Old news.

Kimbo's slated to fight David "Tank" Abbott in IFL within the next two months.

If Kimbo manages to take out Tank (which he probably will) I'd like to see him face Brock Lesnar honestly. The reason I say that is because both are relativly new to the MMA arena, both are trying to make a name for themselves and both are within the HW division. I'd put $100 on Lesnar straight up beating Kimbo up.

Lesnar is training with Sean Sherk's training camp and Kimbo is training under Bas Rutten. To me the Rutten camp is where I would put money on but in MMA what sounds good on paper isn't always good in person (Gonzaga VS Cro-Cop).

mma has some good fights if you don't mind watching two big sweaty men hugging interminably.

I've been watching some real standup fighting on vs, chuck norris' World Combat League.

they throw more techniques in one 3 minute round than you'll see in a whole UFC title fight!

check it out!

world combat is gay, it looks like a van damme movie, mma is the real shit, they can strike submit and break your shit off, on that note i hope you were just joking.

hahaah that hit was fantastic

world combat league is fun to watch if you are bored out of your mind and you cant find any good internet porn

lol.
gay?

hugging, rolling on the mat holding onto some sweaty monster is a bit gayer than kicking people in the head. but if you want to watch big sweaty men hug each other, that's your deal.

i like ufc and all the rest of the mma organizations, but i enjoy watching the girls kick the crap out of each other more, i like seeing all the techniques and combinations for use in sparring. the team aspect of it is also a lot different from anything else i've seen, so every point in a fight is important.

there's a LOT to be said for standup fighting, nonstop punching and kicking that would leave the likes of tank abbott gasping for air without all that downtime rolling.

rofl.
no. i'm not kidding, WCL is the real deal.
ymmv.

you cannot assert that anything is the real deal because of your preference for a certain fighting style. It might be what you prefer, but far from "The" best display of technique.

You obviously don't have much knowledge of jiu jitsu or grappling. There are some fights where punches are rarely thrown and are more exciting thrilling, more technically demanding than an all out brawl.

Well put!
In MMA period the key is to expect the unexpected. Cro-Cop was expecting take down after take down and probably never thought about Gonzaga throwing a high right kick.

Same goes for Koscheck. Josh probably thought that GSP isn't going to try to out wrestle me but out strike me. Well we all know what happened there too.

That is why I really dig Gaidojutsu. It incorporates Judo, kickboxing and BJJ/grappling all into one form.

i did kenjudo at Sierra College under Sensei Larry Wight (kenpo, jujitsu, eskrima) for a little over a year, achieving the rank of go kyu and a couple months here and there at various dojos studying this or that...

that's beside the point.

i'm studying karate and kenpo at the moment and this is gonna help me in my fights more than watching grappling, which i do. the no holding rule keeps things moving in wcl and leaves more time for striking.

i see it this way. if i can learn some techniques that my opponents don't have, i'm that much ahead of the game.

[burnout]

[edit] no porn??? that's what the internet is for... lol. no porn... [Confused]

Yeah good luck with that.

Kenpo "Kempo" and Karate are more of a body and mind form of martial art. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is going to teach you how to defend yourself from a guarded position, how to damage an opponent from an open or closed guarded position and how to take an opponent down properly.

You seriously need to take a look a MMA as a whole and what fighters are training in most. For most it's 50% grappling and 50% either Muay Thai or kickboxing along with traditional boxing. If you walk into a cage/ring with a one dimensional outlook/background you'll have your ass in a sling in under a minute I promise you.

you won't find me in any cages. fuck, i'm old.

there's a bjj dojo up here in gv, i'll be starting lessons there as well. i made the mistake of asking my sensei's permission. like i mentioned, i've done quite a bit of jujitsu, you don't see much tomoe nage or tai othoshi in mma though. it's ground and pound. i've been watching ufc since the single digit days. when watching ufc or any mma match though, the standup fights are the best. that's where you get the insane knockouts. not when they are humping each other on the mat or up in the fence...

i like to see the 1000yd stares, the eating of the canvas... falling like a brick. bonjanski's flying knee in the first second or two of the match.. i mean. that's the real deal.

karate guys are usually dead meat grappling, they try to not get into that position. i like grappling, personally. i just dont' need to watch it as much as the striking.

In the greater Sac area there are four high level training centers.

Cassio Werneck (Sac)
LA Boxing (Carlos Garcia/Sponsored by Chuck Liddell in South Sac)
Ultimate Fitness (Urijah Faber) Downtown Sac
Ultimate Training Center (Scott Smith & James Irvin) (Roseville)

All of them are excellent well rounded training centers.

werneck's has a grass valley location.
(530)913-0337 is the number if you're interested.
it's only one number off my cell number is how i remember.

http://www.bullshido.net is an excellent resource, btw.

it pays to know what you're training in and why. for me, i am very proficient in grappling, but my standup was for shit. it's getting better, but i like seeing different combinations and stuff i've never imagined (windmill kicks???) on wcl.

i've practiced kung fu, karate, and kuksool won for many years. Most of what you learn there is useless on a real fight. Useless here (U.S.) anyway since you can't really strike first without getting in trouble. However, i've been doing wrestling/jiu jitsu for a few months and OMG, i regret no having started sooner.
i believe that on a streetfight whoever knows how to take a punch and gets the fight to the floor knowing what to do will win. Even if you are on the bottom position.
I love being on the botton. Nothing like getting new guys, letting them take you down, posture up thinking they'll start swinging just to be confronted with a triangle choke, kimora or sweap to a full mount when they least expect it.

if you think all they are doing is hugging you really have no clue of mma.

HAHA yeah.
I rather take my chances against any martial artist than against a kick boxer or jiu jitsu practitioner.

Between pretty much any two strikers there is always a "puncher's chance". However age is going to play a huge role in the Tank VS Kimbo fight. David "Tank" Abbott is 42 while Kimbo aka Kevin Ferguson is 31. Tank's never been one that was in seriously good cardiovascular health where Kimbo has decent cardio.

wrs thats basically what i was trying to get at saying he had a punchers chance.

You gotta admit Tank aint no punk. He must of called this fool out to the parking lot!! LOL.

I see Kimbo is getting more rounded and could actually do some damage in MMA if he trains right.
