good picks but only one i would go against is sokoudjou. machida just has too much experience and i think he'll just do enough to squeeze a decision out.

Sokoudjou could pull off a TKO or KO seeing as Machida has won the vast majority of his fights by decision. Machida is a great BJJ practitioner BUT he is just boring in my opinion to watch. He lack's the explosive demeanor that other BJJ practitioners have.

I guess you guys forgot about how dominant Matt Hughes was/is...How many people has he beat, Gracie, Penn?...Not to mention he's already beat GSP...He will beat GSP again...GSP is great and one of my favorite fighters, but I don't think Matt will fuck around on this one...He's gonna do what he does best and take GSP to the ground, submit or choke....

I think Chuck will take Silva in the first round, otherwise Silva's gonna take it....If Chuck doesn't connect with one of his hooks, then I think Silva will outlast and end up beating Chuck...Chucks got reach on Silva though, right?!.....Isn't this Silva's first "octagon" fight too?....

Hopefully I don't eat my words, but I'm looking forward to this Saturday!... [patriot]

UFC 81 "Breaking Point" 2 February 2008

Thus far Mir VS Lesnar is the only fight on the UFC fight card.

I'm pretty certain Cro Cop will be fighting at this event judging from what I've been seeing and reading on his Croatian website.

Rumored to be the fight card:

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Tim Sylvia - UFC HW Vacant Title
Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
Tyson Griffin vs. Gleison Tibau
Nate Marquardt vs. Thales Leites
Cheick Kongo vs. Justin McCully
Ricardo Almeida vs. Alan Belcher
David Heath vs. Tomasz Drwal
Terry Martin vs. Marvin Eastman

My picks would be:

Nogueira by a landslide
Lesnar
Marquardt
Kongo
Belcher
Heath
Eastman by a landslide. (Terry Martin just can't make up his fucking mind about which class he wants to fight in. First he was a LHW then dropped down to MW and now back to LHW.)

Silva started fighting in the UFC early in his career, there is a vid floating around where he's fighting Tito Ortiz in the Octagon

I don't think Matt will win, GSP by KO again... i hope anyway, i just don't like Matt Hughes.

no he has had like 3 ufc fights and he lost 2 of them. tito and vitor belfort.
those same people you talk about matt beating he has lost to as well. remember how he was beaten by b.j. penn or knocked out by gsp (might i add the bell is the only reason it even made it to the 2nd round).. and when he beat b.j... penn took that fight on 2weeks notice and was smashing hughes the whole first round. then he got tired and matt pulled it out..

man i will be pissed if nogueira gets a title shot all ready. he barely got by heath (crazy horse). 1 piss poor fight win gets you a title shot?

winners
gsp +1
chuck +1
sokoudjou-1
clementi+1
palelei-1
irvin +1
mohr -1
lister +1
desouza -1
evans -1

too bad chuck & wanderlei didn't fight eachother during their primes... regardless, it should be a good fight. just sucks with the ufc rules in which wanderlei & the rest of his crew can't really do the damage that they normally do in pride.... gsp vs. hughes should be a good fight as well! goin for wanderlei & gsp

GSP is going to dominate Serra once he recovers from his ruptured disc. Hughes is pretty much done in my opinion. He's getting older and simply cannot compete with the explosive athletic abilities of GSP.

Posted by STREETFIGHTER50 (Member # 2973) on :

well looks like chuck still has it in him! hopefully he overcomes his fear with quinton jackson & just fights him like he's been doing with the others... gsp is one bad mf. that was a tight ass fight. he'll beat the shit of matt serra! hopefully it won't look fixed like the last time with those 10-1 odds! lol! wouldn't it be nice to have gsp step up in weight to fight anderson silva or anderson come down in weight? that would definately be the one to watch!

Yeah, I was disapointed....Matt looked like shit....He got handled at his own ground game....GSP is bad ass....

fear? chuck don't fear rampage. he got caught with a punch to the jaw and got knocked out. how is that fear? gsp will get knocked out again by serra! silva won't have the title after march 1. henderson will rape him for the belt. [patriot]

I do not think Serra will Beat GSP. GSP is on top of his game. Thats the best i have seen GSP he was a +++++++

i do believe since rampage fucked up chuck the 1st time in pride, he does kinda fear him just a little bit. watch how he fights like tito ortiz & a few others-as if he hates em with a passion! with jackson he's hella too respectful, backing up, & cautious. guess jackson just has chucks # fo sho! henderson has a chance if he can take down anderson silva-which he may have a very hard time doin-especially if he gets them knees to the face! can't really do much against anderson's thai clinch. & for serra against gsp-serra don't have a chance! unless he gets another lucky punch in there with them 10-1 odds lol! look how hughes got handled by gsp. & i think hughes would whoop serra's ass if they ever get to fight anytime soon! just my .02 [patriot]

rampage does have chucks number. silva is good but his clinch isn't going to help him with henderson's world class wrestling. he is sick at 205 but at 185 he is twice as good. and if rampage can't knock him out i know silva can't. now when serra knocks out gsp again is it luck? or just skill? [Razz]
and lets hope hughes isn't done we got to have him vs serra. to much bad blood it has to go down. one thing i know is 2008 looks to be a badass year for mma fights.

I give Silva more props than Chuck... Silva droped Chuck and let him get back up, Chuck ends the fight running away and then goes for a takedown in the last seconds. I honestly lost some respect for Chuck when he took him down at the end in a stand up fight

Posted by 89point. (Member # 6078) on :

fear... it was in chucks eyes as rampage knocked him the fuck out.. silva and henderson will be good though but i think silva will win it.

Posted by Cm4hawks (Member # 5231) on :

Points are Points When Chuck took Silva down in the end is no different then when in Foot ball they down the ball to run out the clock. A win is a win. Serra got luck against GSP BUT he won and is the champ. You have to think these guys do this for a living. So any points count. And as far as Silva knocking Chuck down???? He slipped thats even how they announced it.

Posted by 89TRUNK (Member # 2506) on :

He got stuck in the chin then fell, i thought it was a flash knockdown. True, points are points but i just thought it was week that he was avoiding him and the end then ended it with a takedown. Good fight even with the takedown.

GSP looked like he was from another world, he might not be beat for years to come.

Silva v. Henderson is going to be insane

Posted by Cm4hawks (Member # 5231) on :

True i can not wait unil Henderson and silva.

Posted by warhorse58gt (Member # 7702) on :

i look at it like this, these guys train for 3 months for a fight. so when they knock someone out it isn't luck. it hard work and training. with this lvl of fighters any one can be a victim.... just my .02

now if this was in pride japan's old rules, wanderlei would've ran right after him with some soccer kicks & heel stomps to his face fo sho! again what i'm saying-ufc rules suck! especially for wanderlei & shogun!

we all know you like sera. But when you go in swinging and kicking. You always hope you hit them before they hit you. Yes they Train for months But you do not know exactly what going to happen. It usally comes down to who gets the lucky punch or who did not put thier gaurd up fast enough. If GSP stood the and let Serra hit him he would knock GSP out. AND If Serra stood the and let GSP hit him he would knock Serra out.I am not saying Serra is not good Because he is :::Thats why he has the belt::: But he got that lucky hit on GSP. Next time i look for GSP to take him to the ground and try to winn from the ground. You have to admit he was A++++++ the ground against Hughes. Hughes did nott have a chance. It is all being in the right place at the right time.

yeah he was. i'm not taken anything from gsp he look sick. and i can't wait for him to fight serra. that way we know if it was luck or if he just has gsp number. again mad props to gsp. it isn't easy to make a hall of famer look like it was his first day. [worship]

I'm confident in saying that Hughes would own Serra if they fought. We all know what happened the last two times that GSP has fought Hughes. So how is it that Serra would whip GSP's ass?

As for UFC rules......yes they do suck. Yes fighters are very limited with what they can and cannot do. I would really like to see some Pride rules carried over into the UFC such as:

Kneeing a downed opponent & head stomps.

Scccer kicks to a downed opponent's head a little much for UFC rules though.

I think that it would vastly help fighters who dominated in Pride transition easier into the UFC as well as help in aiding fighters already fighting within the UFC. It's effected Cro-Cop, Rua and Silva (three of Pride's best fighters). It would have been interesting to see if Fedor had come to the Octagon how he would have handled the transition.

being a couch blackbelt (thanks warhorse58gt) I won't talk too much in this post, but I can't wait until Serras next fight so we can all see that he can't even measure up. I was dumbfounded when he got the belt with what I consider a lucky punch. I dont see that happening again. You usually only win the lottery once.

are you kidding me?
no way should head stomps, soccer kicks or knees to the head of a downed fighter ever be legal!!
why not let them use baseball bats to the head?
thats trying to get some one brain damage.

ok every one knows i fly the serra flag.
but he got the belt for a reason. and that was he knocked out gsp. so to say how can he whoop gsp ass. is lame. he already did. is it fluke? we will see.

now i want him to fight matt hughes.
i want to see him smash hughes. now will he/ can he? i belive so, you guys don't. but thats why they fight the fights. so we know who will win.
every one said sho gun was going to wreck forrest, but didn't happen. or chuck/keith.
again it is going to be a good year for ufc/mma fights. there are so many good fights that i hope/pray will happen.

$50 that Hughes would handle Serra.

$100 that GSP would handle Serra.
