Silva did not deserve the title shot, the only other fight he had before was with leban, whom he destroyed. Silva was prob ranked from 5-10 in the world, there were others more deserving of the shot, such as Mike Swick, Jeremy Horn, or Evan Tanner. But that Muay Thai clinch was brutal.

as far as who has worked the ladder in the ufc middleweight, silva did not deserve a title shot after one fight. however, as far as world rankings are concerned silva compared to any fighter in the ufc middle weight division rightfully deserved that fight and we just saw how superior a striker he is. there is talk that ufc is trying to pickup lindland who is a free agent right now. u gotta put a fighter with a good wrestling background to put silva on his back and gnp him. it would be nice to bring in hendo from pride to fight silva but that will never happen.

only once in the ufc...but that also just shows how shallow the ufc's middleweight division is. honestly, if the ufc didnt bring anyone else, it was just a matter of time before silva would get that belt. if only franklin didnt try to go head to head striking with silva, he probably wouldve had a good chance of putting up a good fight or even winning. that muy thai clinch from silva was just plain nasty.
heavyweight division is worse...ther are only like what...3 good fighters in the division..haha actually only the lightweight and welterweight divisions are strong compare to other fight organizations.

On one hand he did and on the other hand he didnt deserve it. He should have fought atleast 2 more times, but there was no one else to challenge franklin. Rich completely annihilated Loiseau(who was one of the most feared fighters at that point) and came away unharmed except the broken hand on which he continued to fight with. Silva has fought in Pride and other promotions, we all know any good pride fighter can take out a UFC fighter with ease.

i guess ufc was thinking that if they let silva fight the middleweigth "contenders" in the ufc, he probably wouldve steamrolled through them and eventually would win the belt leaving no one else to challenge silva. at least this way, they can leave silva as champ and have him beat up on a few by displaying some nice knock-outs that everyone loves..haha im not a ufc basher either but its well known that only the lightweight and welterweight division are strong in the ufc, save a few tough fighters in the rest(i.e liddell, ortiz, sylvia, vera, franklin). lots of the other guys are fresh talent that are still trying to prove themselves so who knows how things will pan out in the futre..one thing for sure is that the ufc is growing and is already a force in mma.

Everyone keeps saying Silva did not deserve a title shot. Well the way I look at it since Franklin got K.Oed by Silva he did'nt really deserve to hold the title! [Wink]

M.M.A. Is getting pretty big and to have fighters from different M.M.A. leages start at the bottom in the UFC is stupid. Remember all the different titles in boxing? Silva had good fights outside the UFC and even beat carlos newton rather easily.
