It was for stollen parts. Nothing else. All other mentioning of street racing is thrown in to get youngsters thinking twice on street racing. Being that youngsters these days ARE so stupid they would assume that street racing IS the reason why the car was crushed. There is no way in hell they car crush a car for go fast parts. That would mean off the assembly line cars should be crushed.

Cops saw the racing parts and inspected further. Great job by the cops and I hope they keep crushing those cars.

Just think how many people actually paid for those parts and then some knuckle head steals them and puts them on his car.

That dumbass got what he deserved. Apparenly he did not learn his lesson because he got caught stealing another car. Felony + Felony = dumbfuck that doesn't learn very easily. If you dont learn the easy way then you have to learn the hard way.

LAPD webiste has a big old section on these new laws. They say something in there to the effect that if you get caught street racing and have modified your car illegally then they can crush your car, even if you just bought it and still owe $30,000 on it. Here's a quote from the page:

"If your vehicle is financed, you are still responsible for the payments, regardless of whether your vehicle was seized or not. This means you make payments on a crushed car!"

One cop on the Sacramento Bee website was quoted with saying something to the effect of:

Anybody that modifies there vehicle is into street racing. Now we don't have to catch them in the act to put them in jail.

You might be able to quit paying the bill, because they can't repo it. Actually, the bank would probably require you to pay off the loan immediately when they got the salvage certificate for the car that no longer exists. I don't know...either way it just seems totally f@#ked. Are the cops getting money from Toyota...crush everything cool so the only thing left to buy are those damn Prius things?

So the bank gets the salvage title... Then if you refuse to pay it... The bank will probably take legal action.(somehow this just doesn't seem right) And then your credit will be fucked. Wow this is all bad. Just for having a spoiler and rims. And maybe a anti-sway bar. Maybe tinted windows?

Yeah, I caught that too. As I understand it though, the law seems to give complete discretionary power to the officers.
