sure when all he has to work with is intentional walks and being hit by pitches.he has been on base on his on behalf a total of 3 times, the rest are all INTENTIONAL HITS/PITCHES.So i guess anyones stats would suck giving what hes working with

I would have to disagree that Bonds is the worst.

He has been getting good contact the first couple weeks of the season with several balls getting to the warning track. Watching his swing, he's been opening up a bit too early especially on the outside pitches. If he can keep his front shoulder in, you'll see a significant difference. I went to a game last week and he hit 2 to the wall in center and right-center field.....and one down the line off the wall. I firmly believe it's all in his mechanics right now. He'll adjust himself without a doubt.

Keep in mind...3 more hits and Bonds would be batting over .300 for the season. It's way too early to make any long term judgements.

He was the man before he supposedly juiced it after the 98 season and he was the man afterwards. Before 1999, he had over 400 homers, roughtly 450 stolen bases, 3 MVP's, 8 Gold Gloves, and 8 all star appearances. The juice is not what made him the greatest baseball player of all time. He is the most gifted player the game has ever seen.

If indeed he did juice himself up, it's not a secret that he wasn't the only one doing it. People pick on him cuz it's that easy to do it to someone who is so great at what he does. Plus he isn't the most approachable person. But, who cares???? I pay to watch him hit a ball, not be my best friend.

SUPPOSEDLY being the key here...He's yet to test positive for juice, the cream he was using was not illegal at the time and if the (league, Gov officials, etc) are so hot on the topic, why haven't they caught him yet?

You have to be a great player for it to be effective anyways. If you can't hit, steroids aren't gonna help you...look at Bobby Estallea (sp) He tested positive and sucked big time...same with Armando Rios.

he cant be the worst player stats wise, he just seems that way because everyone expects so much from him. i think he will finish this season and be done. he will probably end around 30-35 HR's, and .280-.290 BA. just that facts hes too good of a player not to start hitting he still has a good eye.

This shows just how great he is. He does not play for basically a whole year and then when he comes back with one arm, the powers of Major League Basball are still scared to pitch to him, but what do they know, YOU say he can't hit anymore.

Real Giants fans don't give a crap if Barry juiced.

Real baseball fans know roids can't make you a better hitter. The extra power may have gotten him 25-50 more hr (If its ever proved he did use!) over his career. So what is everyones friggin problem. He is still the best overall player ever, bar none.

No I'm not biased, I'm right.

It'll be very interesting to see how baseball looks at Barry Bonds 30 years from now...when time has passed and all we have are stories to tell.

Some of the best conversations I've ever had are with people who were fortunate enough to see the likes of Jackie Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays play. One day I'll be the one telling some kid about how great Barry Bonds was and to light up his eyes. I just hope people out there don't discredit his legendary status [Mad]

First Off Barry Bonds is nowhere close to being the "best Baseball player of all times" I would take a Ted Williams or Micky Mantel of Barry anyday!!!!

You guys are right where Roids don't make you a better hitter, he does have a great eye or he would have never been a Pro. But you say he is still hitting the ball good and taking it to the warning track. Well Shit just about any major league guy can take it to the warning track. What the Roids do is take it over the track by just plain Muscleing the ball over the fence. I think the Bonds days as being a premier Sluger is over.

One More thing, I never said he sucks or is the worst. He needs to work on Mechanics now to get the ball into McCovy Cove again.

No, but he should (and probably does) already know that since the 1997 season, Bonds has always started off the year slowly. Bonds has said many times that his hitting doesn't come into full swing (no pun intended) until Mid-May or as late as June.

That reason, and that reason alone, is why people assume Bonds opted to take steroids. The Chronicle interviewed members of the Balco group and they said "Bonds was concerned about his hitting at an older age". Hence, he began using steroids. But that is all hearsay, who knows if it is true. Makes sense, but hasn't been proven.

Again, Bonds has started EVERY season slowly since 1997... and it gets worse every year because of his AGE. The man is 41 years old!!! Give him a break. He has had 3 knee surguries and now has bone chips in his elbow. The dude is older than 99% of the players right now and he is still THE most feared hitter in the game. ALbert Pujols is bombing on the NL right now... But that is because pitchers PITCH TO HIM ALL DAY! The fuckin dude hit 3 in ONE GAME THE OTHER DAY!!! Pitch that way to Bonds, and he WILL get his swing back, he WILL hit the ball, and it WILL go over the fence enough times to break Ruths record. An interesting side note: 2 years ago, ESPN recorded Bonds' swing with a high-speed camera. Upon further analysis, it was noted that his bat-speed is far quicker than any other player in the leauge and his hand eye coordination is impeccable. By doing simple math (according to ESPN) Bonds unique talents allow him a few tenths MORE time to see the ball and therefore, hit that son of a bitch so much better. The man is great. Period.

Bonds is in the top 5 ALL TIME GREATEST players to ever play the game of Baseball.

Matt,

6 for 28 means he got 6 hits and got out 22 times. Walks do not count as official at bats. He has something like 42 plate apperances with 11 or 12 walks and got hit by a pitch on top of those 28 hits/outs...

Barry Bonds is the greatest 5 tool player the game has ever seen. A 500+ homerun hitter with 500+ stolen bases and 8 gold gloves with a career .300 average? How could you not take someone like that? I would also like to throw in that the only 100+ strikeout season he ever had was his rookie season. He has phenomenal pitch awareness.

Ted Williams was a great, great hitter...but he didn't carry the 5 tools that Barry did.

Mickey Mantle was a great hitter too and a fine defensive player. Did he put it all together into a 5 tool player??? No.

The closest player that came to the potential of Barry Bonds is Willie Mays.

You guys should really sit down and appreciate every Barry has done. It really is amazing.

on base percentage over 500? and when he does get pitched to every thing is low and outside. its hard to pick out a strike when all you see is balls.

Thank you, someone else knows a little something about the COMPLETE game of baseball also. Can't wait to hear the reply on how on base percentage does not mean anything either.

Keep laughing, you are proving just how much knowledge you don't have of the game. But then again, I am sure you know more than all the teams in MLB. You should contact them and tell them they are doing it all wrong. Just pitch to him like any other player and stop the intentional walks. Remind them he is off the juice and can't go deep anymore. He can only hit like he did when he was clean and played for the Pirates! [Eek!] Dumbass

The truth.... He was great on the JUICE, produced runs/home-runs but lacked the "defense" part of the game.... After 97 you could tell something happened, it's more than obvious to any spectator with a "real" sense of the game that his game focused (decided to pump it up, to compete with the Sosa's and McGwire's) on producing runs rather than being a more complete athlete (his natural abilities) 40/40, only the real fans will get this, you guys reemember when he was close/accomplished theese feats, that was insane back in the days.... having such a complete/atlhetic player who would produce more than 40hr's and 40stolen bases a year was crazy (still is, when done "naturally").... You can tell the juice deteriorated his career, multiple knee injuries, and less flexibility.... I like the athlete, but despise the "person" (a real dick) no matter what no one say's, Barry accomplished many feats thought to be impossible by the common man. He will always be remembered as one of the All-Time Greats.... TTT [patriot]

Hmmm...he just hit a pinch hit 2 run bomb in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game...I think that makes three in his last 4 or 5 games. WHAT A BUM.

Come on man...he never took roids. He said the most he ever took was protein shakes. That means that I have taken more perfomance enhancing drugs than he.

I remember back when Barry would end games for the giants. He did that today and yesterday. I just remember him ending them in other ways [Frown]

I told you it was only a matter of time before he got it down. His swing has been there the whole year...he was just flying open to quick. When he starts hitting shots over the wall in left, that means he's staying in.

His 3 homers this year have all been to left center to left field. He's seeing the ball good and he's going with it. I can't wait to see him Friday night!!! I'll be in the bleachers ready for a homerun ball [patriot]

I'm mad at myself. I jumped down to the front row before the game started and was yelling for Barry and turned around to point at my back cuz I was wearing his jersey. He was holding up a #1 for me and I was trying to take a pic, but I had the camera off and was fumbling around......and I missed it! [Mad]

I did see the rundown. He looked like an old man caught between two young guys [Smile]

I don't knock Barry's hitting. I only knock his age. He looks bad at there right now. Hell, I stop what I am doing to watch every at bat he has. However, when he is in the field, I whince everytime I see him have to move. I also hate that he doesn't have enough in him to play a day game after a night game.

Honestly, I wish to see him get the record with the Giants, but he is better suited in the AL if he wants the record.

From my perspective, he out-sprinted the 3rd baseman who was set to tag him after a couple of exchanges had already occured. Barry hasn't lost all his speed, IMHO.

In a dead sprint to 1st Barry would probably beat Matheny, Niekro, most of the pitchers... [Razz] that Shrek backup catcher guy [Cool] , probably a couple others.

...with like 658 walks...FN sorry a$$ league won't pitch to him. He's swingin' at pitches he normally wouldn't 'cause he's tryin' to give the fans what they want. He'd have 10-15 homers by now if the pu$$y A$$ league/pitchers would show half of 1 nut and challenge him...legitimatley. You can't tell me Barry's SUCH a threat that they won't pitch to him since he's only batting .240/5 homers...WHY THE F ARE THEY STILL PITCHIN' TO ALBERT PULJOS who's got 85 homers already and bating like .500 [Mad]

I'm not a Giants' fan, but this is a F'd up. I can't wait for Barry to beat FN Fat A$$ Babe Ruth's record...who NEVER,EVER played against any REAL competition mind you. Ok, I'm done [patriot]

I don't think he is tryingto give the fans what they want. I think he is swinging at crappy pitches cause thats all he gets. All he is trying to do is get some hits get on base and possibly score. I don't think he really cares about the home run record or passing Ruth. The guy wants a Ring!!!

As for Babe Ruth being fat. yeah cuase its nothing like it is today. Pitching was nothing like what it is today. but yet the batters are way stronger today. So I don't think you can totally compare the two. Plus how many years did Ruth Pitch and never swung a bat??? How many more HR's would he have? The Other Day ESPN was showing Hanks, Babes and Barrys up bats to Hr's. Babe Ruth had like Half as many Up-bats of Bonds and like 1/3 as many as Hank Aarons. I give credit to Bonds cause he has less then Hank Aarons cause he played until he was in Diapers.

I think he meant that he will pass Babe Ruth's Recorded HR count. Not so much "The Record".

i still don't understand why teams aren't pitching to him more. they're scared of him like it was two years ago. sure he's still a big threat to go long, but he's easily lost a couple steps and his swing isn't as great as it used to be. i mean watch him swing today compared to two years ago and that left knee of his just buckles driving him off balanced and all sorts (hence why a lot of flyouts).

The LEAGUE, the FN LEAGUE won't pitch to him 'cause they don't want him to have the record. He won't get Aaron's record now for sure. Even if he still could hit like before, the MAN would never allow it. Get used to all the walks, they're here to stay. It's a shame that we're watching one of the greatest hitters(if not THE greatest)of our time get walked time after time while approaching arguably the most highly regarded sports record...in any sport. I can't wait to see Barry's name up there at(at least number 2), without an FN * also. LOL [Big Grin]

edit: 98slowhoe, you could be right, for sure [patriot] . Bottom line is that he's swingin' a sheeeyat that he normally wouldn't. If he didn't swing at those "bad" pitches, he'd walk 4 times a game instead of only twice. He probably gets 1-2 pitches per AB that even resemble strikes [Roll Eyes]
