

And I still do not know who Drake is...lol. I'll go home and ask my kids about him.

One thing I will say is Wayne is a genius in that he is saturating the market with himself. Like Master P did in the late 90's. He forced himself and his artists on you. I remember when I went to the record store and that fool had a whole section of just him and his artists. Wayne is doing a bit of the same. he is on everything and is everywhere. Very smart.

But back on kanye and wayne I can guarantee I will find two good joints for every bad one. But college drop out & graduation are two albums I can play from almost start to finsh. 808's & heart break has its moments. The carter series isn't bad either.

aside from that lame, i cant wait till waynes comeback to jay z, its gunna be a blood bath! jay is washed up, hows he gunna retire 20 times!!!! and then come back to talk shit!!!!

N8, about your pac comment, check game homie............no foreals Game!!! if your realy a pac fan you will see young pac in him!!!!

yall can talk as much shit as you want but, wayne is doing just what a smart money man would do.

Actually I do not see much Pac in the Game at all. But I do like Game. But Game is still a rapper, not an artist (IMO).

And with the current landscape of rap, Jay Z can retire 100 times and still come back and torch these clowns. If Wayne was smart he would take that diss with a grain of salt and keep steppin. To me there are 2 people in the game you dont wanna battle. That is Jay-Z and Eminem, with their skills and access to the limelight you just dont wanna do it. Jay will murder Lil Weenie on track.

As far as staying in the hood with money, some dudes are just built like that. The ghetto sometimes can be a disease, a dependency. I just wish they would do something positive with the money like investing in the hood. So I would not knock a person from not wanting to move to the Hamptons or what have you.

Everyone has their own taste in music, but to me Lil Wayne is GARBAGE.

I agree he was coming out with good shit back in the 90s and early 00s but after he hit the mainstream pop style, his dedication to hop/hop dropped.

Anyone ever heard of Gillie The Kid? He use to work close with Lil Wayne.. Watch this..

And even if he can flow or do whatever, why would you waste your energy in making these garbage radio tracks?

The only rapper/r&b thats in the mainstream that i listen to is Lupe Fiasco..

Gillie is a clown, home boy is a hater! if he was as tight as he say he is and as rich "80 vvs this 80 vvs that" then he would have a deal! dudes a lame! think about this, if i had a mill, in my mouth alone..........you can bet your bottem doller that i wouldnt be in the hood kickin it with "real gangsta niggas"! you can find me at the hamptons pullin hoes........not lookin over my sholder!
aside from that lame, i cant wait till waynes comeback to jay z, its gunna be a blood bath! jay is washed up, hows he gunna retire 20 times!!!! and then come back to talk shit!!!!

N8, about your pac comment, check game homie............no foreals Game!!! if your realy a pac fan you will see young pac in him!!!!

yall can talk as much shit as you want but, wayne is doing just what a smart money man would do.

Gillie the kid was implying to Lil Wayne's diss.. Lil wayne pretends to be gangsta gangsta on most of his tracks..

Obviously Lil wayne didnt diss back cuz he knew gillie was on point [Smile]

For clarification, Jay has already addressed the song and its context when it came out 3 weeks ago. He said that he was addressing everyone except Weezy, Kanye, and T-Pain and if he wanted to do an autotune record he would only do it with them. He wants other rappers to become more creative and let T-Pain, Wayne, and Kanye keep the autotune niche.

Eminem is a fantastic lyricist, but his lack of versatility has allowed the music industry to pass him up. Just like 50 cent, they allowed Dr. Dre to dictate the production and fell into making the same music and same formula that just seems old today. The longevity of an artist comes from being able to reinvent themselves. Jay-Z is a far different rapper from the begining of his career when he rapped like Twista. Even Wayne changed from being a hot boy to who he is today. Honestly Wayne vs Jay-Z is a toss up and so is Wayne vs Eminem. Until you actually do your research and listen to all of Wayne's stuff, Commercial and Mixtape, you can not accurately compare him to the lyrically elite, but he even has some commericial stuff that is ridiculous. Namely the verse he did for DJ Khaled in we taking over. I think they are all 1a, 1b, or 1c.

Gillie the kid has been saying this stuff for ages. He is trying to get on like 50 cent. He makes accusations about the hottest rapper out trying to get shine so people will pay attention to him and eventually draw buzz enough to land a major label deal. Wayne does not ever respond to people dissin. Remember the kissing picture, 50 cent called him out, and the clipse. That is the reason 50 pushed back his album because he wanted to generate buzz from a beef with the hottest in the game and couldn't. Just like when he started shit wit kanye and ja rule.

I like the song. i dont like the , " la la la la good bye" partthough.

Wayne is my favorite rapper, but i agree some of the shit he puts out can be garbage , but he just trying something new so he can be everywhere in the music game and stack MORE paper. Thats what i like about him, he has different styles and doesnt give a Fuk. From always strapped to lolli pop to prom queen type crap. he does it all .On Birdman's "Make way" he goes jamican on his first verse
Im Me is one of my favorite Wayne songs

Believe me I am up on lil Wayne and his underground stuff. I'll listen to the tracks posted. I wish Jada Kiss could get a good camp around him. I love that fools flow. But I am gettin older and out of the demographic these cats are catering to. So my word probably doesn't matter much. Thus is why I never heard of Drake..lol. And why I have a 40GB Zune filled with nothing but Pac, Twista, Jada Kiss, DMX and Jay Z. Oh and my south shit, but you guys dont know nothing bout that...lol.

Jay Z = Torched lil Wayne
Eminem = Torched lil Wayne
Game -= to Pac

I don't think Lil Wayne is on the diss level yet, i think he doesnt have the lyrcial potential to diss folks. He would start singing, laughing crying while dissing someone...

He needs to decide wether to be a pop singer or a rapper...

It is funny that many of you who dont care for Wayne are the same who still listen to Pac, Mac Dre, CBO, any other rapper that made a name for themselves in the early 90's. I grew listening to them and I believe from time to time they are good listening, but non at all relevent today. It sounds like your Zune book is a history book detailing the best and the greatest of the 90's rap era. Waiting for Pac to become reincarnated into another rapper will never happen. He is an icon created by a producer in his prime, and artist in his prime, and an industry in its prime. Live in the past if you must, but in order to help the industry you don't turn your back on it and compare it to the past u look and find artists of today that appeal to you.
Explaining Wayne to some of you is like explaining him to my Dad. My Dad believes there is no artist today who makes anything he would consider music. They should listen to Marvin or Al to hear good music. And honestly that what you guys are saying too!!!! Listen to Pac, Too Short, and Mac Dre!

Wayne is not trying to be the best lyrical rapper your approval of his lyrics dosent mean anything to him!!! He is about MONEY!!! & even thoe he cant hold .2cents to Jay Z lyrics, He's making head lines with his show!!! LoL So thats making him alot of MONEY!!! He's on everyone's album right now getting paid!!! He might not be around for a very long time but he is trying to get every cent out their while he has the stage!!! So the more crazy & weird he gets the more people want to see him perform!! Like last night on the BET awards!! Why would you have 3 little girls on the stage with you but sing the song I want 2 fuck every woman in the World?? He got bleeped many times!!! Not cool but I still like his music!! LoL

Have you listened to the Wayne CD leaked before the Carter 3 to create buzz for album? There are 5 songs on there including one that he did for the BET awards called "Gossip". That was lyrically the most impressive five songs sampler i have ever heard.

You say that you believe Wayne is not lyrically on the same level as Jay or Eminem. Well why back after the Carter 2 when Jay and Dame split and he had his own label he was asked what artist would want if he could have to start his label and he answered "Wayne". He has been quoted several time praising wayne as the hottest MC in the game. As for Eminem, he is not even relevant. If anyone is a pop star Eminem is. I respect Jay the most because of his age and his ability the remain relevent. Eminem just dropped a CD and i dont remember him being asked to perform on the BET Awards.

He did that song because it has been in constant radio circulation for a minute now. Also it is a very popular video that showcases him and the next big thing Drake.

Almost all of the new rap/hip hop music sucks.
Just because I like bay area rappers doesn't mean that I'm dated.... Jay z tried to retire after ten years [Roll Eyes] too short is still rappin' still making money. I think rap has slowly been going down hill......If you could go back in time 15 years and play a new song from today... It would more then likely get laugh at.

You can't knock old school rappers like eric b and. Rakim and stuff... He had the best verse on the clasics song IMO [Smile]

People gotta understand that artists will do anything for publicity and money.

Whether it's bling bling, stunnas, hennessy, weed, bape, auto-tune, scrapers, etc. People will keep rapping about that shit until it gets played out to make MONEY.

Talking shit to other rappers will make publicity as well. Even bad publicity is still publicity.

I agree with some of the things Jay-Z says but why doesn't he actually retire? He never will he just says that to build up hype IMO.

I agree, his camp isnt up to par, but Lynch on the other hand, hes still raw.... Im tellin you, listen to that link I posted. Its a track we did a couple of years ago. He gassed on it....

Jadakiss is a good raper.... One of the better of the east coast... Still think overall that the west coast has done better song's starting from the early years of rap. Even with a short time rapping 2pac is one of the most well known, mac dre was blowing up, who doesn't know too short, E-40, dr.dre, snoop, mac-10, ice cube, ice-t ...... He list goes on. We had the late80's and early 90's on lock [Smile]

I dunno, the early 90's the south was coming on strong. No Limit, Eight Ball MJG, Scarface, Geto Boys, 504 Boyz.

Make em UUUUUGGHHHH, na na na na. But I guess it is where you are at. In the south (in the 89's) Too Short was unheard of, e-40 a lil bit of course Cube, Mad Circle and Dre.

well then i guess i just like smart people, not people that take a whole min. to think of the next thing there gunna say.
lets be real, jay z is the slowest rapper alive and jada is a close second!!!!!
when people say "thats a tight rapper" i think shit like "he musta just droped 28 bars without a pause"!
so next time you say a rapper is tight, stop and think about how long it took him or her to get threw 10 bars!!!!! [BS flag]

Song is cool, but I wouldnt say it SHIT's on D.O.A.... They are 2 different types of tracks. D.O.A. is a battle track, & that Jacka song is a mellow track... Good track though IMO...

I will agree with you about Nas, he is my favorite MC, but Jay Z is dope too IMO.

Im not gonna get into a pissing match with you about this music, because I love all genre's of hip hop, but I personally think that Jay Z has a hard ass track with D.O.A, & its puttin alot of fake MC's on blast with its message.....

Shit, if you want to hear a dope mellow track with meaningful lyrics, this "Common" track "I used to love her" Shits on that Jacka song, & its 15 years old.....

Nah, I am not a fan of him outside of his music. but listen to yourself. You are recalling a minuscule encounter with Jay-Z. I guarantee he is not blogging about those guys with the dumb fitting clothes. So in essence being that you are storing that in your mental Rolodex in hand makes you the borderline groupie... [Big Grin]

But yes I am still bitter about the IOU... [BS flag]

I do not disagree, by your own account you clothes are "dumb fitting". Can never compete with that. Dumb fitting clothes make me think of those kids wearing the skinny jeans and capris (and they are not girls).

A few years back, I was in a few sessions with the Mob Figaz because they were actually supposed to use some of my tracks,(actually AP9 used some without my permission lol), & I couldn't help but notice that Fed Ex tried really hard to sound like Jay Z... Not just lyrically, but the way he flowed too, & his voice....

I really don't bump much of their music, so I coulnt tell you any specific tracks, but I do remember he did a track on my boy Bueno's album & he sounded like Jay alot...

On another note, I dunno how they ended up with my beats on the album, & I dunno if they ever actually were released, but I have 3 tracks in my computer that they spit on without getting my permission. 2 are AP9, & the other 1 is just Mob Figaz.... Maybe 1 of you guys that are fans of their music could tell me if these songs were ever released if I email them to you...

one of my boys who makes beats burned cd's of his beats and mailed em to himself...but he never opened the package...he said doing this would prove you created the music also the USPS post mark shows the date which helps prove when you had the music created somewhat....

i dont know the laws on that but if you can prove that your shit was protected and someone used it without your permission you probably are entitled to some looochee $$$

Epik you need to start protecting your shit. I talked to a friend of mine who is a producer in the bay and he thinks he has worked with you. And may be aware of the violation...lol.
